I finally, after many months, have an official website, and a projects page! There's still work that needs done (for example I want to clean up the pages for my blog posts, make the home page actually have more info etc.), but it works now! https://quinbox.xyz/
A huge thank you goes out to my good friend Sam Tupy for messing with Cobalt for an actual website enough to inspire me to mess with it for my own site, not just the blog.

@TheQuinbox it's very 1 column and tiny for sighties who visit eh?

I am about to cancel my Dropbox subscription, which involves clearing out a ton of huge shared folders from my Dropbox. So I'm going to put this out into the world:
If you are the owner of a shared Dropbox folder, I would really urge you to consider sharing it elsewhere, either in addition to or instead of Dropbox. OneDrive, Google Drive, and other storage services allow free users to join a shared folder without filling up their storage. Dropbox does not, because they want people to pay. So many people are paying for Dropbox just for the privilege of having a copy of someone else's folder on their own account. The last straw for me was when I noticed that my family subscription--which costs me over $200/year--was full because I shared a large folder with someone else in the family. Dropbox doesn't store the folder twice, but they count it toward my family storage twice. Meanwhile, every time I log into the website I get a popup telling me I should upgrade to Dropbox for business, for even more money. So I'm pretty much done here. You can try this at home.

Any good android apps these for walking around that do breadcrumbing, route saving or can drop points of interest for while walking?

Today I found out that Audible credits not only expire after a year; they expire without any email notification. Audible is happy to send me countless emails about listens on sale and other things that will keep me engaged, but if I hadn't logged in and noticed a notification at the top of my homepage, I would have lost a ton of credits with no notification whatsoever. I get really good deals from Audible and am essentially paying between $5 and $8.50 per-book, but this is disgusting.

@simon @jscholes they owe me back a half dozen if that's the case LOL

Returning Celeste glasses. Though conceptually they have promise, everything is being done via the cloud, and the latancy is just unuseable. There is also no support for deaf/blind usrs including no braille support int he app. I wish them the best, but an unfinished beta product is not for me.

JStark,
@JStark@mastodon.social avatar

@liamerven how does it compare to the envision glasses or the orcam?

I forgot that Explorer++ was still a thing. It looks like it's been updated recently too. Sometimes I hate the default File Explorer that comes with Windows.

In case you haven't tried it; the accessible youtube player app is fantastic and quick to use for a screen reader user on windows - my only complaint is an inability to play the video at 2x or faster than normal speeds

Do you know a virtual sound card software for windows ? - my folk; I'm hoping the audio knowledgable folk can help me find a piece of software I used to know of but can't remember that allowed you to intercept audio and split or redirect audio in or audio out from a windows PC

So, I want to ask a question. Has anyone ever had a crush on a character before? I have and it happened when I was 9/10 years old. Now, I'm , and I thought because I simply can not se that she was human when in fact, she was a talking Bee. I would not miss episodes of the cartoon show because I liked hearing her voice and always hoped things would go well for her during the show. I would have dreams where it was us dream flying while holding hands and having adventures for fun. Good times, I just hope I'm not weird for it, and have never admited this to anyone. The cartoon show was from and it was called the mighty bee. She was the main character.

You’d think that in 2024 you’d have an easier way to enter a true minus sign glyph (−) instead of a dash (-) in Linux.

And this isn’t just one for typography geeks either, it’s an accessibility issue.

Imagine you have a minus button in a web form. A screenreader would read it as a dash button unless you used the proper character. (The workaround, of course, is to use aria-label.)

JStark,
@JStark@mastodon.social avatar

@aral I'm not stupid just cuz I use a screen reader dude

I wish I could adequately express the ways JS engineers would benefit from attending a few accessibility conferences.

JStark,

@a11yMel I tried to do a hackathon with a bunch of local developers and their total lack of knowledge of HTML elements or accessibility was so low we spent most of the weekend doing learning rather than the hackathon

Shout out to the polite package thief that had the decency to open the boxes at my mailbox first, to see if I ordered anything worth stealing. 👍🏿

That's just like, manners and stuff. Mighty neighbourly of ya!

Although, I'm a little insulted that you determined the answer to be "No, nothing worth stealing. This man orders trash." Not gon' lie, that stings a little.

@mekkaokereke the real question is what did you order?
