"In 2019 alone, more than half a million people died due to a linked to high and low temperatures, a new study found. With the world getting warmer due to human-made , that number is expected to rise.

As the planet gets warmer, the study said, the burden of strokes due to high temperature “has increased rapidly” and that number will grow “sharply” in the future."

A study of more than 200 people undergoing surgery found that nearly 60% had microplastics or even smaller nanoplastics in a main artery. Those who did were 4.5 times more likely to experience a heart attack, a stroke or death in the approximately 34 months after the surgery than were those whose arteries were plastic-free.

Landmark study links microplastics to serious health problems

Healthy runner's stroke followed a bad bout of COVID-19 | American Heart Association

"She was still recovering from a serious bout of COVID-19, her third. All of this was unusual for Marshall, then 47 and in excellent health, thanks in part to running nearly every day."

"The emerging link between COVID-19 and an increased risk of heart attack and stroke – led her doctors to believe her severe case of COVID-19 may have contributed to her stroke."

"I feel tremendously lucky, but I'm also still a little scared, especially about COVID," she said. "I do what I can to prevent it."

news from the UK: “During the COVID-19 pandemic it became apparent that neurological complications were occurring in a significant proportion of hospitalised patients & even in those with mild COVID-19 infection. While some neurological ‘symptoms’ were often mild (headache & muscle aches [myalgia]), it became clear that more significant & potentially life-changing new neurological ‘complications’ were occurring, including encephalitis (brain inflammation), seizures, & stroke.

“Our study shows that markers of are present in the blood months after COVID-19, & particularly in those who have had a COVID-19-induced brain complication (e.g. , or ), despite resolution of the inflammatory response in the blood. This suggests the possibility of ongoing inflammation & injury inside the brain itself which may not be detected by blood tests for inflammation."

Here's my first 🧵
In this work, co-authors and I clustered ischaemic stroke patients profiles, and recovered common patterns of cognitive, sensorimotor damage.

...Historically many focal lesions to specific cortical areas were associated with specific distinction, but most strokes involve subcortical regions and bring multivariate patterns of deficits.
To characterize those patterns, many studies have turned to correlation analysis, factor analysis, PCA, focusing on the relations among variables==domains of impairments...

Looking to the left and right before crossing a road may increase the risk of breaking your neck.

Wearing a tinfoil hat may increase the risk of being hit by lightning.

The paper is about a possible, very tiny increase in risk in people > 85y after vaccination.
But Infection with or is proven to massively increase stroke risk!
If there’s an effect it may be the Influenza vaccine, but it’s hard to tell because the effect is so tiny.

Etsy is fantastic. Except for the part where they're , user-hostile, and provide absolutely zero for sellers (and not much more for buyers).

They just told a of mine to expect their purchase in 5 business days.

Canada 's "delivery standard" for the method selected is 11 business days. And they're not even honouring those standards 'cause of the "emergency".

cazabon,

So I'm going to have a pissed-off customer, who bought expecting his to arrive by a certain special , which if I were able to ask Canada Post if it could be there by that date, they would laugh until they fell down, had a , and went into a .

And there is no way to contact Etsy to tell them to stop doing this. Or do anything else, for that matter.
