Azalad the Black was born to a powerful hobgoblin warlord, but due to an inherited disease from his mother he was crippled. Azalads father only wanted a son to inherit his position, so Azalad was mostly neglected. Due to his condition, Azalad would spend most of his life studying and reading, and quickly became a devoted follower of Bane, and an accomplished necromancer. After attaining enough power, Azalad killed his father as part of a magic ritual that sapped his father's vitality, curing his condition. Azalad now travels the realms as a necromancer for hire. His black iron armor, forged from scraps mined from the armor of Bane himself, has led to him earning the title of The Black.

He's become the unofficial party leader. Although the rest of the party is mostly good alingned, they realize that Azalads tactics get the job done, despite how cruel he can be.

He is a Necromancer with the Death Knight subclass (from Valdas Spire of Secrets, a third party book).

Almost done with Dragonlance: Dragons of Autumn Twilight. Had a few friends and family members talk about how great the Dragonlance books are, but I grew up reading The Legend of Drizzt books. So far I absolutely love it, and if you play DnD I suggest you get a copy.

Vampires, The Masquerade: Bloodlines. The whole vibe of the setting, the story, the locations, and then when I finally understood what the plot was really about. Masterpiece of a game, couldnt stop thinking about it.

I think it's been in development hell for years, and the only screenshots ive seen make it look like a visual novel. Not hyped for it.

In my opinion, trying to put titles and classifications on yourself can usually do more harm than good, and this is a good example why. For a little while I was scared that I wasnt "really bisexual" cause I slightly preferred feminine to masculine people. Then I realized that I shouldnt think about it too much and get stressed over things we all just made up, so now I just do what I want. It sucks that people use that "just a phase" argument, just let people live their lives.

Something I WONT miss from Reddit/other social medias

Like most other people here, I originally came here from reddit. Ive been having a blast so far, and I much prefer the forum-style of this. After about a week of using Lemmy I realized there was something intrinsic to reddit that Lemmy doesnt have. And I wont miss it. Too many people on reddit were way too horny. I was really...

StrahdVonZarovich,
@StrahdVonZarovich@beehaw.org avatar

I loved r/TrueSTL and r/196, but after it devolved into half cropped porn and hornyposting about femboys it just wasnt funny anymore. And not judging preference or anything btw it was just too much. And those two subs are just the ones that pop into my head there were way more, like Wordington.

A part of me wishes that this all just stays as small forums and stuff. Its nice to actually talk to people instead of worrying about accounts actually being bots.

StrahdVonZarovich,
@StrahdVonZarovich@beehaw.org avatar

Hit the nail right on the head. Thats why I LOVE all this rn. I can make posts and comment and people reply with genuine responses (like you for example). I never wanted to comment because it would just get drowned in the sea of recycled ideas. Plus all the bots which made me paranoid about doing anything. A part of me hopes that Lemmy stays like an old school forum/message board forever, because i'm really enjoying this.

Since I was a kid, I always loved the Star Wars expanded universe. My favorites of the whole thing are probably the Republic Commando series and the Thrawn Trilogy. Also love the Gotrek and Felix books, and ive been getting into the Dragonlance franchise

Your favorite board games?

What are your favorite board games? Me and my friends love playing board games, but I get the feeling their tired of playing the same things. What do you guys usually play? My favorite board game of all time is HeroQuest. I never get tired of playing it. Also love Catan, Arkham Horror, Betrayal House on the Hill, Spyfall (great...

Tabletop rpgs are my passion. I devote a lot of time to it, and getting together with my friends to play is my favorite thing in the world. Currently dming Pathfinder Kingmaker.

StrahdVonZarovich,
@StrahdVonZarovich@beehaw.org avatar

Me and friends play the early version of Betrayal at House on the Hill a lot (i think they released an updated version recently) and I also have Baldurs Gate since im a big fan of DnD and the Forgotten Realms setting and the Baldurs Gates games. However, we dont really play the Baldurs Gate version anymore, since it doesnt feel very balanced. The Warlock character, with the ability to attack with Sanity AND at range right from the start is always really OP and has won them the game multiple times. We've also had the traitor lose really fast AND really quickly.

StrahdVonZarovich,
@StrahdVonZarovich@beehaw.org avatar

Oh yeah we're all Pathfinder players lol. Every board game and ttrpg becomes a puzzle that we have to solve with the resources available. So when the game isnt exactly balanced, its not as fun for us.

Pathfinder 2e is pretty great, and an all around upgrade compared to 5e. If you need any Pathfinder 2e book pdfs just dm me

I'm pretty basic, I usually just use google docs. However when I was younger, I found an old typewriter in my attic and got it working. So for a couple of years I would write on a typewriter lol. I looked very pretentious, but I mostly just liked the sound and the novelty of it.

When I was a kid I was super into pokemon. I loved playing the games and they stood out to me for one reason: they were challenging. My first game was Black, and I got stuck on the first gym leader for a few days, but when I figured it out it was immensely satisfying. I would hit roadblock, I would struggle, and eventually I overcame it. Then my friend introduced me to Pokemon Mystery Dungeon and it got even harder. I honestly think that the final dungeon of Explorers of Time made me smarter or something. It forced my dumbass child brain to think outside the box and find solutions on my own.

Then Pokemon X and Y released, and it was the most stupidly easy game ive ever played. And it kept getting easier after that. Add onto that the worsening quality and I stopped caring about Pokemon. My friend who is really into Pokemon hasnt bought a new game in years, he only plays Romhacks or replays the old games.

StrahdVonZarovich,
@StrahdVonZarovich@beehaw.org avatar

I would first play it a bit unmodded before adding a ton of mods. You're gonna want to experience the game in its natural state before changing it. I do this for any game I mod. Makes you appreciate it all more.

Although many are loathe to admit it (including myself) porn has helped a lot of people figure out theyre not straight

1 film thats Overrated, and 1 film thats Underrated

Whats a popular movie that you really dont like? And whats a little known or widely hated film that you love? Although there are bits of Saving Private Ryan that I really love (obviously the landing scene) I can never get past the plot. I just find it so outrageously dumb that so many people would sacrifice their life for one...

Did you mean for it to be Before and After or was that just a coincidence?

StrahdVonZarovich,

Working on a dungeon for my Pathfinder 1e game. Hidden in the sewers underneath the city is an underground complex of insane Derro (little halfling sized purple-skinned insane humanoids) who have been capturing people for their experiments. I have some fun encounters planned, and I intend to make them really weird and alien. Derro alchemists with sentient tumors, psychic malformed derro babies held aloft in golden cages and used as living war banners, mutated and mind controlled humans from the city above used as muscle and servants, fungus monsters, suicide-bomber homonculi, etc etc. I plan for the big reveal to be that a character they met previously (an elven alchemist who runs a free clinic in the city) to be the mastermind behind the derro lair. He's been buying slaves and experimenting on them for centuries (a la Nazi experiments during ww2) to further his medical knowledge which he uses to help people (and eventually cure death but thats mostly for him). He brought the Derro from the deep underground closer to the surface so he could guide their research towards something more productive (the Derros racial insanity makes it difficult for them to make any lasting progress). Oh also the Derro use their alchemical knowledge to wipe the memories of the people they experiment on before sending them back to the surface. Who knows how many hidden mutants are running around aboveground, and if the nightmares of the seemingly insane are actually resurfacing memories...

StrahdVonZarovich,
@StrahdVonZarovich@beehaw.org avatar

Ive had a lot of help lol. Kobold Press' Midgard setting had a few new Derro monsters (Fetal Savant and Dogmoles) and Pathfinder's Golarion setting has a lot of good Derro lore to work with. The most time consuming part is gonna be building all the Derro npc stats and balancing all the encounters. Pathfinder's Derros are also the closest to what their actually based on, which was a fascinating rabbit hole. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Sharpe_Shaver

Its one of those stories you read about and wonder why it hasnt been made into a movie. A down on his luck writer finds this schizophrenic guy who wrote this absolutely bizarre piece on his journey to an underground civilization. So the writer takes it, spruces it up, and publishes a really popular science fiction story. You could make it about the ethics of this writer using the paranoid delusions of this poor man to create award winning books. Like Rainman but for science fiction.

I started out playing DnD 5e years ago (almost a decade now I think) and I was quickly given the title of Forever DM. As I got deeper and deeper into the game and my understanding grew I heard some people online talk about 3.5e and how much better it was. I had started to get a bit dissatisfied with 5e and after reading the 3.5e Core Rulebook it was all over. Character creation was more in depth, way more content for players and DMs, every aspect of the game was better. I played 3.5e for several years until I heard about Pathfinder and things got even better. Pathfinder 1e is my absolute favorite ttrpg system. Its everything I want out of an rpg, especially as a DM. In 5e, whenever you try to make new monsters or adjust stats the DMG just tells you to guesstimate. In Pathfinder, everything is supported by math and easy to understand forumulas to help ensure balance. I can increase a monsters hit dice to make them more powerful, give them class levels, add a template (of which there are many), or change their stats around. I love Pathfinder, and if you're still playing 5e I suggest you get out now. Wizards of the Coast is a terrible company that abuses their customers (see OneDnD fiasco and the MtG Pinkerton Incident) and Paizo, the creators of Pathfinder, create more content for the game in one year than WoTC makes for 5e's entire lifetime. IDK if you can PM me, but if you can please do and ill provide you with all the basic Pathfinder books as pdfs. If you like it, then go buy the actual books. Oh also Paizos books dont cost 60 dollars each.

Theres a great theater near my house. Comfortable reclining and heated seats, plenty of leg space, nine screens and sounds. I watched The Batman there and I cannot imagine experiencing the movie in any other way.

Prices can still be pretty bad tho

I wouldnt describe it as niche, but Pathfinder 1st Edition.

StrahdVonZarovich,
@StrahdVonZarovich@beehaw.org avatar

DMing the Kingmaker adventure path for Pathfinder 1st Edition. Its been great fun, and I thankfully have the kind of players that like the Kingdom Building rules (with Legendary Game's Ultimate Rulership addition) and the overall vibe of ruling a kingdom. In a few more sessions, the party will enter the War of the River Kings and im planning to really kick them in the balls with it. The past few quests have been pretty solid victories for the party, so now im going to start the war with them on their back foot.

Although I can see the uses in making up terms to define who you're attracted to, I dont like the idea of putting yourself in a box. Ive had straight friends get really confused when they find themselves attracted to the same sex, and gay friends get really confused when they find themselves attracted to the opposite sex. When you "join" a sexuality you dont sign a contract or anything. A while ago I figured out I was bisexual. It was pretty great for a while, cause I was able to figure myself out and feel more free because of it. I didnt feel guilty for having certain thoughts. However, eventually I started to have some problems with the label itself. In this day and age, what even is a man or a woman? Ive found myself being attracted to people that dont identify as either gender. And isnt gender supposed to be a societal construct? In that case, why do we care so much about it in the case of define sexual identities? Im no philosopher or social scientist, so I may just be talking out of my own ass here so forgive my ignorance. Nowadays whenever some asks me my sexuality (which by the way is a very weird thing to ask people you just met in real life) I always say "on a case by case basis".

I LOVE Dredd!! Saw some clips of it on youtube which made me curious. I was blown away by the film, and I immediately showed it to all my friends. Great film. Ill try watching Road House, I remember seeing bits of it on tv years ago

Conan the Barbarian is one of my favorite movies ever. Ive watched it at least 7 times. No other fantasy film ive seen has managed to have the vibe of it.

Watched that with a bunch of friends one time. What a nuts but entertaining film. Bless John Malkovich for trying so hard in that movie lol

Although the entire game has kinda become a meme in recent years, I love The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Its a really charming game, and although people like to rag on it for being "generic lotr fantasy" I dont think thats a bad thing. Sometimes you just wanna play a run of the mill fantasy game and explore some dungeons. Plus it still had enough weird and bizarre things to keep it interesting, like the Shivering Isle dlc. I have fond memories of playing the game all the time back in school. One time I beat the entire Knights of the Nine dlc in a single sitting. It can be really clunky, weird, and downright broken but I still love it. Morrowind is still better tho

StrahdVonZarovich,
@StrahdVonZarovich@beehaw.org avatar

Do people really not like I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream? I've only heard and seen good things about the game.

StrahdVonZarovich,
@StrahdVonZarovich@beehaw.org avatar

I think its the fact that the game starts out weird, alien, and hostile to you (including the people of Morrowind) and the more you play the more you understand. By the time you finish the main quest, you completely understand this world and its secrets. You've mastered the setting.

Favorite Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episodes?

Been a big fan of Star Trek: Next Gen since I was a kid, and finally decided to start watching Deep Space Nine after hearing good things about it (and after finding a way to watch it for free). So far im loving it, and it does a lot of things better than Next Gen surprisingly! So what are your favorite episodes of Deep Space...

StrahdVonZarovich,
@StrahdVonZarovich@beehaw.org avatar

Reminds me of that quote. "Its not that its more relevant now. Its equally relevant, because nothing changes."

StrahdVonZarovich,
@StrahdVonZarovich@beehaw.org avatar

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Been watching it a lot recently and its really fun. I like having it on while I play Stellaris or Endless Space 2.

StrahdVonZarovich,
@StrahdVonZarovich@beehaw.org avatar

In my opinion, I would start with Next Gen. Season 1 was a real piece of crap, but it quickly got better after that. Ive heard a lot of people argue that you should skip it, but Season 1 establishes a lot of important characters and concepts that come back frequently. Heres a list of episodes that I think you should watch from Season 1. All of these episodes are important for what they establish in the world, and cause a couple are actually pretty good. Also you shouldnt skip Season 1, cause its fun to see the growth. Episode 1: Encounter at Farpoint Episode 9: Hide and Q Episode 12: Datalore Episode 14: 11001001 Episode 19: Heart of Glory Episode 20: The Arsenal of Freedom Episode 21: Symbiosis Episode 22: Skin of Evil Episode 25: The Neutral Zone

Season 2 has a lot of good episodes and a lot of bad episodes, and Season 3 on out is some of the best television in history. And the best part is, cause its serialized tv if you dont like an episode just skip it! But you should probably watch these^^

StrahdVonZarovich,
@StrahdVonZarovich@beehaw.org avatar

I know it seems weird to jump around, I just dont want you to experience Episode 2: The Naked Now.
