One big advantage of being #actuallyautistic is, for me, that I'm so used to #crises in my life (heck, life is one big #crisis to me), when something happens that NT's perceive as a crisis, I usually don't blink an eye.

"Oh, but you stayed so calm and handled the situation!" – Nope, you're just used to see me on a daily basis in constant crisis mode.

@twan This truly is an #ActuallyAutistic superpower!

It can also be a bit absurd…I’m remarkably calm & level-headed in “legitimate” life-threatening crises. But change my schedule suddenly?!?

On a related note…I used to think I was “weak” because everything was so damn hard & intense

Once I learned about my #neurodiversity, I realized I’m weathering things every damn day that would break most people. We’re actually strong as hell…we have to be

For me being means that I came into this world, screaming because it has been too overwhelming and this feeling never stopped since then. It can be beautiful to have sensitive senses, but this world is currently not made for this. Most people experience the world in a different way and don't understand your level of intensity.

I'm super proud of my fellow BFS committee members E.M. Faulds & David Green for being so open & vulnerable about what it's like to be a neurodiverse writer. I already posted Beth's piece, but as we continue the BFS's celebration of Neurodiversity Week , here BFS Secretary David Green is searingly honest about what it’s like to be autistic and a writer—especially one who writes about neurodiverse characters.

Has anyone else noticed how history seems to remember the names of so many folks whose behaviors we would now describe as ““ or “”?

How many savants?

How many geniuses?

How many intellectual heroes of the modern world remain virtually unknown?

Could it be because the modern genius’s works are appropriated by their employers and remain “trade secrets”?

So....I feel like I'm pretty weird when it comes to certain things I really enjoy.

Music for example. I LOVE music. All kinds. Rock, Pop, HipHop, Classic and all of the subgenres that those genres created....with the exception of Country.

I just CANNOT Country. There's just something about the "twang" sound of it that just makes me cringe, if that makes any sense.

Does anyone else have something like this where they LOVE almost everything about a particular topic or hobby, except ONE particular subset of it?

Or is it just me?
