A synthetic drug ravages youth in Sierra Leone. There's little help, and some people are chained (apnews.com)

In Sierra Leone, a cheap, synthetic drug is ravaging youth. Trash-strewn alleys are lined with boys and young men slumped in addiction. Healthcare services are severely limited. One frustrated community has set up what it calls a treatment center, run by volunteers. But harsh measures can be used....

a derivative of cannabis mixed with synthetic drugs like fentanyl and tramadol and chemicals like formaldehyde.

What the fuck, Sierra Leone? Don’t take something great and turn it into something horrible.

Bad headline. What it’s talking about is whether or not Ukraine can use the weapons Germany and France gave them to do so.

They are already attacking military targets and France and Germany couldn’t do shit about it even if they wanted to, which they don’t.

I was coming in here to suggest this. The right around the world, almost certainly with the aid of Russia’s massive troll farm, has really stepped up its game in terms of internet outreach to young people.

where did all that material come from?

It all has to do with this. Don’t ask me to explain this part though.

Similar with Graham Chapman, who then apologized.

You know, CNN… I’m American. I don’t really know the Celsius temperature scale all that well. But at least wait until the body before you assume I’m too stupid or lazy to just look it up. Either that or just use Fahrenheit in the headline.

1 million customers are without power in Texas as Dallas and Houston get slammed with destructive storms | CNN (edition.cnn.com)

More than a million customers in Texas were without power Tuesday as powerful storms delivered another round of violent weather to the state still reeling from an almost unrelenting parade of destructive and deadly storms in recent weeks....

I’m cishet, but I’ll totally make out with you if it means a tornado wipes out the governor’s mansion…

If they don’t want people pirating books- textbooks anyway- stop making the ebook version ridiculously fucking expensive.

I couldn’t care less what color you are. Your poor understanding of racism shows you come from some sort of place of privilege regardless.

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

It really doesn’t. But then I looked through your comment history and I’m not really interested in what lessons someone who promotes the fossil fuel industry and Facebook might want to teach.

Can you link whatever comment(s) you misread to mean anything like that?

I could, but then you did all the personal attacks and along with a bunch of lies about me immediately following that question, so nah.

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Ah, you’re doing the “I’m rubber, you’re glue” thing. Let’s go through your previous statement and show all the personal attacks and lies, shall we?

Can you link whatever comment(s) you misread to mean anything like that? Also thanks- weirdly flattering you’re that obsessed with me [Personal attack and lie]

Also not saying this is what’s happening but your behavior seems exactly like what you’d expect from someone that identifies as socially enlightened but knows they just got called on casual bigotry. [Personal attack] Extreme defensiveness and attacking the credibility of the person that made the challenge. Just saying you fit the profile pretty exactly. [Personal attack]

But that could be a good sign. You’ll never admit to me what you learned about yourself today [Lie, I learned nothing about myself from you] but a decent person will learn and make adjustments anyway. I think there’s still a chance you’re a decent person and will do just that after you get over being angry at me.[Lie.]

I’ll just start flagging you for the personal attacks and lies, shall I?

Edit: Done.

Coroner doesn’t really require much skill. It’s basically an administrative position. The medical examiner is the one who needs medical experience.

(It still shouldn’t be an elected position though.)

You can call it whatever you like. It is not against the community rules to say something untrue in a comment and we mods do not have the time to vet every flagged comment for veracity.

1,000 Harvard Students Walk Out of Commencement to Support 13 Seniors Barred from Graduation over Gaza (www.democracynow.org)

More than a thousand Harvard students walked out of their commencement ceremony yesterday to support 13 undergraduates who were barred from graduating after they participated in the Gaza solidarity encampment in Harvard Yard....

Why do you think that many of the people usefully swayed by Harvard wouldn’t be usefully swayed by La Sorbonne just because you’ve never heard of it?

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Yes, again, just because you haven’t heard of one of the world’s most prestigious universities doesn’t mean no one else has.

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Yes, an assumption you have no evidence to back up.

You think that because you personally haven’t heard of something, HR people in major companies have never heard of it when the fact is, they’re probably hiring people from all over the world and, because of that, have heard of one of the worlds most well-known and prestigious universities.

It’s been around since the 13th century. It was the alma mater of Marie Curie and Simone de Beauvoir (perhaps you’ve also never heard of them). According to Wikipedia, its scientists have won 33 Nobel prizes and 6 Fields medals.

So basically you’re saying that HR people in major companies don’t understand how to do their jobs because of something you personally have never heard of.

When you watch it, I’d love to know what you think of the morally ambiguous character of Mike and how he feels about hunting wolves.
