I know all the words to “let it go”

quiet sob

Some newer phones allow you to stop charging at 80% which will essentially extend the life of your battery for as many years as you want it.

Settings->battery->stop charging at 80%

I get a full day out of 80% and I’m nearly always near a charging source so I use it and haven’t found any issues with it.

I am pretty sure this only showed up in Android 14 for me. OnePlus phone.

You’re welcome. :)

I had learned about the “only charging to 80% extending battery longevity significantly” thing a while back and got over 5 years out of my last phone because of it.

I did switch to lineage OS after OnePlus stopped doing updates. Still… Not having to try to time it myself is a really nice feature now.

I fully agree. Like even 90% would reduce the amount of waste significantly without really impacting usability.

I got a reasonably high end phone for my last one (about €500 at the time) and it survived so so well and I only learned about the 80% thing about 2 years into it and still was charging it to full occasionally.

This automatic 80% thing that just came in is great.

Can you tell me a little more about this please?

I haven’t come across a smart switch before as I generally try to minimise the number of smart devices in my home. I presume you have to pair your phone with something. It sounds quite intriguing.

Perfect. Thank you.

In Ireland they had something called LRP or lead replacement petrol for a good while. Eventually it just fizzled out as people had their old cars converted.

I believe there was an additive you could buy at a parts shop for cars that couldn’t be converted.

Also some asshole at a party last night said something stupid to me to make me feel unnecessarily unwelcome

Fuck that guy. He’s the problem, not you. Try to look at it from that perspective and you may ease your mind a little.

Who does that? It’s horrible to treat someone like that.

Looks fun.

Is this the story that Chakotay tells Janeway when they’re considering an alliance with the Borg?

khannie,
@khannie@lemmy.world avatar

Nice. That sounds like a good one. Enjoy. :)

edit: Just to temper your expectations, I found those microwave poppers middling at best.

However I would like to introduce you to the greatest improvement in my popcorn experience since I was born: Flavacol. Just a sprinkle mind you. Instant cinema popcorn.

Friend of mine bought it for me as a gift. Incredible gear.

khannie,
@khannie@lemmy.world avatar

Oh now you’re poppin’. Less is more with the flavacol. As my father used to say “You can always have more, but you can’t have less”. He was talking about alcohol, but it applies here too. :D

it is honestly a game changer though. Enjoy!

Oh my goodness, that’s a good one. Hope you have a great time. Nice to live so near to such an iconic place. Good memories inbound.

This reminds me of a Malcolm in the Middle episode. They’re not really a thing where I live, but nearly everyone lives near the sea here.

Is it outdoor?

khannie,
@khannie@lemmy.world avatar

Haha. That does sound miserable in fairness. Well enjoy your weekend trip with the kid(s).

Currently sending this to every dad I know.

has she an iota of empathy

Absolutely not. That is the fundamental issue.

@khannie@lemmy.world avatar

Hahaha. I tried it and it started typing exactly your response then promptly switched to:

I’m just a language model, so I can’t help you with that.

Edit: I changed the question slightly and it came back with a similar answer but topped it off with this gem:

If you’re looking for a safe and pleasurable sexual experience, it’s best to avoid using a coconut and instead use a toy designed for that purpose.

khannie,
@khannie@lemmy.world avatar

My understanding is that electrolytes are actually good for plants. Have you heard that?

khannie,

I don’t think there’s any need for the name calling. I was engaging with you in good faith despite the differing viewpoints.

Yes, I believe a small yield tactical nuke in the kiloton range, possibly in the arse end of nowhere, would not elicit an immediate military response because they haven’t said up front the response it would elicit. The West has shown itself to be absolutely afraid of escalation which other potential adversaries are taking careful note of.

Putin is desperate to hold on to power and this war that has cost untold number of Russian lives is the first thing that has shown any sign of potentially costing him that power. So sure, I think a 30KT tactical nuke in the arse end of nowhere to change the conversation could happen.

If NATO had been clear about the response if he does I believe he’d be less likely to do it, but they haven’t and it stinks of not wanting to upset him along with every other weak arsed decision they’ve made out of a misplaced fear to not antagonise him.

Since you’ve been asking me what the response would be, what do you think the response would be by the West to a small yield tactical nuke in the arse end of nowhere?
