I asked for a "healing" TV experience, and Schitt's Creek is exactly that... in that it started with an acute injury to my sensibilities and then season by season has begun to soothe them. Finishing up season 4 now.

Sometimes you have to feel awful before you really appreciate feeling good. Schitt's Creek is just that odd show that inflicts the awful first.

I'll allow it, because it's a good-hearted show in the end. But I can see why softhearted people wouldn't make it past episode 3.

kmiddelburg,
@kmiddelburg@wandering.shop avatar

@mishellbaker @Vidyala the friend who got me hooked made me promise to watch four episodes, no matter what, before I started.

That was a good move, as I had to push through. And that promise made a difference!

But it was absolutely worth it. The rest of the show earns those first three episodes.

So glad you found it, and are enjoying it!

How does it work?

Post a photo that captures a beautiful silent moment, a moment of peace. There are no rules about what kind of photo - indoors, outdoors, people, landscape- anything is welcome, as long as it captures that moment of peace!

Add NO TEXT to your post except the hashtag

Add AltText to describe your photo for those who need it!

Then follow the hashtag on your own feed, and sit back to enjoy the beautiful meditative effect in your feed!

Finished Baldur’s Gate 3!
…and immediately rolled up a new character to start again.
What a game!

kmiddelburg,
@kmiddelburg@wandering.shop avatar

@mishellbaker The only way I could finish Act 3 was by giving up on a number of story lines and just saying, yep, moving on now — will catch that subplot next time through. Otherwise I’d still be shopping in Sorcerous Sundries 😉

kmiddelburg,
@kmiddelburg@wandering.shop avatar

@mishellbaker I have never played an RPG where I turned around and re-started a run immediately like this. I think I’m going to be playing this game for the next five years, easily! And I played original BG 1 and 2, Neverwinter Nights, etc., Dragon Age Origins, and loved them…but the depth of story here and the freedom you feel in this game is just completely unique. AMAZING.

Recommendations for well-written, multi-season non-anime TV series with healing, uplifting vibes? From any era - just let me know where it can be streamed.

(Animated potentially okay if it doesn't have the 'anime look,' which for whatever reason I'm allergic to. Disney and first season Dragon Prince are good examples of animated things my eyeballs like.)

kmiddelburg,
@kmiddelburg@wandering.shop avatar

@mishellbaker

Ted Lasso.

Schitt's Creek (though for me, I had to get through the first four episodes -- they are 30 minutes -- but then found it quite uplifting.)

I've heard great things about All Things Great and Small but haven't seen it myself -- man becomes vet in small town in England, time period 1920s? 30s?

The Good Place.

This one's a stretch but Lucifer. I'm a sucker for someone trying to parse what it means to be human and then learning how to live up to it...

kmiddelburg,
@kmiddelburg@wandering.shop avatar

@mishellbaker Enjoy! If something else pops to mind I'll add it to the list.

Do you have a preference as far as genre -- mystery, comedy, detective, monster-of-the week, fantasy, sci-fi... ?

Borrowing a brilliant Birthday idea from @mishellbaker

Today’s the beginning of my 49th journey around the sun.

As a gift, please tell me in wonderful detail about something that brings you joy!

Feel free to boost!

As a gift for me this birthday weekend:

Tell me in as many words as you can about something you wholeheartedly, unreservedly love and/or enjoy. Paint me a picture. Leave out any apologies, buts, or "in spite of"s. Just love the thing out loud, and let me love it with you.

kmiddelburg,
@kmiddelburg@wandering.shop avatar

@mishellbaker hey, we share a birthday weekend! This is so beautiful I may borrow the idea from you!

I LOVE musicals. I love the idea that when an emotion is too big for speech, we sing - when it’s too big for singing, we dance. I love perfect synchronicity in movement, formations shimmering across the stage. I love harmony, and frozen tableaus, and heart-enrapturing torch songs, and sequins and sizzle and spectacle and somehow in the middle of all that razzle-dazzle pure, incandescent TRUTH <3

kmiddelburg,
@kmiddelburg@wandering.shop avatar

@mishellbaker yes! One of my favorite things about teaching a Musical Theater class is watching students discover and fall in love with musicals themselves. It’s fantastic! ❤️❤️❤️

If you haven’t already met the genius of Sir Terry Pratchett, spend the best 18 dollars of your life and get this .

Don’t start at the beginning of the series; I advise “Guards, Guards” or “Thief of Time” or “Small Gods” as excellent starting points.

Prepare to laugh your ass off - and to reflect on the absurdity of the world!

These books didn’t just entertain me — they taught me how to be a better human being. I want that for you!

There is something nice about the vintage stylish flourishes on my PO box. Whenever I'm in a new US city and pass a post office I try to pop in and check out what their interior decor and PO boxes look like. The modern ones are usually plain and boring, but older post offices have some cool retro styles.

kmiddelburg,
@kmiddelburg@wandering.shop avatar

@ethanschoonover this is exactly what my childhood PO Box looked like. I remember my mom sending me to the post office with the key. One of my first “grown up” chores.

Hi Fedizens,

Just your regular reminder that the hashtag works best when your photo is accompanied only by the words .

If we stick to this rule, adding no other text to the post, our feed becomes a lovely, meditative, peaceful experience…moments of silence and joy, cascading.

Of course, please ALWAYS use AltText to allow everyone to experience the wonder of your image.

Come to the experience and bring your beautiful moments, quietly, to share!

Question for you:

What are some things you enjoy about winter?

kmiddelburg,
@kmiddelburg@wandering.shop avatar

@mishellbaker

warm, cozy clothing like flannel pajamas and wool sweaters

Stew, oven baked dishes, and seasonal spiced things like gingerbread, mince pies; mulled wine

Candles, fireplaces, fairy lights, even my “fake” tv fireplace

Traditions, especially those that include music

Watching the people in my adopted land (NL) nearly explode with glee if it gets cold enough that they can go ice skating on all the canals, ponds, ditches…including photo from the last time that happened…

Giving myself permission to accomplish very little next week.

If you need permission for same, consider it given!

These are the dark days of winter. But remember the light is around the corner.

Is there anyone who has advice for a gaming mouse that would work with a MacBookPro? My Baldur’s Gate 3 experience is being severely hampered by the Magic Mouse.

I realize this is a VERY specific question for a tiny, tiny group of users…so boosts are appreciated.

Thanks!

Well, I finally saw Barbie.

I was not ready.

I laughed, I cried.

Every little bit was so well-written.

(“I’m going to play my guitar at you.” 😉)

And…
I have NEVER felt so seen by a work of art as I did by America Ferrera’s monologue. I bawled like a baby.

in short; I loved it and recommend to all and sundry.

(Also can Greta Gerwig direct the next James Bond movie? Please?)

You know, ever since I was a child, I have struggled with the following:

There is enough.

Enough food, enough money, enough time, enough housing, enough necessary medical care. Everyone could have enough.

But somehow, the system is set up so that a tiny amount have nearly all, and others nothing.

As a result of which, people die. Every day.

It still doesn’t make sense.

It’s wrong, right? This has to be wrong.
