Any ideas how a 50 times more popular lemmy could defend against this? The only reason it’s not poisoning lemmy right now is because it’s to small for them to care… What will happen if we gt big enough to care about?

Boinkage, in This from Hacker News: AI Is Poisoning Reddit to Promote Products and Game Google With 'Parasite SEO

Is this about menopause?

leftylibra, in Podcasts?

What are you looking for? There’s a bunch of obgyn’s out there offering advice. There’s a good podcast with the authors of Estrogen Matters that’s worthwhile.

Jos,

Thanks. I’ll check it out. Not sure what I am looking for I was curious what others like. I have listened to “Hit play not pause” but I don’t connect with her well.

Jos, in This place still alive?

Glad to see people are still here. Not being alone in this is a huge help. I don’t want to go back to Reddit.

leftylibra,

Yeah we tried to get a bunch of us over from reddit, and it was difficult…change is hard sometimes. <sigh>

Jos,

Yeah unfortunately.

ChaosCoati, in This place still alive?

I’d like that too. 2 years ago it’s like the wheels fell off. I’m in the peri age range but going circles with my doctor currently who seems to be in the “all women go thru it, it’s normal” camp. Which is frustrating. I’ve also been testing out alternative treatments and have found some that do seem to be making things better.

Jos,

Funny because I guarantee you that any man experiencing this would die instantly. “It’s normal” ha! Can you share some tools and tips that work for you?

ChaosCoati,
@ChaosCoati@midwest.social avatar

The worst is I’ve been her patient for 10+ years so she should know I don’t come in unless it’s something I can’t manage on my own.

Sleep: I take 1000mg magnesium (the glycinate kind) in the evening. That plus sleep headphones - basically a headband with little speakers in it - help me fall asleep around 10 or 11 most nights. Before that I would be lucky if I could fall asleep before 2 am.

Hot flashes & night sweats: I take 4mg Siberian rhubarb root. It doesn’t make them go away completely but I do have them less often.

I’ve become very forgetful, so now I rely a ton on my phone and our smart home assistant. For example, I created a routine where, when I say “I started the laundry,” our home assistant creates a reminder for a hour later to tell me to put the wash into the dryer.

What have you found that helps?

Jos,

Thanks for that. I take magnesium (same one) at night as well. I started to get light Charlie horse in my legs on and off … luckily not every night and if I just put my leg on the ground it’s over quickly but it wakes me up. Sleep is a top priority for me since last spring (since I read Matt Walker’s book - highly recommend that to everybody now). I got that dialed in as perfectly as I can. Still some nights are crap but I am a good napper and having consistent good nights sleep helps immensely.

I don’t think I am at hot flashes (yet?). I do get hot at night when my feet are covered but that’s something I deal with since I am a kid. I am almost leaning towards cold flashes (is that a thing?) sometimes I randomly get super cold and shivering. One thing I did is buy Linen bed sheets. Mostly because I am expecting hot flashes at some point but also because I love linen. Super amazing year round actually. Also stocking up on linen clothes, bathrobe, kaftans for summer at home, etc. Big fan and finally the last three years or so trendy again. Linen lasts forever if you treat it well and nothing better in summer - hot flashes or not!

I think I am getting more forgetful as well but I am stubbornly demanding of my brain. I will not bow down to this (yet?) as I think a lot of it is also overload at the moment. Pretty stressful at work with a project and I am convinced this plays into it. But yeah the reminder app on the iPhone is pure gold. So are timers!

I am playing around with rhodiola as a supplement right now. It seems to help with energy and especially more power or else fatigue during workouts. I also ordered Ashwagandha and Maca now.

Overall I try to eat lots of veg and fruit, a bunch more protein and as high of a variety of food as I can. Especially with veg and fruit. And move move move. At least 8k steps a day and when I am home (~3-4 days per week) at least 30 minutes workout. And again variety there. Strength, rowing, HIIT, yoga. I need to start pushing myself harder again. These peri episodes are really messing with my (fairly new) love of working out. And it pisses me off!!

Jos,

And since this wasn’t long enough lol: I forgot to mention 5g creatine / day and vitamin C.

leftylibra,

If you haven’t yet, have a read through our Menopause Wiki, it’s updated all the time…just yesterday in fact to add links to more recent studies and expand on the definition of perimenopause (early and late stage). There’s also things you can do to help mitigate symptoms, but it sounds like you’re already doing a pretty good job of that!

Jos,

Oh I forgot about that! I’ll read through it for sure.

Tenoteve,

Interesting how “all man go through it” will lead to finding a relieve or treatment

ChaosCoati,
@ChaosCoati@midwest.social avatar

So true. My doctor is a woman so I’d expect more understanding. I was talking with a friend about it though, and she felt female doctors can be less sympathetic if their own experience wasn’t bad.

Which makes sense to me, maybe she has minimal symptoms and that makes her think I’m making a mountain out of a mole hill. Although I’ve been her patient for 10+ years so she should know that’s not me.

HA! I can rant for hours about it. Everything seems to not work right anymore for years.

Jos,

That’s scary that it takes that long 😳

mishellaneous,
@mishellaneous@lemmy.world avatar

I guess everyone is different, but I "officially " hit menopause yesterday… Yes years… 😵‍💫

Jos,

Congrats I guess?! Hopefully that’s the end of that madness for you

mishellaneous,
@mishellaneous@lemmy.world avatar

Hahaha Thank you I think? I’m finding varying reports, but tbh I’m not expecting too much! (Something about not being disappointed!) The changes to my body temperature and hot flushes have felt extreme… So. Much. Sweating. (& I’m in the southern hemisphere where the weather is getting colder, but not me 🥵 ha!)

Jos,

One can hope!! But I get that. I would keep my expectations low as well. 😞

leftylibra,

Congrats!

I’m late to the party but here is my solution to getting the fuzzy lines off my skin from the patches- rubbing alcohol.

A little on a cotton ball or paper towel and it comes off fairly easily.

@Zerlyna@lemmy.world avatar

How was it? Have you finished?

bowreality,

I have. I like most of it. I think there is a ton to learn and she gives plenty of options and solutions for issues. I haven’t hit most of them yet but I bet I will. It’s definitely more for athletes and especially endurance athletes but enough for normal women in there.

paysrenttobirds, in Next Level by Stacy Sims

Just bought it, I’ll let you know :)

bowreality,

Please do. Would love to chat about it

leftylibra, in Testosterone 3 month update

We always hear about voice deepening, more facial hair, or hair loss, which I think scares people off, but have you noticed anything different with muscle mass (like maintaining what you have, or building more)? Or feeling more energized?

It’s great to know it’s helping with libido!

unexplaineditem,
@unexplaineditem@lemmy.world avatar

No literally the only change is with my libido. I feel like I’ve got a bit more energy, but that may also be because I’m now medicated for ADHD. It’s been a wild ride!

It’s worth noting that I do have chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia and I’m really bad at exercising 🫠

leftylibra,

It is hard to determine ‘what is contributing to what’ in menopause, and it’s all a juggling act trying to balance out medications, vitamins, diets. It sounds like you are figuring it all out though! And it’s great you found a doctor who is willing to prescribe T.

leftylibra, in i feel like a truck hit me

Hormone levels don’t really factor in during perimenopause. You could look at BCP/IUDs, or taking progesterone to help regulate/stop periods if bleeding is persistent. Otherwise, I suggest getting your iron levels checked as well.

ExceptionalCow, in i feel like a truck hit me

Could a POP be an option for you? I’ve started taking Slynd a month ago because of hypermenorrhoe and so far I’m happy with it. First “period” was very weak and with 5 days unbelievably short for me. I got frequent headaches though but I’ve read it gets better after 3 months and I stay hopeful. Edit: I’m soon 49 and haven’t taken any pill after age 19.

Zerlyna,
@Zerlyna@lemmy.world avatar

I got my last IUD last year. Copper. I really hoped this would be done soon. Have estrogen patch and progesterone 300mg too.

ExceptionalCow,

I had an IUD, too. All it gave me was even heavier bleeding. But that was just my case. Yours might be different. Do you have uterine fibroids? These can cause heavy bleedings, too.

ExceptionalCow,

BTW, I don’t take any other hormons besides Slynd. I have long had problems with fibroids but they’re not growing anymore after focused ultrasound therapy.

Zerlyna,
@Zerlyna@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve never had fibroids before. I am over due for my annual though.

ExceptionalCow,

OK, maybe an option to check. Is asking another gyn for a second opinion possible where you live? I’m thinking about the dosage of estrogen and progesterone. I’m no medical professional but maybe they’re too high?

Zerlyna,
@Zerlyna@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t know if it’s too high but I am not pulling a handful of hair out of the shower drain daily anymore! That’s a win! 🤣

ExceptionalCow,

That’s a win indeed. Congratulations 😊👍

I had no idea about the adhesive remover! My stomach looks like polka dots sometimes. 🤬 thank you!

knitapease,

I hate Walmart but that’s where I ended up due to reasons, and they didn’t seem to have any on the shelf and the line at the pharmacy was about 7 people long, so I ended up ordering it from Amazon. It should get here Sunday. In the meantime I got it off with Vitamin E oil, but I did have to rub a little and it wasn’t great.

knitapease, in The workplace can be rough for menopausal women. Employers are starting to step up

That’s a really good point there at the end. Rather than having employers making accommodation for people dealing with the symptoms of menopause, be sure that the company health insurance has good coverage and resources for it and make an effort to put the information out into the employee population so they can use the benefit. People in menopause most likely don’t want to “out” themselves for fear of repercussions.

leftylibra, in HRT 2 week check in

Some find the better placement is upper back hip, where it doesn’t rub so much against clothing. Absorption seems to be better on fattier areas.

If you’re hot flashes are not MUCH improved in the next few weeks, then that dosage is not right for you. What is the dosage? You’re on the combipatch right?
