"A day after we learned the Hunter Biden nonsense was a Russian intelligence op, Elon Musk is on Twitter...
...advancing what he now knows is Kremlin propaganda. (I tried to publish the image Musk just published—but Instagram immediately removed it as exploitative content aimed at Hunter Biden; I totally understand the removal and it emphasizes how vile what Musk posted was.)
At what point does the federal government cut ties with this man who is obviously not at all loyal to the United States?

It’s not Treason for Elon Musk to be knowingly providing aid and comfort to the enemies of the United States, because America isn’t at war with Russia. But Musk does know the Kremlin is currently in a with America and is currently trying to steal the 2024 "

Musk is knowingly helping Russia conduct acts of war against the US.

He has complete personal control of 53% of the world's satellites. Musk personally sabotaged at least one critical Ukrainian military mission.

Musk also has complete personal control of a social media platform that has 528 million monthly active users, but no safety rules.

And Musk is a flighty, narcissistic, sociopathic imbecile with no regard for human life. It's hard to express how much danger we're all in.

It won't be long before , AKA , AKA Speaker , is ousted.

Not all R MOC are on the same page as Johnson:

"I'm not at church," an anonymous attendee said in response to Johnson leading the group in prayers & Christian sermonizing. Acc to 2 ppl in the room the sermon wasn't well received, with one Rep calling the session "horrible." He was reportedly railing against govt, saying that w/o God in their lives ppl will turn to the govt for gui-.

@KimPerales

That's how I read it too: Someone inside of GOP leadership is threatening . But I don't think it's because of his "sermon." The sermon wasn't a surprise. Every Republican already knew he's a revolutionary Christian nationalist, explicitly dedicated to ending our democracy. And they know he works for Putin too -- the whole party does.

I'm just not sure who's mad at him, or why.

Almost everyone who gets old dies. In a gross way, that brief sentence could sum up a Dutch/Danish/British study called “Use of sugar in coffee and tea and long-term risk of mortality in older adult Danish men: 32 years of follow-up from a prospective cohort study“…. https://www.newscientist.com/article/mg26134794-000-just-add-sugar-for-an-almost-death-defying-study-on-tea-and-coffee/

barney,

@MarcAbrahams

To be fair... it was a large longitudinal study that used a Cox proportional hazards regression models to assess the effects of adding sugar to coffee or tea on the primary outcome of all-cause mortality, and on the secondary outcomes of cardiovascular mortality, cancer mortality, and incident diabetes mellitus.

Significantly more sugar-adders died. The model found an elevated hazard ratio for sugar-adders that almost but didn't quite reach statistical significance (p=0.08).

Yes.

barney,

@mastodonmigration @protecttruth

Yes, in 2016 the New York TImes knowingly copied and pasted every day's "but her emails" headline from the Kremlin propaganda feed. And they published "FBI sees no link to Russia," when they KNEW that was a lie. And they're doing the same, only worse, in 2024.

But how the hell is this the Democrats' fault? How are the Dems supposed to "make this a story"?

barney,
@barney@mas.to avatar

@rameshgupta

Garland's appointment wasn't "the Democrats' fault." I think it turned out to be a mistake, but it was Biden's mistake alone. And, having made that mistake, replacing Garland only would have made it worse.

The outrageous malfeasance of the US press has nothing to do with DOJ. The press didn't commit crimes for which DOJ should have prosecuted them.

This exemplifies why it's important that Merrick Garland refuses to prosecute or even investigate any elected Republican, no matter what crimes they have committed. If there is no penalty for helping a foreign enemy commit acts of war against the US (and there isn't), then the treason will continue.

In Garland's defense, I'm not sure he could have done much better. He's forced to rely heavily on the FBI, which is rotten with insurrectionists from top to bottom.

As I suspected, don't actually exist.

There's a website that sells three kinds of Trump sneakers, Trump cologne, and Trump perfume. But none of those items currently exists.

You have to pay in full, in advance, and no refunds will be offered. The "expected shipping dates" for the items start in June. The site says that the photos on the site are only approximations, and the actual items that you receive may differ.

barney,
@barney@mas.to avatar

Trump is not selling the sneakers himself. He licensed his name to "45Footwear LLC," an entity that was newly incorporated in Wyoming, on January 31.

If you pre-order the sneakers, you'll be sending your money to that LLC. There's no way to know who's actually getting your money. The only contact listed for the LLC is its lawyer, Cloud Peak Law. Which is actually just one lawyer, Mark Pierce, and a guy named Andrew Pierce who works for him.

barney,
@barney@mas.to avatar

Wyoming is a haven for scams like "Trump Sneakers," because, as WaPo reported in 2022, "In Wyoming, the owners of LLCs are not required to identify themselves... Companies established in the state have been listed in lawsuits alleging medical fraud in Russia, tax dodging in Hungary and bank theft in Zimbabwe..."

Trump Sneakers may never exist. And the money that's "buying" them could be going anywhere in the world.

"Clinton’s relationship with Citizens United dates to her husband’s first campaign for president."

How many of those who earnestly believe(d) are the same but really blame know anything about ? Look where we could have been now.

http://archive.today/6PxQp

https://endcitizensunited.org/

• Push for legislation to close "loopholes" that enable people to secretly spend millions on politics. The legislation would require outside groups that engage in significant political spending to disclose major donors and would prevent groups from moving money around to hide its original source, according to a policy outline from the campaign. Congressional approval, particularly if Republicans maintain control of both chambers, would probably be a tough sell. • Require federal government contractors to disclose all political spending. Much of that information is already disclosed to regulators but the administration could go farther by including a disclosure requirement for spending on advocacy that is not otherwise public, such as to groups like the Sierra Club and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. She says she would make this move "if Congress fails to act on common sense campaign finance reform." • Urge the Securities and Exchange Commission to require publicly traded companies to disclose all political spending to their shareholders. Some companies have already begun doing this.
• If Supreme Court vacancies arise, nominate justices who "value the right to vote over the right of billionaires to buy elections." Clinton is seeking to tether the influence the wealthy have in politics to what Democrats see as an erosion of voting rights, condemning both the Citizens United decision on campaign finance and the Supreme Court's 2013 ruling that Shelby County, Ala., no longer needs federal approval before changing voting rights laws, upending the 1965 Voting Rights Act. • Support a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United. This is a largely symbolic move because constitutional amendments are so rare. If elected, Clinton would become the second president to endorse amending the Constitution to roll back Citizens United. President Barack Obama said he would "love" to see that. Some Republican presidential hopefuls, including South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham, also have backed revisiting Citizens United through a constitutional process.
• Use taxpayer dollars to match money raised by presidential and congressional candidates. To access that public financing, candidates would have to agree to a "substantially" lower limit on how much money they can receive from any one donor. The current limit is $2,700 per donor per election, effectively $5,400 if a candidate competes in both a primary and a general election. Candidates also would have to demonstrate "sufficient public support for a viable campaign" to get the public money. This story was originally published September 8, 2015, 12:13 AM.

All we had to do was show up, one time, in 2016, and vote. We'd now have the first majority Dem-appointed SCOTUS since 1969. By now, Citizens United probably would have been overturned. Instead of Roe v. Wade.

But we, collectively, decided that we didn't care about Citizens United, or Roe v. Wade, or anything else, other than hurting one woman's feelings.

I don't think I had heard of Richard Mack. Maybe I should read Neiwert's books.

At the time, I was stunned when I learned that Steve Bannon, a leading Nazi-idolizing white supremacist, had partnered with The New York Times to write a whole book smearing Hillary Clinton in preparation for her presidential run. I was also stunned to learn that the book was being promoted by The Nation, which I thought was a liberal magazine.

In retrospect, none of this should have been surprising.

It’s brutally funny how much of Twitter is now made up of people who go out of their way to openly mock Musk and how that triggers him to do stupider and stupider things to make it appear like he’s respected.

A very funny parody account “Liam Nissan” blew open that Musk was using a burner account named Adrian Dittman to talk up Musk and Tesla and now the hunt is on to find and mock more of his alts.

barney,

The thing is, every time someone logs into Twitter to mock Musk, they are making money for him. They also cause other people to log in, so they can enjoy the mocking. And those people make even more money for Musk.

Both groups of people are also making money for the Nazis who Musk pays to tweet. And, together, they create more and more impact for the fascists whose tweets Musk promotes. So they're helping to empower white supremacy and destroy democracy around the world.

What Rep. Turner of the GOP may not know is that when you tell your enemy that you know about their super secret project, they can then go look for who told you. See, super secret stuff is super secret for a reason. My question for Mr. Turner and the whole GOP in Congress is — was that knowledge classified, did he leak it, and is that a crime? He may have compromised sources by disclosing this.

barney,
@barney@mas.to avatar

@FrankFrank

Exactly. Rep. Turner demanded that the US make all of its classified intelligence about the Russian threat public, before he even knew what the intelligence was.

He did that because the Republican Party is working for Russia. And, obviously, Russia doesn't want the US government to be able to keep secrets about Russia.

I never would have dreamed that a foreign enemy would take over the US government, and we'd all just sort of pretend it's not happening.

Citizens United was certainly an invitation for foreign enemies to buy their way into our government. However, I don't think there was ever a time, before 2016, when our entire national security apparatus just shut down and allowed a foreign enemy to attack us. Obviously our government was never actually conquered, until 2016.

barney,

@ppatel

There's no possibility of the ERA being ratified now.

Two-thirds of both houses of Congress would have to approve it. The Republicans control more than a third of the Senate. They wouldn't even allow a vote in the House.

Even if Congress approved it, three quarters of state legislatures would have to approve it. That's 38 states. I think there are only 16 states with Democrat-controlled legislatures.

If we care about women's rights, we'll have to start voting.
