I haven’t watched DS9 in a long time. I don’t have a dad to call anymore. Not sure how I’d feel if I watched it now.

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

I’m a dad too. But I can’t call myself.

Do it! Take all the other billionaires with you! Any of the ones that don’t want to go down to the Titanic can be sent off to Mars with Elon.

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

What happened with the Titan is the Ocean Gate guy thought he was smarter than everyone else

So a billionaire? Like this guy?

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Let’s stop calling it price cutting and calling it what it really is- degouging.

North Korean trash balloons are dumping ‘filth’ on South Korea

Since filth is in quotes, does that mean it’s a euphemism? Are they dumping porn?

When my daughter was younger, she’d watch this channel that was approved for YouTube Kids called HobbyKidsTV where the parents were exploiting (I think) three kids with a fourth to come for YouTube income. And it worked. They had millions of views. I got my daughter back then to stop watching when I pointed out that they gave their kids nicknames and what they named one of them. One was “HobbyFrog.” However, there was an overweight kid (only a little bit) they called “HobbyPig.” Even at 5 or 6 when she watched it, she realized that was just a shitty way to talk about your kid.

On top of that, they did toy unboxing videos virtually daily. You could tell that toys were just not special for those kids anymore and that the parents were just making them do it.

Captain Janeway - Hair Master (lemmy.world)

My favorite part was how her hair was in a beautiful and much more complicated knot in the premier episode, then it was a mangled mess after Voyager was thrown to the Delta Quadrant, but they make a show of her fixing it into the simpler knot with her bare hands while walking the corridors from one disaster to another....

Except with some sort of weird 24th century hair gel that keeps it up for a few inches and then allows you to have long tresses in the back.

Seriously, how did they do that?

The Washington Post said it had the Alito flag story 3 years ago and chose not to publish (apnews.com)

Nine days after The New York Times reported about the political symbolism of an upside-down American flag that flew at U.S. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito’s home, the Washington Post acknowledged it had the same story more than three years ago and decided not to publish it....

Sorry… you don’t think justices should recuse themselves when they demonstrate an obvious bias when it comes to upcoming cases?

FlyingSquid,

I remember when some asshole racist told me that black people smelled bad when I was a kid. I spent ages sniffing the air when I was near a black person trying to figure out if I could smell them. I’m glad I can’t see me doing it except from my perspective, because that’s embarrassing enough.

I am fine with the careless driving charge.

As long as there is also a negligent attempted manslaughter charge (or whatever the charge for ‘almost killing people with your car you stupid fuck’ would be). Hopefully more than careless driving.

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

That’s insane! Were you at least able to get insurance money from her to pay for healthcare for at least a little while?

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

The scary thing: There are people out there who will change their vote depending on whether or not he’s convicted.

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

What an asshole.

And I’m not talking about the scientist.

Stephen King claims he writes 2000 words a day.

R. L. Stein supposedly wrote a new (admittedly short) novel every two weeks.

This Spanish romance novelist apparently wrote over 4000 novels in her lifetime.

So sure, why not 80 technical papers in 2.5 years?

When did I say anything about being injured or killed? If you don’t know how awful it is to be personally attacked by a bigot for just being who you are, congratulations on being privileged.

But like I said, there is pretty much nothing I could possibly say to convince some people that Israel helps foment anti-Jewish sentiment.

There are some people I cannot convince that there is any antisemitism at all, which is its own form of bigotry.

FlyingSquid,

Thank you, and I agree. Fuck Israel and make Palestine free and independent!

How do you define a life not worth living? Because I lost the genetic lottery in huge ways-

Does that mean reaching 10 on the pain scale every day for a few years due to a rare nerve disorder? Me.

Does that mean not having any solid food apart from a couple of bites with my mouth completely numbed since last August? Also me.

On top of that, I have type II bipolar disorder and no job.

A lot of people would say that life is not living, especially when it’s this nerve disorder.

But I would say it is.

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

The original Wikipedia article had a link to that. Sorry, I should have added it.

But I love that Chico told his wife to put a pretty blonde in his coffin with him. Apparently he was also quite the gambler and spent most of the time on set when he wasn’t filming playing cards, so that makes sense.

I choose to remain ignorant and believe the Voltaire quote is true!

If there were a bus closer than two miles and across a four-lane highway from me, I would be that guy.

They really wanted to let you know how important they were back then. Which actually makes things hard for historians sometimes because it’s not clear that when they say things like, “The king who marched from opposite Tigris (from the opposite bank of the Tigris River) up to the Lebanon and the Great Sea, ruled over the land (and) the land Šabate I brought under my authority.” if that’s actually true or just bragging.

There’s definitely a lot of bragging about sizes of armies. They’ll claim they’re things like 100,000 strong when there weren’t enough men to make up an army of that size and still have society function.

1,000 Harvard Students Walk Out of Commencement to Support 13 Seniors Barred from Graduation over Gaza (www.democracynow.org)

More than a thousand Harvard students walked out of their commencement ceremony yesterday to support 13 undergraduates who were barred from graduating after they participated in the Gaza solidarity encampment in Harvard Yard....

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

If you want to show me actual evidence to support your claim that most Americans haven’t heard of it, go for it. Good luck.

Anyway, we’re not talking about the average person. We’re talking about the sort of person who hires Harvard graduates. If they don’t know about really good universities in other countries, they really suck at their job when they’re hiring people at the high end like that. So if you want to claim HR people who hire Harvard graduates suck at their jobs… well, good luck.

You would have to calculate the economic impact of, presumably, bulldozing all of the Appalachians into the ocean as part of it.
