Over 100 killed and 700 injured by IDF at humanitarian aid delivery point.

Try convincing me this isn’t systematic, cynical, planned GENOCIDE.

How is this being allowed to happen?

Israel shows itself to be dead behind the eyes. Never again will it be able to walk with head held high. A pariah state. So dreadful and sad.

@GreenerFutures@mastodon.world avatar

@mloxton yeah but no but.

The US is the world’s largest oil producer. It has lots of domestic reserve. I see your logic, but just spitballing ..

.. is it as much about blatant power projection, almost for its own sake? Maybe it wants a forward operating base in the ME to keep pesky Arabs on their toes because Christian economic colonialism is just fine, but anyone else’s isn’t. And the Zionist lobby is deeply entwined. 🤷‍♂️

Not just oil; if only it were that simple.

So why?

Am I alone in being completely unsurprised by any of this?

Of course they knew. But free market capitalism doesn’t care about waste. It’s external to the money flow model. It only cares about capital and there were (arguably still are) no market incentives to fix the waste problem. So they haven’t.

Weird old guy leaders like and are what happens when a enters its end-phase. When it’s desperate to cling to what it had and is so unimaginative it can’t envision a new future. When vested interests anchor the status quo and new voices challenging it are seen as extremist. It’s all about protecting the status quo, and nothing embodies it better than old white guys preaching a new golden age just like the one they remember.

This is the bit that climate deniers who say the climate has always changed don’t get.

When the climate changes faster than flora and fauna (including us) can adapt and evolve, extinctions happen. It’s less the change that’s problematic. It’s more the rate of change that kills. And humanity’s impact is accelerating change rates. Then tipping points take the driving seat.

Track all 3 back and we get to consumerism; the creation and delivery of dreams and stuff.

Kill the false icon of and the rest will follow.

This is why unimaginative comfortable consumerists recoil at the notion of ‘’. They can’t think beyond stuff to a more equitable rebalancing of carbon spend.

Government in court over chicken poo in River Wye https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-68221223

This is good news; it has to stop.

But behind the scenes lies a bigger problem: industrial chicken farming.

From egg to 2kg in 37 days is unnatural. An indoor life is unnatural. A 37 day life is unnatural. Immature, fatty meat lacks texture and flavour.

Industrial scale meat farming is horrible yet it’s a growth industry.

Attack the source, not just its consequence.

At face value this seems good news indeed.

But read the small print and 400m tCO2e is a carbon capture fantasy.

As Greenpeace have put it, “While it sounds like a big number, this target uses some creative accounting with promised carbon capture to hide much lower actual emission cuts”

Oh dear.

Based on what economic assumptions and imperatives?

Based on what mandate or democratic consensus that funding state pensions is less important than something else?

This is bad reporting. Alarmist and without context; if the argument is about affordability, say so. If it’s about workforce, say so.

The campaign to end the triple lock has clearly started.

Quick EV acceleration is a safety feature, says Stellantis CEO. You can kill people outside your car before they get a chance to kill you. Automatic fire is a safety feature says maker of gun that kills people.

@GreenerFutures@mastodon.world avatar

@gerrymcgovern this why I continue to argue that all vehicles should be regulated on max mass and tyre width. Do those 2 things without sacrificing safety standards and everything gets smaller, slower, more efficient, and for EVs shorter range, making them the least efficient way to travel longer distances. This is all needed, along with a revolution in mass transport.

This isn’t a new problem. My ex walked away from midwifery in 2004 for exactly the same reason. Understaffing meant she routinely couldn’t work within established patient-midwife ratios. She used to arrive home after shifts emotionally exhausted from constant worry.
