Can I damage or even kill a sbc if I use a power supply with a lower amperage than what is recommended/expected by the manufacturers?

Title. In other words, sbc recommended/optimal power supply is 5V4A but I use an 5V3A instead – will it damage or kill the sbc? The reasoning behind this is “an direct undervolting towards the system, for lower power draw and temps”....

There are minimum risk that the sbc is damaged (0 risk don’t exists) although.

Let me guess – those same risks also exists with a (required volts per amps) power supply? Then again, I’m planning to use it on an sbc meant to stay idle 24/7, so I guess I should be fine. Thank you for your input as well.

Thank you for your concise and well thought post.

Looking for advice on a kid/tamper proof retro gaming experience

I’m looking for some advice on setting up a retro gaming system for my son. He absolutely loves the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive and some Atari classics like Frogger. The problem I have is he is autistic, which leads to two very different issues to solve. First is he loves to tinker with things. Which I don’t mind, and actively...

Thats a smart take. “There ain’t no better teacher than experience.”

Somehow unrelated to what this video proposes, Linux has taught and gave me so many possibilities that I would never, ever be able to if I (still) were using Windows to this very day. In other words… thanks to Linux, I can now operate and have fun in a under 3W device.

I haven’t tried it, but I suppose you’ll do just fine with debian sid. i.e edit /etc/apt/sources.list, swap $distro_nickname for sid, sudo apt update, sudo apt full-upgrade.

Indeed! I’m not planning to go back to Winblows unless I’m being paid for it.

Downloaded the latest Ubuntu Desktop

Theres your problem.

Can't grasp the idea that I need more than an adblocker for docker.

I know this seem like a typical “Your opinion man” post but honestly, is there anything really useful beyond hosting an adblocker? (read: complementary, not found elsewhere, that enhances own’s personal needs and/or life as a whole). And yes, I’m aware of what can be hosted – picture editors, video editors, webtops,...

Cpupower can both show cpu info -and- tweak it, so nope. Not really.

Thanks for your input tho.

I don’t do much other than setting up ufw to block all ssh connections and the “standard” firejail configuration. There is also nextdns set up via my sbc (Orange pi zero 3) which is pretty nice for a “quasi-network-wide ublock”.

I feel like breaking my windows install was a rite of passage

Lately ive noticed that i was wanting to do certain things on Windows that just seemed much easier and more intuitive on Linux, based in the OS specific solutions i would see to problems i encountered. And i was more frequently using software where Windows support seemed like an after thought....

My “rite of passage” to the magical world of GNU/Linux was… well… boredom. My Windows install was run fresh, with TCPOptimizer, with some things removed out of its core… until I took the decision of “trying to figure out how to use Linux even if it means losing my sanity.”

…and here we are. Sanity is still intact tho…

…I think. :^)

Yes officer, this heretic right here.

“Not exactly Linux”, but FreeBSD. Gave it a couple tries but gave up when I realized its minimalism is a placebo at best and its “super security features” can (also) be achieved on any other standard Linux distribution.

When folks will stop with the “If Linux won’t become another Windows, it’ll fail” mentality? Linux is not Winblows – and we really mean it. To “increase adoption” users need to acknowledge (only) this – that both Windows and Linux differs from one another and that won’t change in any time soon.

GustavoM,

Why not? It’s simple, lightweight, has a lot of interesting commands that fills its respective niche really well (btop, for instance) and (the best of all) it doesn’t explode my PC everytime I run such commands.

"Combokeys" instead of hotkeys. [Feature/new command suggestion]

Title. Basically, “if a street fighter gamer and a linux tryhard had a baby” where a combination of keys is issued to run a command/script rather than a single or a simultaneous stroke of two or more. i.e left, down, left, right arrow keys, R_CTRL to run Firefox. Right, right, Up, right arrow keys, delete to power off the...

Asides from “ew installing Winblows stuff in my distro ewwww” that will be a gamechanger if they do it right.
