Trying to decide if I want to go down this rabbit hole

I’ve been making effort to reply or comment on social media rather than just hitting like. Even just a “wow” or “neat” is better than a like. Plus, aren’t we all posting to have community and conversations or is that just me ?

Sometimes you find gold with thrift stores. A VERY good copy of The First Book of KIM for… $3. Crazy.

A little Friday fun… continuing my quest to do 10PRINT on all the things. This morning I figured out a reasonable version for the HP-42S.

This is a fun game but you NEED the manual and accompanying stuff for it to be playable. What other games from pre 1993 do you like that are like this?

The best thing about remembering the time before cell phones: When you were really mad, you could SLAM the phone down to hang up. It was glorious.

I often have a PET demo or game playing in the background of video meetings. Today’s choice is a fun one. Happy Friday.

I was skeptical about these, but I have a fair number of devices that use 9v batteries. These rechargeables work great.

I don't use the ESP32 module on my Ultimate64 much. But I deserve some credit for my choice of DHCP address reservation.

I get so many questions about this thing on Zoom calls.

Time for my annual IQ test. Hopefully it doesn’t say “illegal quantity error” :)

It's day 12 with the Atari 800XL, and I'm wrapping my head around how far ahead it was in several areas. For example, graphics like this are relatively easy.

I heard that Canada is thinking of banning these. I only use mine to play asteroids. Silly Canada. 😇

I found what I think is the greatest computer book cover of all time. Please tell me I can find a physical copy of this somewhere.

@root42 but does it have spotlights in the distance?

In today's episode of "Stupid Races Between Old Computery Things," we got my ported N-Queens solver on an Atari 800XL stock BASIC vs. that same computer with Turbo BASIC XL. No modifications at all; the BASIC replacement on a cartridge is more than twice as fast. (this is 20x speed)

What’s the best way to get this stick-on heat sink and the adhesive off of this VIC-II?

Been day job busy the last couple days so I was working on an assembly project on an emulator in my free time. Took it to a real C64 and it didn’t work. Took out 3 other C64s before I realized a bug in my code. It worked on the emulator because it initializes RAM to zeros. On real hardware it initializes to whatever it initializes that day. Anyway, I’ve got C64s all over my office now and it’s hard not to be happy about that.

‪For those Turbo Macro Pro users “in the know”… I used .text instead of .null on a one line string and called $ab1e on it. Never found that terminating zero so i guess it just was gonna keep printing for all time :) ‬

mrdoornbos,
@mrdoornbos@mastodon.social avatar

@yth yeah, this was Vice. It's not a bug in Vice. My mistake was to assume the RAM state without explicitly setting it.

This is why I went back to buying physical books and movies. I can’t read this at the hotel this morning because my Kindle hasn’t been able to verify the DRM this morning. It was online YESTERDAY. Make paper great again.

mrdoornbos,

@root42 it’s a shame because I don’t read in low light as well as I used to so the backlight is nice.
