Where are the warnings? If they’re in some particular magazine that maybe not every user is subscribed to, then this is a bad practice.

Cool, and I respect that. And I respect Ernest for what he does and he doesn’t owe anyone anything at all. But if you open source a thing and then almost completely ignore your user base, it’s just a bit disappointing.

I’m not mad. Just disappointed.

I kid. Everyone has their own tastes and flavour preferences. I’m a fan of the book and also think Villeneuve did a pretty bang up job with Part One.

All sci fi ages poorly, some ages more poorly. Dune has the advantage of being a universe where they fought a war with computers, thus they’ve more or less been banned. This helps them avoid references to aged tech like most sci fi, giving it a bit of a reprieve there. If you read novels that were contemporary with it, you’ll find a lot of rooms full of tapes for computer systems, and similar. But perhaps that is more your style.

Personally, I dislike “psi” powers in my sci fi. And Dune, like many others in its era, is obsessed with this notion that “you only use 10% of your brain… imagine what you could do it you unlocked more!?” Modern neuroscience has completely pooh-poohed the idea, but if you read anything classic sci fi, you need to tolerate it. In the case of Dune, I tolerate it because the world building is worth it.

cm0002,

I do, for a multitude of reasons

  • Easier management of family computers
  • an authoritative source for Authentik SSO
  • Learning experience, I’m also heavy Linux, but I try to maintain an OS agnostic philosophy with my skill set so I can have options in my career
  • I was bored
  • Again, since I like to maintain an OS agnostic philosophy I have a healthy mix of Windows, Linux and MacOS devices, and you CAN in fact join Linux (w/ SSSD) and MacOS to a domain too

In addition to what others have said with roaming profiles and such:

DO NOT SET YOUR AD DOMAIN AS THE SAME DOMAIN OF A WEB ADDRESS YOU USE

I…er…someone… Found themselves in this situation and have been in a mess since lmao

No idea what this song name is Infected Mushroom - תרקוד לנצח. It's in Hebrew I believe. No idea what it's about, but I think it sounds great. Also Leonard Dembo - Mutadzi Ngaaregererwe. It's just super chill. It's in an African language, can't remember which.

Russia: Here’s a suitcase full of money

US: Oh, I love those! Never mind, do whatever you want

Rotary Action SMG - MGD PM9 (1940s-50s) (lemmy.world)

The PM9 uses a delayed blowback action, and the delaying is done by a rotating flywheel-type block and clock spring. The bolt and flywheel act somewhat like the piston and crank in an engine. As the bolt (piston) moved rearward in a straight line, it forces the flywheel (crank) to rotate because the two are connected. In the...

Supreme Court to Hear Momentous Case on Whether Trump Can Hold Office (www.nytimes.com)

The case turns on the meaning of Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, ratified after the Civil War, which bars those who had taken an oath “to support the Constitution of the United States” from holding office if they then “shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies...

Of course they’re gonna say yes. They don’t need any death threats from a bunch of lunatics, there are too many billionaire funded luxury vacations to be had. They don’t have time for such nonsense.

People will have forgotten about it a few weeks after it's released, and nothing will happen to anyone in the report. "Justice" is dead, unless you're a commoner.

Unrelated to the post and discussion at hand, I just want to point out that I enjoy finding a fellow regex scholar in the wild.

neidu,

Why is everything in consumer / American life so fucking shitty now - and companies literally just say 'oh bc profit margins' and we're now expected to swallow that and sympathize?

like I went to taco bell and they didn’t even have napkins out. they had the other stuff just no napkins, I assume because some fucking ghoul noticed people liked taking them for their cars so now we just don’t get napkins! so they can save $100 per quarter rather than provide the barest minimum quality of life features.

it's not the big things that send most people over the edge, it's a combination of all the little things that add up until boom
