i wouldn’t say the writing on Doctor Who this season has been particularly great, but the show finally got its sense of fun back. the show had gotten so dark and dour. i love the excited energy of the new cast.

i’d love to have a season of Doctor Who where the companion is just some person, and not the mysterious key to this season’s big mystery box.

i don’t understand the kind of “futurist” who thinks it’s good to put chips in our brains, but bad to change our genders. They seem like the same kind of bio-hacking to me.

my bluesky account has turned out like my twitter account was — 99% bitching about politics. i very intentionally don’t bring that energy into this space.

i miss pre-2016, when most of my social media experience was shitposting on tumblr.

my favorite place on the internet these days is subreddits for fast food chains. people spend their whole lives optimizing the art of ordering the perfect burrito for the minimal price. beautiful humans

it’s weird how i’ll get excited and write like 3 songs in one month and then not even pick up an instrument for the next 11 months. i guess i just have too many hobbies. now if i could just finish Planet Crafter already…

My transition is going amazingly well in so many ways but one: my voice. I’ve struggled with it for a long time.

Today I realized it’s not because it’s hard (though it is) Rather, I struggle because I won’t let myself do well.

My voice keeps me from being correctly gendered in public. And I think deep down I don’t feel I deserve to be. I’m not worthy of it.

So I don’t let myself have it.

Damn.

@bumpus 🫂

yeah, i have a much harder time making myself use my voice than i do actually doing the voice. i don’t even understand why.

but you do deserve it, and i hope you let yourself have it.

heh i checked the gimp git history, looks like my patches were in 2004 and of course this was cvs days, so you had to get a committer to commit it for you

the tiff plugin also had big-endian bugs!

and i almost forgot, i ported the twain scanner plugin from windows to macos x :D

amazingly twain is still around? hah

@brooke twain!

i appreciate twain. so much shitty scanner software out there. it was nice to have a standard.

Lord help me, I’m back on my bullshit. Applying for another job finally, and I’m getting all excited and writing up plans for how I’d approach the problem space. And I’m applying under my new name, too. I don’t want to get my hopes up, but I fear it’s already too late for that.

I’ve been playing Planet Crafter lately instead of coding. It’s really fun, but it doesn’t give me much to talk about. I’ve finished terraforming the planet and now I’m working on the endgame.

We just watched Mitchells vs the Machines, which if you haven't seen is very enjoyable, but near the end of the movie I made a comment about how the movie had a very similar feel to the Spiderverse films.

Spouse scoffed and said "they're nothing alike!"

I WAS FUCKING RIGHT! ITS THE SAME WRITERS AND PRODUCER

zombierustpunk,

@twipped that movie gave me so much gender envy (before i even knew what that was)

That feeling when your pharmacy switches to a different manufacturer for your generic medication and the new one is much worse. I’ve had altoids with less curiously strong flavor than that peppermint hockey puck I just swallowed.

you ever think about how "copy" and "paste" don't have dedicated keys on most keyboards

zombierustpunk,
@zombierustpunk@hachyderm.io avatar

@aeva look, we’ve gotta use keys for commonly-used operations, like, uh… scroll lock? pause break?

zombierustpunk,
@zombierustpunk@hachyderm.io avatar

@rygorous @aeva Wait, I’ve been a C++ dev for about 20 years — much of it on Windows, and I’ve never used it*. Does the pause/break key pull up the debugger for the current window’s exe or something?

*Okay, I used to use it to pause text output in MS-DOS.

zombierustpunk,
@zombierustpunk@hachyderm.io avatar

@rygorous @aeva wait, no, the MS-DOS one was scroll lock. I don’t remember ever using pause/break.

i tried to upgrade my philips hue bridge, and after reinstalling the app 5 times, creating 2 separate accounts, unscrewing multiple bulbs, and cutting my finger open, I’m ready to throw the whole set and all the bulbs into the trash and move into the woods and live by candlelight.

i finally found something that even mentioned passing a callback from native code to java via jni. i'm still not entirely sure if this is the best or only path to pass callbacks to java. the types of functions i'm planning on passing as callbacks are:

the page mentioning the callback is https://stackoverflow.com/a/1391240

pub fn positive_button_function() {
    info!("Positive button pressed...");
}

or

|| {
    info!("Positive button pressed...");
}

anyone have any suggestions on how to implement this?

zombierustpunk,
@zombierustpunk@hachyderm.io avatar

@alexis oh, somehow i missed that it was rust. i’ve only used JNI with C++.

i’d be curious to know what you end up with. i might even play around with it some myself
