anyone writing a story set in the distant future please make NYT the dominant video game company lol

i mean nintendo did start out as a playing card manufacturer, nokia was originally a paper pulp mill, etc.

in terms of corporate expenses for legal penalties that’s barely a disinterested-grunt-from-parent-in-other-room, let alone a wrist slap

Same. I love fish and I’m always self conscious when I eat it at work

though I don’t eat much fish these days because it’s expensive and bad for the environment anyway…

there is one technically “nAtUrAL” antiperspirant that does work, alum (any of several naturally occurring aluminum salt minerals)

problem is they don’t work as well as synthetic aluminum chlorohydrates (the most common active ingredient in commercial antiperspirants), mainly cuz they’re not terribly soluble in water so it’s hard to get a good amount of it on your pits by just wetting the alum rock and rubbing it on (most common application method)

as someone who hates scented anything as well as plastic packaging and increasing antiperspirant prices in the US (my two go-to brands doubled in price in the last 4 years), i’ve been nerding around with both alum rocks and the only consumer available aluminum chlorohydrate i could find

problem is when i run out i don’t usually have time to mix up more and usually just sigh and buy some overpriced Ban Unscented Roll-On

also remember kids, antiperspirant is NOT the same as deodorant, which ought to be called Pit Perfume because it usually doesn’t stop sweat or inhibit the growth of B.O.-causing skin bacteria.

yeah, there’s a lot of debate on it. at the end of the day one person reducing consumption makes no difference, only lots of people which is hard to coordinate

i think it would be wiser to force farming and fishery companies to stop making ecologically damaging decisions but that is also hard to do 🫠

from a purely selfish standpoint maybe it’s better to enjoy fish while we still can, because there might not be any fish someday no matter what we (as individuals) do…

TVs are cheap now because viewers are the product. From what I’ve heard, “dumb” TVs and other high end displays (PC monitors, TVs designed for business and education use, medical imaging displays, etc.) are still rather expensive

people still do that, and they take their kids along to teach them

I'm Heading to Phoenix Can Anyone Recommend Anything Cool To Check Out While I'm There?

I’m heading to Phoenix, AZ next week to visit family and I was just curious if any locals would be able to recommend me anything cool to check out. I am already planning on trying to hit the end of spring training but don’t have any other plans. I enjoy good food, art, geeky things like comic and games, and am also a LGBT...

The aquarium also has a butterfly garden. I’m scared of butterflies and had a horrible time which I think means it’s awesome for normal people

Why do we like some of things and dislike others?
Why do some people like video games, or snowboarding, or dancing, or doing theater, or collecting rocks, or all sorts of different things, and some don’t?

this post is like a more intellectual version of the opening speech in Rubber

it’s true though, our pattern-seeking brains get us hung up on the idea there has to be a purpose for everything but we forget we’re the ones defining and assigning “purpose”
