Incest is always bad even amongst computers and data sets

Exactly, due to metas nearly unlimited funding they can afford extra server strain for exclusive features that you'll miss out unless you're on threads

Didn't Willie Nelson smoke weed on the roof with the presidents son lol

Pride Month wrapping up, have you seen any company or organisation do anything remotely meaningful?

So, I will make no secret that I'm rolling my eyes at all of that marketing stuff that goes up every year. But I've been thinking, it doesn't have to be so superficial and pointless. Maybe there's some rare exception out there that took the opportunity to say or do something meaningful....

Why are we still pretending like brand visibility isn't important. Yes it's pandering to make you want to spend money, yes it's all "virtue signalling" bullshit - but it still goes to show they value and want our business. Many brands decided not to do anything remotely showing support for us this year and that should be worrying, yes they didn't do anything in the first place and obviously didn't have our back, but they still showed some form of representation for us and helped push us into the public so we don't have to hide. It's so ridiculous seeing young queer anticapitalists actively shit on the only goodwill rep we had in mainstream venues. They might not have meant anything to you but they sure as hell were good rep for normalization more than just bitching about how much you hate it on the internet.

Of course they're trying to stay in Reddit's good side, we already saw what happened with the Apollo dev - one small joke and they freaked out. I'd be walking on eggshells too

Wow, I should've bought some popcorn shares. Draaamaaaa!

I probably should avoid the Fediverse for today. :P

@kjr probably the secret talks meta had with fediverse instance admins

No way it's not Lemmy.world, once all the normies (for lack of a better term) learn about it they'll go swarming. It's already growing fast

Denali,
Denali avatar

Exactly, the easy access and low barrier of entry (like reddit, twitter, etc.) make it perfect to populate. That's kind of why some of the instances need signups right, to keep out the riff riff?

Picking an instance

After spending a few days learning about lemmy and other fediverse websites, I was curious about people's processes for picking a server that is right for them. I've seen most posts say to pick one that is not too big or small and that has similar interests as yourself. But if we are all mostly federated, doesn't it make the...

Just use kbin it's way better

Denali,
Denali avatar

Kbin is really only one instance (kbin.social - the only alternatives are alt language instances, I think?) so just use kbin social because it's 100% unfettered access then sub to what you want and block what you don't. It's just like Reddit/Twitter and it's nice not having head mods rule what you can and can't see

Denali,
Denali avatar

It's just whatever vanity url you want then, no? Just like an email service. They're not all that different, but no one want to be a (@)yahoo.com - same shit

Denali,
Denali avatar

Sick, I didn't know that thanks. They all still seem to be mostly vanity urls and not moderation like beehaw though

I stopped supporting Spotify with my money because it hands so much of it to Joe Rogan. What about you? (I switched to Deezer.)

@augieray if you're serious it's time to invest in hard drives and downloading everything and just running a music server (ie. Plex)

arda, to kbin
@arda@micro.arda.pw avatar

I'm planning to self-host a Reddit like instance for myself, but I'm between Lemmy and kbin . Essentially I want to host my own data, and jump into discussions from other communities.

With a limited search results, people praise for , and bash developers about their world and political views, however Lemmy is written with , and Kbin with .

I just want to migrate to what people will be using to.

So, which solution would you prefer?

Denali,
Denali avatar

@arda Go kbin, it's a combination of all the fediverse pretty much, I'm on it currently viewing mastodon blogs because there's a whole section for them specifically. It's literally just a convenient aggregation of Lemmy, Mastodon, and anything else in between. I think of all the sites popping up people will be using, kbin has a good shot at being the defacto choice just because it handles almost everything

Denali,
Denali avatar

I'm sure we'd live somehow

Denali,
Denali avatar

They explicitly state that they're making a safe space in their TOS thing, no?

Denali,
Denali avatar

Yes? That's explicitly the purpose. I get it's shitty but it's pretty stupid to go to a place where they outright tell you they're going to censor you and then get mad that they do it

Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is the best game of all time and changes gameplay (via powerups) in random combination that can make a god run or a really shit one. Highly recommend it

Somebody really needs to start a clothing shop for men that guarantees to keep items in stock indefinitely. None of this 'item is discontinued', 'oh red isn't in fashion this year', 'we continually update our range' etc. I just want to buy the same item when the current one wears out without having to think about whether the alternatives will fit, look right etc.

@Rayspekt This seems like a bad business idea
