Where does that headline phrasing come from? The study does not, and does not claim to, pinpoint anything for autism.

They use mice bred for hypersensitivity, and look at which parts of those mice’s brains can be suppressed to reduce measured sensitivity to heated floors and electric shock.

They use “mice models of autism” to get an indication of where to maybe start looking on the slim chance it turns out to be similar in humans.

The mouse model may turn out to be a different kind of hypersensitivity altogether. Human brains may wire hypersensitivity very differently. The observed results may be that the mice’s reactions are different instead of weaker. Etc…

It is valid science, but a long shot away from a long shot at being applicable for autism in humans.

Hamas launches rocket attack towards Tel Aviv area (www.bbc.com)

Hamas says it has launched a rocket attack towards the Tel Aviv area in central Israel for the first time in nearly four months. At least eight rockets were launched from the Rafah area in southern Gaza and several were intercepted, the Israeli military says. No injuries have been reported.

Deestan,

Yes, the oppressed are eager to hurt people any way they can, and nobody can expect it to be any other way.

But still, launching long range missiles isn’t an impulse action. There are so many actors domestic and internationally to do production, procurement, installation, logistics, assembly, that we can assume someone high up has made a strategic decision based on expected outcome.

And the expected outcome is extremely obvious: a) zero tactical gains, and b) more excuses to ignore international pressure and hit Rafah even more brutally.

Deestan,

Any action other than assisting the invaders would be an improvement.

Deestan,

You see: The female and male brains are evolved due to caveman and lizard brain woman gatherers ovulations cause them to emotionally react to preserve other females wellbeing for offspring genes preserve evolve and this is all backed up by (laughably bad) science (from decades ago) and is theorised by top behavioral scientists (debunked lying grifters) today.

Thank you for coming to my TEDx talk.

Deestan,

That verification really did put a hurdle in front of kids back in the pre-internet era.

…and adults outside USA who don’t know shit about baseball trivia or comedians famous in West Wisconsin City.

Deestan,

A doctor commented on how alarming it was that he suffered liver damage from the project - it was on a level they only saw in people drining heavily.

Deestan,

“You could consider donating to some organizations researching what caused you to be this way, so maybe one day we will have pre-natal screening available.”

Deestan,

By “lived in a bush and hunted for his meals” he is referring to that one Sunday morning the owner forgot to fill his food bowl.

Blinken hints at US sanctions against ICC over arrest warrants for Israeli leaders (www.independent.co.uk)

Antony Blinken has indicated that he will work with American lawmakers on potential sanctions against the International Criminal Court after it sought arrest warrants for Israel’s prime minister and defence minister, setting the stage for a confrontation with the world court in the Hague.

Deestan,

If heads of state can be held responsible for war crimes in the middle east, it sets a dangerous precedent for the US.

Deestan,

Shadowbans are sitewide and almost always automates actions to counter spam.

Your chances are better if you avoid doing “spam-like” things:

  • Using URL shorteners
  • Posting links to several subreddits at once
  • Using a lot of links in your comments
  • All of the above on a fresh account
  • etc.

If you are unlucky and caught in a false positive, there is an /appeals form that is usually helpful.

Deestan,

Deestan,

Thank you for formatting it to be easier to read on mobile lemmy! :)

Could bipolar people also be 'on the spectrum'? I had a natural birth (oxygen could have been cut off to my brain during birth?)

I’m not the kind of ‘trendy’ bipolar, although my cunt of an aunt believes I have ‘convinced’ myself of that, despite being to the nuthouse twice (50 days total) and several psycho-shinks having diagnosed me with several other mental disorders; the very first nuttyness I got diagnosed with was of course, ADD/ADHD. I...

Deestan,

Myer-Briggs tests are a grift, yes. Autism testing is nothing like that. It is assessed by a professional and partly through questionnaires.

Autism itself is not “treatable”, so you get no pills or anything. Some symptoms of autism that you may struggle with may be alleviated with treatment, but it’s almost all learning techniques and management.

A diagnosis at your age may make it easier to understand, accept and manage some aspects of yourself. For some, that is useful, for others not.

Deestan,

It is common to just remove posts that look like they are against the community or rules, yes.

If it looks like a mistake, the poster gets in touch with the mods to discuss the matter.

You have also received a bit of feedback on your posts. It helps you look less spammy if you address or respond to it.

Deestan,

When you respond through an LLM, Tull, I do not feel respected.

Deestan,

Context:

Tull is a user here. He created a Large Language Model AI persona to help himself, and he had some thoughts it may help others. There was a post about it a while back where he asked people’s thoughts on it.

He seems to now be putting this LLM forward as a Lemmy user claiming sentience, which has been met with confusion and negativity.

Op posted a “meme” urging people to invalidate femboy’s self identities. Got downvoted. Got called out. Post was removed via rule#1. Reacts as if the backlash is because she is transgender.

Should just ban.

Deestan,

Thinking randomly about WandaVision again for some reason.

Deestan,

Fun fact! This of course extends to lottery numbers. So, you are exactly as likely to win the big prize with 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 as with any other set of numbers.

People who feel very smart thus pick numbers like that and are happy to explain the probability analysis to you at length, and why you don’t need to pick random numbers.

Then people who are smart take into account that popular numbers increase your chances of having other people with same numbers as you sharing the prize, and they pick random numbers. :)

In the Norwegian lottery, an official at some point said that if the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 ever got picked, so many people would have to share the prize that it would not be a noteworthy amount of money for each.

Deestan,

US kindergarten slapfight, not world news

Deestan,

He keeps posting stuff like that. People report it.

Sometimes the lemmy.ml mods notice the reports and drop by to tell people to stop reporting him or ban anyone who disagree too loudly.
