Honestly it would be a great Biden campaign ad.

Just this video, and then that caption fading in, and then fade out and "Paid for by the blah blah blah" and that's the end.

Mastodon is awesome, when you block someone, they disappear from your reality, you no longer have to see their posts and comments, and they can't see yours. They're simply gone.

This doesn't work the same on Lemmy/KBIN where the "block" feature is simply a mask, where you can't see whomever you "block" but they can see, and comment on your posts or comments with no way of preventing them. On KBIN there are entire instances which even this reduced "mask blocking" doesn't even work, and gives you an error

"Mask blocking" is rife for abuse, as those who post in bad faith can have at your posts and comments with no way of preventing it

Blocking doesn't seem to be high on the list of priorities for Lemmy/KBIN, like, at all, which is a shame

Been one of the more frustrating aspects of modern politics. Talking to people about what is happening, and getting told again and again that I'm exaggerating, don't be ridiculous!

And then it happens, the warning comes true. And they just never acknowledge it. They refuse to acknowledge it. Again and again and again.

And every time you bring anything up, they have the same refrain, don't exaggerate, don't be ridiculous.

Dubious_Fart,

OF course they dont acknowledge it.

If they thought about it, It’d hurt their heads. And if they acknowledged it, it would be admitting they were wrong. . and possibly even worse, admitting to playing a part in the bad thing that happened.

And we cant fucking have that happen, now can we? Why be an adult, admit a wrong, and grow as a person, when you can be an obstinant bag of dicks with your fingers in your ears going “LALALALALALALA”

This video would all make perfect sense except for the big inclusion of the smiling face of the only US president to put sanctions on Israeli settlers, freeze military aid to Israel (* - since Reagan), or other weird little weak-sauce attempts to reign in our favorite partner for war crimes out of a whole world of war crime adjacent ally countries. And the assignation of blame to him for the "antisemitism" bill which as far as I know has nothing in particular to do with him.

Is that enough? Fuck no. Does it excuse Biden's support for their crimes including providing literally the bombs that are being used to blow up women and little children and hospitals? Fuck no.

Is it worth digging into why this channel which is supposedly so passionate about advancing left wing causes in the United States, has as its only two videos that I'm familiar with, two very Biden-specific videos (this one and a "why voting is a bad idea if you are a left wing person" video) the logic of which doesn't make a whole lot of sense if you take it at face value, but makes perfect sense if you're trying to come out with a big slick professionally produced video about why left wing people should not try to stop Trump from coming to power? With no particular other solutions to offer, other than making sure Biden doesn't get elected?

Fuck fuck fuckity fuck fuck yes.

(Incidentally, if you click on the video and then click away after a few seconds, it'll downgrade it in YouTube's metrics and make the algorithm less likely to show it to other people. If you're interested in that kind of thing.)

(Here is a quick summary of the video, created by pasting the transcript into GPT after I grabbed it quickly and scooted away to avoid encouraging this video to the algorithm:)

Second Thought is a 100% grassroots-funded operation. If you'd like to help support the channel, get early access to every video, and join the Discord, consider becoming a patron.

The way to the Senate, colloquially referred to as the "anti-Semitism bill," might tempt you to think, "Oh good, we're finally doing something about hate speech." Well, that is not the case. HR 690, or the Anti-Semitism Awareness Act, is once again a Trojan horse piece of legislation whose real intent is to make it illegal to protest the Israeli genocide of the Palestinian people. This is just the latest attempt by our corrupt and morally bankrupt ruling class to maintain the status quo.

HR 690 will be the first time a concrete definition of anti-Semitism is enshrined in US law. At first blush, that sounds like a good thing. However, the definition in question is the one agreed upon in 2016 by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance, which includes some common-sense things like, "Accusing Jewish people of secretly controlling the world's governments is anti-Semitic." That's great; such statements are genuinely anti-Semitic. However, the definition also includes items such as, "Denying the Jewish people their right to self-determination, e.g., by claiming that the existence of the State of Israel is a racist endeavor," and "Drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis."

This is problematic because many argue that the State of Israel has pursued policies reminiscent of apartheid. The legislation effectively bans calling Israel what it is: a racist apartheid regime. Additionally, it would restrict the ability to compare Israel's actions to those of the Nazis, which some see as legitimate given certain similarities in policy and action.

On campuses across the United States, protests have erupted against these policies, driving the bill. The student movement has transformed into a cultural schism, with young people and university staff on one side and militarized police and Zionist agitators on the other. This bill, if passed, would criminalize dissent, marking a concerning step towards the legalization of fascism under the guise of fighting anti-Semitism.

In conclusion, while the bill presents itself as a protective measure for Jewish people, it could also severely limit free speech and criminalize valid criticism of Israeli policies. As the protests grow and the debate intensifies, the distinction between legal actions and moral righteousness becomes ever more apparent. The challenge now is to continue advocating for justice and human rights, despite potential legal repercussions.

Vocal participation in a genocidal system is endorsement of it. You can’t tell people to vote for one of the parties of Capital one year and then suddenly tell people that actually it needs to be overthrown and think that’s going to happen 5 years later.

At some point you have to commit to it being “broken” (actually working as intended of course) and organize based entirely on the fact that it is and can not be supported in any way whatsoever. We’re long past that point with the “lesser evil” party currently committing genocide.

Successful revolutions in the past have used elections primarily as a way to show the size of the movement, never by endorsing a party of Capital. Specially not one committing a genocide.

put sanctions on Israeli settlers

To pretend like it’s not state-supported settler colonialism and just an individual thing, and he even walked lmao. You’d expect the supposed “lesser evil” candidate to do the bare minimum of stopping all relations with “israel” when it’s committing a genocide in full view of the world.

freeze military aid to Israel

Biden bypasses congress to send weapons to the israel faster

I actually have no issue with almost everything in the video. I copied out the transcript and then skimmed it, not wanting to give dangerous disinformation any views. It sounded like a pretty 100% accurate breakdown of why the antisemitism bill is horrifying; pretty much my only issue with it is the weird sudden 90 degree turn it takes into blaming the whole thing on Biden.

The strategy it's implicitly advocating for as a response to the bill, just like your "you have to commit to it," is going to potentially make forward left wing progress almost impossible in the US for quite some time, if Trump wins, as well as get a whole bunch of people killed who didn't need to die. Ukrainians, Palestinians, Americans, and a bunch more. Maybe even you, too, if you live in the US and ever plan to take part in a protest after January 2025.

You can dress it up however makes you feel better about that outcome.

Cablerumor, in Why Biden's New Bill Is So Terrifying

I’m imaging the down votes stem from anger that you would criticize Biden when the election is so soon. He is the one in power, the one who can choose to win the election in one decision, but is throwing the election because of AIPAC interests. But as soon as you pressure the sitting leader to make a single political decision, one that is his duty as a supposed ‘moral’ vanguard, you have gone too far.

And the funny thing is, this will be passed and this will impact lives and criminalize dissent. More adjacent to American sinophobic propaganda than China itself, yet its cultural taboo to even pin the blame on sitting leaders. Because god forbid we ask our leaders to listen to us and stop a second holocaust.

Liberals would sooner celebrate the indictment of Trump, something that is wholly meaningless. He will appeal for months and is already brutally ahead in the polls, meaning he can simply wriggle his orange gelatinous body out of this one and pardon himself without a single day in jail. And before you say, he hasnt won yet, of course he hasnt. I hope hes never elected again. But to completely deny that their candidate is losing ground in every swing state is delusional, angering hundreds of thousands of his voting bloc on the way. If you want biden to win you should be ruthless with criticism of his Israeli support until he is pressured to switch. Stop celebrating a victory that holds no meaning, start fighting tooth and nail against an administration that is cool with incinerating babies.

This platform has become blue maga r/politics, never wanting to engage with the content just pressing the downvote button. But at least its federated I guess.

SLfgb, in Julian Assange Scores A Big Legal Win; He Can Petition To Appeal His Extradition To US [09:47 | May 20 24 | The Hill]

Read Craig Murray on this:

Craig Murray: Something Changed in the Assange Case

Mentioning “what is at stake here” was the first real acknowledgement of the major issues in this case from the judiciary in over a decade of proceedings. It did feel like something had changed.

consortiumnews.com/…/craig-murray-something-has-c…

Also, the Hill headline is slightly wrong. He can appeal the extradition. Not he can petition to appeal. Full appeal hearing coming up, not sure if the date’s been decided on yet. He won the right to appeal on the grounds that he has a case that he will be discriminated for his nationality and denied first amendment protections as a non-US citizen. This comes after the US failed to provide satisfactory assurances that this won’t happen.
