filcuk,

Inkscape has been a lifesaver many times, but it’s packed like a shit in a bag.

I can’t believe they still use the old file selection on windows without a path input box. I literally can not open a file from my network drive. It doesn’t even remember the last path!
The easiest workflow I found is to just copy projects to downloads for editing.

Besides other things.

filcuk,

I’ve switched to this from DuckDuckGo right during the downtime and, so far, it’s been working out great.

filcuk,

It’s so that you know it’s working hard

filcuk,

Not really. The reason plastic exploded in use is because it’s cheap, durable, lightweight, and really versatile.
Look around you and consider what it would take to manufacture some plastic objects in another material.
Disposable things like packaging would be perfect to decompose after their lifetime is over.

filcuk,

Can’t blow up the plane if it falls apart first

filcuk,

Well, they’d probably be called tooltips now

After announcing increased prices, Spotify to Pay Songwriters About $150 Million Less Next Year (www.billboard.com)

When Bloomberg reported that Spotify would be upping the cost of its premium subscription from $9.99 to $10.99, and including 15 hours of audiobooks per month in the U.S., the change sounded like a win for songwriters and publishers. Higher subscription prices typically equate to a bump in U.S. mechanical royalties — but not...

filcuk,

I’ve tried all the popular alternatives, and not one was better.
Theoretically, buying the songs without DRM felt best, but having enjoyed nearly 6,5K different artists on Spotify so far, that won’t really work.
Unfortunately, as an average consumer, that means I’m sticking with Spotify for now.

filcuk,

They used their customers to fight their publisher. It worked out this time. Good on them, if you ask me. Game studios get messed about far too often.

filcuk,

CDs are apparently some of the most resilient storage media commonly found today.
DVDs (and presumably BluRays) less so due to the higher data density. Rewritable less again, as those use a metal alloy for the bumps and ridges.

filcuk,

Can’t unsee! I wonder if it’s ai generated?

Windows 11 Start menu ads are now rolling out to everyone (www.theverge.com)

Microsoft is starting to enable ads inside the Start menu on Windows 11 for all users. After testing these briefly with Windows Insiders earlier this month, Microsoft has started to distribute update KB5036980 to Windows 11 users this week, which includes “recommendations” for apps from the Microsoft Store in the Start menu....

filcuk,

You pay for the privilege of getting ads beamed directly to your desktop

filcuk,

A choice for the rich people to make.

filcuk,

From the readme

this repository contains the necessary code for R# scripting to decode the image data on the Voyager Golden Record.

filcuk,

Nothing to break up monotonous office day like looking out a window to see a coworker running for their life

filcuk,

There’s an android version too, for any non-apple tableteers.

filcuk,

There are a plethora of cable earphones.
I don’t understand why people complain about wireless.
You’re not the target demographic.

filcuk,

Github, Bitwarden itself, Cloudflare, Microsoft

filcuk,

It’s also an incredible coincidence (or otherwise, depending on your beliefs) how the distance and size of the two bodies matches perfectly for the total eclipse to be a thing at all.

filcuk,

There often aren’t spare funds to develop something proper.

filcuk,

That’s unlikely. Stainless steel is not even that strongly magnetic. The amount that’d have to be in the chocolate would cause the fabric to close within a few months for all the machines having been ground to dust.

I made wanderer - a self-hosted trail and GPS track database (lemmy.world)

Over the last two months, I developed wanderer. It is a self-hosted alternative to sites like alltrails.com or in other words a self-hosted trail database. It started out more as a small hobby project to teach myself some new technologies but in the end, I decided to develop it into a fully-fledged application....

filcuk,

Database is rarely, if ever bundled into the app container, unless it’s SQLite.
