Sharkwellington,

It’s so heartbreaking hearing my mother wish for a white Christmas every year. They’re not coming back, Mom…

Sharkwellington,

Nothing short of handing them cash in person is truly a guarantee. Really depressing how it’s turned out.

Sharkwellington,

I just imagined a world where for 10 years I told my child I loved them and then for them to within less than a year, stop responding and then actively shame you for doing so.

Whenever I hear a single-sentence story about how a parent did nothing but love their child and the child decided to drop contact out of nowhere, I always wonder what context has been withheld.

The Missing Missing Reasons

Sharkwellington,

Are you to tell me the infinitely reused plotline of “moves from big city to small town and leaves a white collar worker for a blue collar worker” has a conservative appeal??

Sharkwellington,

Right you just have to find a sweet spot handicap to use. You can absolutely both be challenged at the same time, just find the right equivalent of tying one arm behind your back.

Sharkwellington,

Generally it’ll do something like make one person do more damage and take less, but if the skill gap is too big it really won’t make a difference if they can never land a hit. Personally I’m a fan of “I can’t use X” or “I will only use Y.” It allows everyone to still have a challenging and fair feeling time, instead of pounding away at a punching bag that one hits you which just doesn’t feel great for anyone.

Sharkwellington,

This is what I’ve heard called the “bus buffer”, which means “run your team so that if someone is hit by a bus you aren’t totally screwed.”

Sharkwellington,

It’s sorta like lying, but not exactly, but there’s the ever present fear that I’ll be exposed for… something.

I think what you’re looking for is “masking.”

Sharkwellington,

I played in a FFG Star Wars group for a few months and it really was so freaking unintuitive the symbols and colors that they used. It felt like they wanted to simplify things but instead you had to keep track of green, yellow, purple, red, black, blue dice and like 5 or 6 different possible roll outcomes, you have to remember which symbol cancels which and also keep track of which skills are adding or subtracting dice…it really made me miss the simplicity of a D20.

Sharkwellington,

Please don’t make sweeping generalizations about whether or not women are “of use in the household” ever again, thanks.

Sharkwellington,

Do you think stereotyping is okay just because someone else does it? Nevermind the misogynistic implications of basing a woman’s value on her usefulness “in the household.”

Sharkwellington,

Right, there are plenty of reactive measures available but the only proactive measures are either restricting availability of the source photos used or restricting use of the deep fake tools used. Everything beyond that is trying to put the genie back in the bottle.

Sharkwellington,

“They’re just boys being boys, Your Honor!”

Sharkwellington,

And that’s the point I was making, nobody can be “protected” from widely available photos being used on widely available programs. Best we can do is deter but that isn’t a guarantee.

Sharkwellington,

The 15-18 year old brain does not work that way and it is simple as that.

The insidious rise of "tradwives": A right-wing fantasy is rotting young men's minds (www.salon.com)

If the average American were asked what they imagine the priorities of the feminist movement are these days, most people would likely cite concerns like “fighting abortion bans” or “getting justice for sexual violence victims” or boring mainstays like “equal pay for equal work.” But if you listen in to the world of...

Sharkwellington,

Interested to hear what you think are not “actual important rights.” Please elaborate.

Sharkwellington,

The Fall of the House of Usher reference?

Sharkwellington,

Netflix horror show based on Edgar Allen Poe’s short stories. Has Mark Hamill. Pretty good.

Sharkwellington,

I was just thinking to myself “it’s been a while since the last one, probably another just around the corner.” Sorry, I jinxed it.

Sharkwellington,

Just using the term “faux sophistication” is faux sophistication if I’ve ever seen it.
