I'm sorry but if you're a Republican finally criticizing the crazy extremists in your party, but you've waited until you're out of office or leaving office, you're not a hero, you're a coward.

Another in a growing series of crises for major urban areas around the world, this time Mexico City, which is facing its own "Day Zero" threat when parts of the city may lose all access to water.

I published three peer-reviewed journal articles last year with Ukrainian coauthors about the impacts of the Russia-Ukraine war on systems.
For me, it's a critical case study of the role of water and violence.
For my Ukrainian colleagues it's much more real and personal. At least one of them has a son who's been fighting with the army for two years.

I'm sad that the owl died.

But I'll be angry if the New York Times gives it bigger play than 's incredibly racist speech tonight.

Sure enough in my app this morning, there's a top article on and I see zero mention of 's racist rant.

Alexander Smirnov, the ex-FBI informant charged with lying about the Bidens' dealings in Ukraine and helping Putin subvert our democracy, has been re-arrested.
This may at least protect him from accidentally falling out a window.

Wonderful Sierra Magazine review of "The Three Ages of Water..."

"If there’s anything about water that’s not covered in Gleick’s book, it’s probably not worth knowing. From water’s origins following the Big Bang to its essential role in the development of life on Earth, the rise of human civilization, religion, public health, the legal system, and technology, to eminently workable ways of safeguarding this precious resource, it’s all contained in this magisterial read"

With the slight exception of San Luis reservoir, every major reservoir in California is at or above average in terms of water storage for this time of year. This augurs well for a decent water year in California.

petergleick,
@petergleick@fediscience.org avatar

@InfoMgmtExec Are you lecturing me, with nasty hashtags, about how to think about California water? That would merit a block.
Winter reservoir levels in California are important measures for determining the following spring, summer, and fall water deliveries for cities and farms. This will absolutely be, as I said, a "decent water year for California."

I'm sorry, but have top government officials always been this dangerously stupid and incompetent or is this a new thing? Florida's health officials will get children killed.

Remember, voting for Biden also means voting for the experienced, talented, ethical team he's brought to Washington.

Do you remember the massively incompetent, corrupt, and anti-government cronies and thugs Trump brought the first time around? And how many of them are now in jail?

How ironic is it that Reagan supposedly "won" the Cold War (false, but that's the GOP narrative) only to have the current GOP surrender the country to the Russians today.

Nothing to see here. Just the Washington Post reporting on Trump and his allies planning martial law, prison camps, and the use of the military for rounding up undesirables. But sure, both sides the coming election.

If embryos in Alabama are now legally children, doesn't that mean 17-year-olds are actually 18 years old and can vote?
And 61-year-olds are eligible for social security?

I've just gotten what must be the 20th notice in the mail over the years that major aspects of my personal information have been leaked in yet another data breach at one of the many places that have it but seems incapable of protecting it.
Feeling pretty helpless about this.

Nothing more fun than tracking down 's latest grift. For his sneakers, he's getting a fee paid to CIC Ventures, which he owns, by 45Footwear LLC, which is purportedly the shoe manufacturer. That is based in Sheridan Wyoming, in this rundown house in a grimy shopping mall.

@petergleick@fediscience.org avatar

@GottaLaff Still need to get to the heart of the question of where the shoes are actually manufactured.
