Guys, I have a revolutionary new idea on how to solve traffic and make travel more accessible

First, we take multiple cars and have them drive behind one another

Next, to make them faster, we build a special lane for them so they aren’t slowed by other traffic

Then, to save on fuel, we have them drive on low-friction metal tracks. As a bonus, they can now go 3x faster

And finally, to make it even cheaper, we introduce a model where you can rent a seat, so you don’t even need to pay for a car

@weston Unironically a great idea I might just do. As a bonus, I will upload it to GitHub with a bunch of emojis in the readme, and call it “Travel as a Service”

I remember that when I first played Fallout 3 when I was about 10, I was fascinated how you could have an entire map on your wrist. It felt like such a sci-fi thing.

And now…

@t_var_s I use it all the time on public transport. It even vibrates just before I’m supposed to get off, so I don’t have to look like a confused tourist 😂

Ever since I started using complete concurrency checking, I feel like I’ve been elevated to a higher plane of consciousness, getting insight into the intricacies of asynchronicity I never thought possible

davidbures,

@fpbhb It’s an Xcode setting where you get complete error and warning reporting for asynchronous swift code. Stuff like actor isolation and thread safety.

You can set it to “targeted” and “minimal”, where it will hide most of these errors.

What Apple thinks we want in the next iOS and macOS release: AI and better cameras

What we actually want in the next iOS and macOS release: Personal Hotspot to actually work

#apple #iOS #macOS

davidbures,
@davidbures@mstdn.social avatar

@DadeMurphy I’ve talked to more people for whom it doesn’t work than to those it does

To elaborate, it’s not about the hotspot not transmitting data when it finally connects properly; it’s about the hotspot connecting for a few seconds, then disconnecting again, or connecting, working for a minute, and then just refusing to transmit data (the Mac showing the WiFi symbol with an exclamation mark)

Often, I have to connect and reconnect five times until it works properly

@andypease That would be great. With eSIMs, the design doesn’t even have to be compromised much :/

The thing I find so compelling about watchOS development is the extreme constraints. It’s the polar opposite of macOS.

Playing around with TabView and it’s cool.

davidbures,
@davidbures@mstdn.social avatar

@mattiem My very first GUI app for Apple platforms was for watchOS. It’s nice not having to worry about complex stuff for your first project of the sort 😬

Recently, I started getting things to decrease my consumption of things in general, and plastics and propellants in particular.

I got a clothesbrush, shaving brush, solid shaving soap, high-quality clothes from natural fibers etc.

Today, my mom told me that she remembers how my great grandpa (who was a tailor) had the exact same equipment and clothes from the same materials.

History does repeat itself.

What helped me the most to write good async functions in Swift is imagining @mattiem and @donnywals looking at me like this

Don’t mess with us SwiftUI on macOS fans, we literally don’t exist (according to Apple and 99,9% of tutorials)

@StrangeNoises Damn, you unleashed a torrent of memories by mentioning Swing. I remember writing Java apps in it for Linux back in the day, and then switching to JavaFX after everythig looked ugly as fuck. You have my deepest respect for still using it.

Speaking of SwiftUI, I use it because I've never used AppKit and I don't feel like learning it because it seems too verbose 😅 I don't like the whole storyboard concept. I prefer doing everything in code :)
