Hopefully soon the next time you all encounter a situation like that she instead asks, "How is any car cool if it has exhaust pipes?"

The NYT is no more about news than the Repubs are about governing.

brianstorms,
@brianstorms@mastodon.social avatar

@davew Yep. They are about creating, and pushing, and if not creating, certainly pushing, narratives--which is more like PR than news. They want a certain "story" out there, and they want the public to absorb it a certain way, believe it in a certain way, doubt alternative versions of or challenges to the story, and it's all bewildering and concerning. It's why I ended my subscription. I don't want narratives.

Most of the public doesn't seem to know the difference, and maybe, prefer narratives.

The 737 is everywhere in the world, with like 4,500 jets in active service across 500 airlines on every continent every day. Representing like 1/5 of all airline jets in service, worldwide.

The public does not know the cause of this one particular accident yet. It’s pointless to speculate.

Keep calm and carry on. Let investigators investigate.

I’ve been a Netflix customer for 22 long years. I miss their DVDs and Blu-rays. I will never see an ad on Netflix, and the closer they get to mandatory ads with a paid subscription (you’d have to be insane imho), the sooner I get to quitting their service. Ball is in your court Netflix. Whatcha gonna do.

You know how people do something slightly embarrassing in the coffee shop (or wherever) and then they say "now I can never go back there"?

I have worked in plenty of customer service jobs and let me reassure you that I never remembered anyone for any reason.

"My usual"? I have no idea who you are, sorry.

"I was just here an hour ago"? Nice for you, I did not retain that information.

"I've been waiting for my food for ages"? Hmm, it is possible that I was bad at this.

brianstorms,
@brianstorms@mastodon.social avatar

@tomw

There’s also the cognitive script that fast food workers develop over time where it’s kind of expected you the customer will say things in a certain order and the final question from the worker is “for here, to go?” and you tell them which, then they ring you up.

But if you march up to the counter and very crisply and clearly declare, “Hi, this order is TO GO,” and then give your order, when you’re done the worker will invariably ask, “for here, to go?” 🤷‍♂️

brianstorms,
@brianstorms@mastodon.social avatar

Yes, the microbes met and decided they needed more surfaces to reach humans so they have altered the minds of retail management everywhere and implanted the idea that it would be better if they moved to touch screens and of course the retail managers thought it was their idea and went with it.

The bugs run the show, man. 😂
