Just wondering what people are using to meet the 2FA requirement GitHub has been rolling out. I don’t love the idea of having an authenticator app installed on my phone just to log into GitHub. And really don’t want to give them my phone number just to log in....
Codeberg, or failing that, GitLab, or BitBucket. Allowing MS to control all FLOSS software, means they might probably secretly get consent to use your code for copilot training without respecting licences. I have no idea if this happens, or might in the future, as I ain’t reading the terms of service for something I do not use, however, I have little trust for them enough for air on the side of caution.
In the first quarter of 2024, Meta made $36.45 billion dollars - $12.37 billion dollars of which was pure profit. Though the company no longer reports daily active users, it now uses another metric: “family daily active people.” This number refers to “registered and logged-in users of one or more of Facebook’s Family...
Which they could also report on. The fact they’re removing a standard metric they’ve relied on, rather than relegate it, shows they have fear this metric is going to be detrimental to publish. You can fairly safely assume it’s going to go down. It’s no longer sexy, tik tok is killing it, and most that would be on it, are, and are discovering it’s not greatly beneficial to them and spending less time on it. It is the start of the decline. How long and how fast is the thing we do not know.
I’m sick of Windows, and especially what it’s become, and the way its trending looks like it will only get worse. I’ll be building a brand new PC this summer and want to choose a Linux Distro instead. In preparation, I’d like to try out a virtual machine with a Linux distribution. I am solidly familiar with Ubuntu, but I...
Lol nah. But Lemmy world has a somewhat rude intolerant moderation policy and often users mirror that. There is good people on there, of course, but a reasonable percentage of folk who’d be at home on reddit and Xitter.
What are people using in place of Google docs/sheets/etc? I’m looking for a simple program that syncs with the cloud so I can access my documents on my different computers or my Android phone. Completely self serving though. Mobile is a personal data goldmine and Google gotta dig into that one way or another and if folks can contribute to that side with bug fixes, great.

“Kick back, watch it crumble See the drowning Watch the fall I feel just terrible about it That’s sarcasm, let it burn”
“Where did all their money go?
Don’t we all know? Parasitic [gaming] industry As it destroys itself We’ll show them how it’s supposed to be”
“Dinosaurs will slowly die And I do believe no one will cry I’m just fucking glad I’m gonna be There to watch the fall
Pre-Historic [gaming] industry Three feet in La Brea tar Extinction never felt so good”
Switch a few words and it works perfectly well.
Gamers need to realise it’s all about the indies. Buy indie, screw AAA. Watch them grow and hire those talented folk that deserve better than this bullshit.

So you created an echo chamber more familiar to what you know? I get lemmygrad and hexbear isn’t for everyone but don’t see a reason to ban. Lemmy.ml existed before the influx so has a mix and shouldn’t be generalised.

Ignore those that don’t agree with your plans. Never let folk impose their morality on you.
You want to go to college? What do you want to study?
Life can throw you some bad cards all at once at times. Solving those little problems can make it less overwhelming and more manageable.
Attraction is a subjective thing. You build a life you’re happy and confident in and people will find that attractive. Looking at your picture, I would be amazed if you didn’t find someone attracted to you. Be patient, it’ll come.
The hormones has been pointed out as possibly having an impact. Maybe give yourself a few months break to see how you feel, then go again. I’m not advocating stopping or quitting, just a pause to tackle a few other life issues before going on with your journey. Life is a marathon and not a sprint and sometimes a rest helps get through that next bit.
Also, sometimes anti-depressants can help at the lowest times. Worth considering. Counselling could be better if it’s something you can get access to.
It depends on whether you rent or own. You rent a flat and you cannot do what you want. Unfortunately, with games, most law is set up so you rent them and are buying a licence to play them within the conditions set out. It sucks, but that is how it is set up.
Because it does the things well gamers want. They want to play together, and talk together (voice chat), and stream showing them bossing or doing something IG. It does those things very well. If matrix gets seemless voice calling and video/screensharing at the click of the button, they would find it easier to make inroads.
It also has sensible defaults for managing users etc. and it’s effortless.
It’s not about features, it’s just about getting the basics right.
