Officer who sexually assaulted inmate at N.J. women’s prison gets jail sentence

A former senior corrections officer at the at Edna Mahan Correctional Facility, New Jersey’s lone women’s prison, was sentenced Friday to five years in state prison after he previously admitted having sexual contact with a prisoner, authorities said.

Tyrell Harris-McLaughlin, 29, of Jersey City was accused in October 2021 of sexually assaulting a female inmate at the Hunterdon County prison over whom he had supervisory and disciplinary authority through his position as a correctional officer, according to a statement from the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office.
