    Well, I do know why it's my new one - I wasn't aware of this tx until I noticed it one afternoon last autumn during disturbed condx on Joensuu🇫🇮 , when propagation was good to Iran & parts of ME, but Asia was virtually inexistent!

    This evening it's A=4, K=1.67, and is @ 63.9N, south enough to disturb more Asian paths than usual, such as this one to 972-HLCA.

    And as I type it, Iran is actually DOMINANT on 720! (EDIT 1728z: three Radio Iran IDs in one sentence!)

    738v kHz: something's waving up & down around this freq w/ ~200Hz sidebands.

    It's not IRIB Radio Bushehr, which is steady @ 737.9513.

    Nor is it Taiwan Fishery Radio nor Xinjiang -- or what? CNR1??? I've just heard an intro of their cultural px, usually aired @ 1505z, at 1634z 😱

    And no, it's not RNE Barcelona - I checked them on EA3HRU KiwiSDR, in case you're asking 🙂

    Note there's also sth extra drifting up continuously - was around 738.0 at 1633z, exceeded 739 @ 1638z...

    arnie_dxer,
    @arnie_dxer@mastodon.radio avatar

    There's no wobbling on 738 kHz on Chongqing🇨🇳 , or rather, FlyCat SDR (seems to be a successor to FlyDog SDR - and no, it's not available in stores (yet?)). This SDR in Central China seems to actually have Xinjiang PBS on top, with Taiwan below it -- yet, this max-zoomed-in waterfall trace shows signs of music from yet different station I'm NOT hearing 🤔

    arnie_dxer,
    @arnie_dxer@mastodon.radio avatar

    Well, no wobbling in Haparanda🇸🇪, @ SM2BYC, either o.O only a quick check there though as port 8073 is busy & redirected me to port 8074 unit, where somebody else was using its antenna switch, so I didn't want to disrupt his/her listening to Radio Capodistria too much 😜

    arnie_dxer,
    @arnie_dxer@mastodon.radio avatar

    Tough verdict but probably nothing indicative of any wobbling in Cyprus 🇨🇾, although only "audio waterfall" was available, which is of rather poor resolution.

    Some tips btw: if you find your audio waterfall too bright, DON'T adjust waterfall levels in WF box - it'll actually make the waterfall all-blank! Instead, set AGC to less aggressive settings - particularly threshold level should be higher (making weak signals sound quieter but something for something 🤷).

    Recently I've been using Taiwanese 's a lot in the mornings for Chinese music shows on CNR5 & Voice of Strait - and perhaps other stations if those don't deliver.

    I also tend to snoop over what others are listening.

    So today I found somebody listening to 21437 kHz.

    It turned out to be Japanese hams exchanging quite detailed rpts incl. air pressure & wind strength & direction.

    And so I found an Okera Net ➡️ http://www.okeranet.com/
    Apparently it's for leisure boats

    Actually... why would China be FEBC? I'm sure their frequencies (9275 & 9345 kHz currently) from Philippines carry very similar programming, and yet it's NOT jammed 🤨

    Recently, a (International Radio Club of America) group, which discusses , has been hot about a phenomenon of Chinese ... or a strange defect of some 🇨🇳 MW transmitters... or both 🤔

    Namely, Rumblers.

    Unrelated to the wobblers, but over on a in Hong Kong🇭🇰 I've noticed a 981 kHz transmitter gone wobbly... similar to 1503 kHz reported yesterday, yet faster. I'm not sure if it's one of the CNR1s or something else

    1503 kHz: weak wobbly carrier, presumed from China 🇨🇳, seen around 1500z today here in NE Poland. I've seen the same thing - and even heard the audio - some 5-6 years back on a Tokyo area KiwiSDR, as "whisperized" instrumental music battling with JOUK... impressive it's been left out like this for so many years 🥴

    And there it is just caught during a (brief) spoken announcement on NHK's Rajio Shinyabin music hour, via HL5NTR in Daegu🇰🇷.

    Those warped music traces literally look like raindrops on the waterfall 😂

    Don't ask me about the exact station, unless one is indicated as such in MWLIST... just looked... not 🤷

    Here's an interesting post found on WRTH Facebook group regarding the UNID 1542 kHz station in China 🇨🇳

    Acc. to Zhengheng Kang, the station is heard far & wide inside China, but lack of 's within the country makes it very tough if not impossible to get any meaningful results of TDoA multilateration.

    And if that's not enough of a mystery behind it... they're apparently selling medicines!

    BTW sorry for russian test on FB buttons; that's how Google indexed it :v

    Weird things are happening in the and communities these days - a new channel marker suddenly surfaced and this one is like none before: it starts at 5MHz and then repeats its short beeps (pulses, actually) every 400kHz until 30.2MHz, exactly 64 carriers, with the same signal, perfectly synced, it would seem.

    So far its origin is unknown and it’s purpose and application is also very much unknown 🙂

    It’s been heard all over the world, you can try it yourself with one of the many online receivers 🙂

    MAJOR SENSATION from North Korea, where, as confirmed by monitors in Japan & South Korea...

    PBS Pyongyang Broadcasting Station and clandestine Echo of Unification have both CLOSED❗❌

    It's quite surprising for a SK website to give now former NK frequencies as listening to NK radio in SK is a crime... but they did it ➡️ https://www.spnews.co.kr/news/articleView.html?idxno=75583

    PBS was on 657 801 855 3250 3320 6160 kHz, 23h/24.

    Echo of Unification broadcast 04-06, 13-15 & 22-24z on 3970, 5905, 6250 kHz

    Now, reading an English translation of the SPN story, I noticed a mention of Northeast Asian Broadcasting Research Association...

    ... which reminds me of a server they ran for a short while (perhaps a month or two) in 2018.

    That SDR was situated very close to a NIS transmitter site in Hyeoncheon district of Gyeonggi, just across the Han river of Seoul, which carries Voice of the People on and Radio Free Korea on 1143 , to North Korea.

    Zoom-out of a general Seoul-Goyang-Incheon area, with Han river splitting it in two parts in the middle of the screen, running top-left to the centre to middle-right of the screen. A pin is visible on Gyeonggi-do/Goyang MW/SW transmitter site for clandestine radio stations targeting North Korea: Voice of the People and Radio Free Korea.
    Even further zoom-out capturing nearly all of Korean Peninsula. The pin marking South Korean clandestine radio transmitters now shows up very close to North Korean border; in fact, I measured its distance to DMZ as little as 25 km to the nearest spot.

    arnie_dxer,
    @arnie_dxer@mastodon.radio avatar

    I've even managed to capture some Radio Free Korea from that , with their monumental opening theme... I wonder if they still use it? Back then, I believe, they broadcast in 2-hour or 4-hour slots repeated continuously for a few hours; isn't it different now?

    arnie_dxer,
    @arnie_dxer@mastodon.radio avatar

    A funny thing though: as I rewatch that RFK capture, I notice that "Northeast Asian Broadcasting Research Association" called themselves "Northeast Asian Broadcasting Institute" in the header of its

    I remember my Google searches for "Northeast Asian Broadcasting Institute" at the time failed to bring up anything related. Perhaps better luck with the other name?

    EDIT: Hmmm........ likely not 🫤

    Looking at 49m band ahead of my annual New Year's Eve radio monitoring project in a few days. At this moment (1500-1600z), my focus would be Chinese or Korean domestic stations. Including North Korea 🇰🇵

    So... 6100 KCBS is blocked @ 1400-1500z by CRI/CGTN Radio in English also on 6100. And also blocked @ 1500-1600z by CRI russian on 6105! So it's a lost cause 😞 And anyway, after 1600z, when this freq is finally clear... there's nearly no signal vs local streetlight noise 😩

    Checking back on 4010 kHz from Kyrgyzstan, at the time of their sign-on...

    Soviet-style intermittent 1kHz test tone clearly heard on novoZibirsk , with some hum, non-linear distortion, and audio from 0000z - unfortunately low, and mixing w/ the hum. IS, announcement in Kyrgyz & russian, National Anthem -- and whatever was broadcast afterwards was barely even audible...

    Also heard on 612 kHz here in NE Poland :) mostly buried under some Quran (Jordan?) and Spain.

    So I'm checking ZL1ROT #KiwiSDR on Rotorua🇳🇿 to see NO signal of Radio Vanuatu 🇻🇺 on any of their known #shortwave freqs (2485 if ever used, 3945, 7260, guess I forgot about one - maybe @ 5 MHz? Absent too anyway).

    But got Solomon Islands BC 🇸🇧 on 5020 kHz, pretty strong and... well, not clear, as there's plenty of thunderstorm crashes possibly from the cyclone.
