IRC is still a thing, lots of devs use it.

The same reason they don’t lower prices over all so that people buy more. Someone has run the numbers and they make more money this way. That is always going to be the answer.

It shows.

Can I get an “exempt from government health care” tax credit? Cut up my OHIP card and put a DNR tattoo on my chest. I could use the money for groceries.

If ford built an electric version of the 2005-2010 Ranger I would buy it today. It’s not even a new idea, they made electric Rangers around 2000 but they had lead acid batteries so the range was only 150km.

I want a PRACTICAL pickup, not a god damned $61K, 5 seat, electric minivan with 4 foot trunk.

If you want to get murdered by an SUV or pickup. There are very few places in Canada where you can safely commute by bike.

nik282000,

Totally, you can fit a hell of a lot more sheet material into a cargo van than a modern pickup. Even minivans with fold down seats have more cargo space than a Ram with 4x5.5 box.

Whoa! That’s a good find. I bought a B2300 a few years ago, just rolled over to 200,000km though.

Why Canadians can’t bike in the winter (but Finnish people can)

As long as they set up factory forests to supply the lumber, go nuts. Construction isn’t a huge carbon sink but it doesn’t hurt to move to a carbon negative material.

China tried to meddle in the last two Canadian elections but the results were not impacted, Justin Trudeau (www.reuters.com)

China tried to meddle in the last two Canadian elections but the results were not impacted and it was “improbable” Beijing preferred any one party over another, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told an official probe on Wednesday. In sworn testimony before a commission conducting a public inquiry into alleged foreign...

There were serious attempts to rig the election but it didn’t work

Oil and meat good, electricity and plants bad. Poilievre told me so.

Does anyone get to choose their work schedule? Particularly as a young adult? You and I work when and for as long as we are told until we retire (ha) or die.

Maybe there should be laws in place to protect people from this kind of bullshit.

Freeland has already said she would honour the new fiscal guardrails that were announced in the fall, including keeping the federal deficit below $40.1 billion.

How about not handing 2 Billion over to the Crypto AI bros?

aside from necessities, we have a choice in whether we buy from the big corporations

Do you have a non-corp choice in grocery stores in your area? Do you have a choice in electricity provider, natural gas, water, ISP? Any choice you think you have is a marketing tool, even farmers markets have people re-selling grocery store produce as “locally sourced”.

In 2023 the average household income was 75K and the average home price was 715k. >9x

In 1999 the average household income was 57K and the average home price was 229k. ~4x

Even if you make 100K you are still just doing “ok” in Canada because the value of your work has been cut by more than half in the past 20 years.

That’s a reno not a new build. Renos can charge like crazy because you’re a captive audience, unless you move your only option is them and they set the price.

In new construction the faster and cheaper it goes up the more profit they make per unit.

nik282000,
@nik282000@lemmy.ca avatar

What a cock. There are a thousand things more important than subsidizing “AI” horse shit. It’s making money all on its own.

nik282000,
@nik282000@lemmy.ca avatar

The AI bros are just the Crypto Bros reusing their hoard of GPUs.

Invest in crypto AI and watch those gainz!

nik282000,
@nik282000@lemmy.ca avatar

It’s the “out of work crypto-bros with piles of GPUs” sector.

It 100% is theft when those taxes go into the pockets of tech-bros instead of healthcare or education.

“Making money” in the same way that every tech fad makes money. There will be legit applications but it wont be the world shaking boom that the news makes it out to be.
