This community might be harmful

This community sends “All lives matter” vibes. I understand that there are issues with how men are treated and there is nothing wrong with talking about it, but it does seem a little bit like a distraction from feminism issues. Women are objectively under a lot bigger threat and talking about women rights more makes a lot...

This kind of thinking is why MRAs succeed where Mens Lib fail. Mens Lib is all about men’s rights through a feminist lens, but feminism does not give a single shit about men. Even just having a space for mens issue leads to posts like this, which downplay and even try to silence men who try to talk about their issues.

And no, it is not harmful to talk about mens issues. We can have many different places all focusing on different things. Like a cat sub focusing on cats, and a dog sub focusing on dogs. A dog sub existing does not mean the cat sub is any less valid, it’s just a place about dogs.

Edit:

And for the record, MRAs and Mens Lib are fighting for the same things. It’s a good goal. The only real difference is men’s lib burdens themselves with a feminist perspective, which does not help, and as this post shows, hurts.

Buckshot creating a bunch of smaller holes that in turn created one big failure.

Hes right. If there must be a law, it should be by elected officials, not some guy like the ATF director Steven Dettelbach who by his own admission isnt even a gun expert. Thats two extremely good reasons why he shouldnt be allowed to be anywhere near gun laws.

Blamemeta,

Nah, the militia bit was always a separate dependent clause (in the English grammar sense). It’s reasoning.

The right shall not be infringed is an independent clause. It stands on it’s own. I know almost no one remembers elementary school, but independent vs dependent clauses are taught there. Anyone remember diagramming sentences?

Blamemeta,

Honestly, never really watched X-Men, or read comics, but I can imagine being frustrated if you were a fan of the characters. Just make new characters instead of hijacking old ones. But then again, we wouldn’t have modern Harley Quinn without hijacking, and she’s become a really good character in her own right.

If it were up to me, I’d have the original heros age, and that way they could become mentors and make room for a new batch of superheros. Superman has been around since 1938, surely he’d be in his 110s, if not older, assuming he was in his 20s back then.

Blamemeta,

The problem with xmen is fundmental. They are weapons. Its not skin color or sexuality or anything, they are living weapons, and the metaphor falls flat before it ever stands up.

Blamemeta,

The point was that they werent christians.

Meta: How can we grow this community?

The title says it all: How can we grow the Rust community here on Lemmy? Many users fled Reddit or are here for different reasons. But compared to it’s commercial big brother, the Rust community here, feels more or less dead. I would like to discuss ideas, on how we can changes that and make Lemmy the default for Rust related...

Blamemeta,

Blamemeta,

Conservatives are not a monolith.

That said, “Indigenous sovereignty” is very right wing. Welcome!

Blamemeta,

Cool, cool. How do you feel about Indians and Chinese (as in the subcontinent) in Britian?

How about Syrians in Sweden?

Blamemeta,

Yes actually. Why wouldnt they be the same thing?

Blamemeta,

Ive been thinking about this comment.

Its true that I dont know the history or foundation of being pro-guns/pro-2a/etc but I do know the history of disarmed populations.

Theres also the stat that college educated people are more likely to be left wing.

I wonder if conservative idea are more naturally evolving than progressive ideas.

In other words, left wing ideas are instructed but right wing ideas are not.

Being real, hes done a lot to my mental state. On reddit, I would have similar arguments, usually about guns. I thought I was educating people, or at least getting them to actually think critically about their positions.

Nope, I wasnt educating or doing anything good, turns out I was just wasting my time.

Its not just him either, theres a few lefties that I’ve noticed that do the exact same shit.

Blamemeta,

I’m very aware, and its as tempting as ice cream in hell. I get why a lot of mods go bad now. But I want to avoid being a power tripping mod, and thats why he remains unbanned.

Blamemeta,

What is even the point of arguing with you?

Blamemeta,

You know, I used to. I used to enjoy digging up news articles, charters, recordings, studies, whatever. Felt like maybe I was getting through to people. Maybe not in the moment, but maybe theyd think about what they read. If not agreeing with me, at least just understanding just a little more.

Its really disheartening.

Blamemeta,

So because I dont censor it, that must mean I agree with it? Is that really your mindset?

Blamemeta,

What double standard?
