Today I was wandering the woods and stumbled upon the surreptious bloom of bloodroot, Sanguinaria canadensis.

There is much folklore, Native American historical uses, and purposed medicinal information (some quite dangerous) floating around about this plant.

In our general area, southern Indiana/western Kentucky, it sprouts mid-march, blooming for only a day or two in the same month, leaving the greenery to grow the rest of the warm season.

KentuckyConjurer,

Bloodroot is one of those plants that people easily walk past. Low to the ground and not exactly spectactular, it hides amongst the mayapples (Podophyllum peltatum) and other short spring plants before being hidden by scrubland.

Its root-like rhisome releases a bright red sap, hence the name, when cut or broken. It's HIGHLY recommended that you handle with gloves as people can have a severe skin reaction when handling it.

We had our Spring Equinox event last night.

We each picked an element to work with over the incoming year and painted eggs to symbolize what we want to nurture more of in our lives.

Thank you! My hub got it for me several years ago. It's been through many a ceremony, used as a wrap on cool spring evenings, a blanket to sit on at concerts..... well travelled.

Is anyone else super excited for the two cicada broods to emerge?

Imagine the energy in that!

My hexing group is meeting on April 6th to practice raising and pushing energy in a cone of power. We've done this on multiple occasions, but I wanted to switch things up this month and have them focus on elemental energy.

We will do a short, guided, meditation for each of the four main elements. They will write for 4-5 minutes on their meditation and what connections, or interruptions they feel.

Afterwards, we are going to focus on raising specific types of energy by focusing on one element and its attributes while we raise our cone.

1/2

KentuckyConjurer,

The purpose is for them to feel how the different types of energies flow through them. For some, fire energy might feel quite natural, and to others, it might be harder to move. When working with a group, sometimes you might have 1/2 the group raising fire energy and the 1/2 air energy to feed it, depending on your purpose.

The goal is to have a cohesive, working group where everyone is cross trained, but also allowed to practice resonating with their natural inclinations so they can flourish, and in turn, the group can flourish.

We've all got a lot of work on our hands this year with it being election year.

I don't know.

I'd prolly touch it.

The Witches Chair from the Mermaid Inn, Rye, East Sussex.
Judith Blincow the owner of the Inn has this to say about it, ‘It is a seventeenth century chair which used to belong to a witches’ coven and has a curse on it.’ We always tell people not to touch it.’

😂

My mom made me a set of Raggedy Ann and Andy when I was a little girl. It was a really popular pattern back in the 80s. Mine weren't possessed though.

KentuckyConjurer,

@SteveHynd

That's why it's so tempting. :blobdevil:

Thank you for posting the article!!!

Me, too!

@baethyn

Right? And if they hadn't've said don't touch it, I probably wouldn't have even thought about it. LOL

when I browse online secondhand clothing shops, part of my process includes checking if the item is made of natural fibres so that a) it's not obnoxious to wear, and b) it will be suitable to be downcycled as a cleaning rag later. Sad, limp polyester is just… not ideal, at any point in its lifecyle. It's depressing, because there's so much of it, and it's so cheap… but I just don't really want to pay for the privilege of finally being the person to chuck it in landfill.

KentuckyConjurer,

@elana

I have tactile sensitivities so I'm hesitant to buy clothing online unless it states it clearly. I love this idea though! I'm sewing recyclable Yule wrappings this year!

Here's one for the docuseries discussion group, or anyone else. Have you seen it? Happy Tuesday 💜
(PS I don't know who to tag. I lost the thread, lols and I can't tag @Gorretta.)

I watched this last weekend. Holy hell. It was very well done. I was perplexed by the relationship between her and her father also. I understood her anger, and in many ways, even at his age now, he came across as very naive.

KentuckyConjurer,

@jacklaridian @MargaretSefton @ElizabethLeeCo

Just heartbreaking.

KentuckyConjurer,

@jacklaridian @MargaretSefton @ElizabethLeeCo

Right???? I wonder about all the kickbacks he got for sending kids straight into abusive arms.

KentuckyConjurer,

Indiana just approved allowing schools to hire chaplains as school counselor replacements (stating there is a shortage of school counselors). They aren't required to have any experience with children either. This is going to be a disaster. I fear an uptick in conversion camps because you know these chaplains are going to be pushing that agenda.

KentuckyConjurer,

@MargaretSefton @Well_Worth_A_Read

I loved how supportive her sister was.

KentuckyConjurer,

@MargaretSefton @Well_Worth_A_Read

My brothers never thought my mom was "that bad". I cut off all contact at 24, after stopping contact from 17-22. I really did give her a second chance. None of my brothers believed me. All these years later, only one still has contact with her and he was always her favorite growing up and still doesn't believe the rest of us when we talk about things she did because "he never experienced that".

KentuckyConjurer,

@MargaretSefton @Well_Worth_A_Read

UGH. I'm fairly convinced, being the only daughter, that I took the brunt of it when we were younger. When I stopped communication with her, she started in on them. So when they would do the same as your sis, I'd be like, yes, now try dealing with that kind of crap when you were twelve.

anyone going?

I went in 2020 and would like to go back this year. They had cancelled the festival but I still went and camped by myself. It was beautiful there.

I did get creeped out because I heard something huge splash behind me in the swamp!

Witches and that sort,

Can we talk about burnout and/or boredom in the craft?

It feels like I haven't been expanding myself lately. I spend a good bit of time preparing events for our community every month with three other members. Our paths are all different so we take turns leading the events. I partially started doing this thinking I would find others who follow a similar path to mine and we could do group work together (not as a coven but as a circle).

My practice is solitary, too, with the exception of my social justice group. We do energy building sessions and group work, which I greatly appreciate. We plan it all out in advance so that everyone has a contributed part of the work.

That said, most of my other work is so incorporated in my daily life that I couldn't really share that practice....it's living.

But oh how nice it is to find someone wants to wander the woods and work with you.
