Rather sad I can't play Roblox on my Steam Deck any more. 😞

3DPrintingDad,
@3DPrintingDad@fosstodon.org avatar

@RL_Dane That's the rationale by the Roblox team. They say that the Wine compatibility layer allows people to cheat. (The Steam Deck, being Linux-based, requires Wine to run Roblox.)

I dunno. There are alternative anti-cheat mechanisms but I get it. Just sad. At least I can still play on my laptop.

3DPrintingDad,
@3DPrintingDad@fosstodon.org avatar

@RL_Dane It's interesting. Most of the games are simplistic grind-fests, but there are some gems. Yes, there is a game creation studio but I've not really used it. My youngest son likes playing Roblox games with friends and occasionally ropes me in.

There has been controversy in that the Roblox game makes money off the efforts of under-age kids who make games and essentially don't get paid for their efforts.

The Verge article on the best printer in 2024 is just completely brilliant in so many ways.

And also kinda sad.

@ross Looks pretty much like the one we got over a decade ago for under $100. It has been rock solid and the generic toner we buy is dirt cheap.

Wish everything was that easy to maintain.

@layers looks at a pro delta printer from France.

It's... interesting.

And don't get any ideas - that's a baguette he printed.

Finally got my de-bricked and working again.

Had to purchase a custom-ish eMMC adapter off of that scary retailer in China, and it took nearly three weeks to get here XD

Also got a webcam for it, and excitedly set it up, but... I can barely see anything, because of course, webcams are pretty wide-angle.

@RL_Dane Shoot. Sorry you had to go through that. I'm glad you got it working again! 😁 This is why I choose printers that are user-serviceable: one can easily keep a printer working for will over a decade... If one can get into it.

@RL_Dane Aah! I wouldn't have thought that to be a problem! 😱 Not good on their part.

@RL_Dane I'm super glad for that. It's amazing how much better things have gotten.

It's that time of year. Many, many rabbits are given as gifts, then summarily abandoned. If you are considering a rabbit, ever, these are the things to consider:

  • Rabbits can easily live 8-14 years. It's a long commitment and something one should not take lightly.
  • Rabbits must and do chew; their teeth grow continually. This means they will chew on anything handy to keep their teeth at a proper length. USB cords, power cables, couches, boxes, bookcases, etc. You can help by

At some point, I'm going to have to make a short video showing my latte routine and all the ways 3D-printing has helped with it.

Coffee and bring me so much joy.

Holy shit no wonder why I was stuck forever in the original Sam&Max! This black thing in the middle that doesn't react to the Examine and Use commands is an elevator that only reacts to Walk 🤦‍♂I would've never found that on my own

3DPrintingDad,
@3DPrintingDad@fosstodon.org avatar

@stooovie I grew up on Sierra adventure games. By the time I got to Sam and Max in college, I learned, when in doubt, wildly click everywhere with every item and action. 🤣

I absolutely love this video by @cnc_kitchen. This novel slicing technique shows promise and I could certainly see this being incorporated into an open-source slicer platform, such as @prusaslicer and have it propagate through related code bases.

I often show TPU print successes but not many of my failures. My TPU duster is tricky - 0.8mm-thick TPU on the bellows can be tough to get right. I wanted another duster for a project and ran into issues because I didn't document my settings well.

(See alt for description)

3DPrintingDad,
@3DPrintingDad@fosstodon.org avatar

Ultimately, I had to switch from a 0.6mm nozzle to 0.4mm. I also found that, ironically, printing with a cold bed instead of a 50C bed led to very rough overhangs due to curling.

Ultimately, after many tries of adjusting one setting at a time, I got it.

(See alt for more info.)

@3DPrintingDad@fosstodon.org avatar

I have updated the description for the duster on Printables with my settings to help everyone (including me!) to have a greater chance at success.

I stumbled across the fact that has a bi-monthly filament subscription. https://proto-pasta.com/products/endless-pastabilities

My interest was piqued, BUT I couldn't make the numbers make sense. $75 for 3 500g spools of "special" colors every 2 months?

Then i went and checked out the prices of their "special" spools. ~$50/kg !

Beautiful colors, though. I'm definitely coming back for special projects.

3DPrintingDad,
@3DPrintingDad@fosstodon.org avatar

@masukomi I would occasionally splurge on Proto-pasta back a few years ago. It's hard for me to justify now, what with filament prices continually dropping.

I get it: HTPLA is pretty much a specialty engineering plastic, but I am not going to want to pay the engineering premium on glitter filament. (I do love their glitter filament, though.)

I still have some in my stash that I save for special projects.

@cmdrmoto @coffeegeek Oh, wow. I'd love to try but it would be difficult for me to source the grinder at that price. (But, yes, that is an excellent price.) That said, I plan on offering up the source @FreeCAD files as well as STEP files for those who prefer other CAD. I hope to make this something others can adapt to their needs! 😊
