Does the form factor between 3.5" and 2.5" matter in a NAS server? (slrpnk.net)

Been finding some good deals on 2.5 disks lately, but have never bought one before. Have a couple of 3.5 disks on the other hand in my Unraid server. Wondering how much it matters wether I get a 2.5 or not? What form factor do you prefer/usually go for?

On Masto, you should follow Hashtag that you like, then you’ll start following some people when you want more of them !

Well all the same, except for the number of thread. in the end (at around80%) I bumbed the threads to 15, and CPU was still the same in the consumption, however, there were 15 ffmpeg process. so maybe a but in the jellyfin-ffmpeg package ? or maybe I’m missing something here

Well, you can enable it per-library, also Storage is not that much, I scalled down to 160p tho for my needs it’s more than enough

But for my library, it took a few weeks, but I limited the number of ffmpeg thread to 3-4.

GIMP is part of the brand, remove the brand and you get Twitter, oh I mean Y or X or whatever. GIMP is a cool name imo.

And you need to select it in the profile settings (about:profiles iirc)

Yes good point, sorry, directory should be executable, files don’t have to be.

Thank you for pointing it out!

Files need to be executable iirc, verify permission and compare permissions from a file that is shown in your library from a file that isn’t.

well, it is the hottest part of the server, everything else run at 40-45C. Also, this temperature mean the fan spin up a bit too much for my tast, this is why I want to lower the temperature!

The temperature doesn’t cause performance issue, it just cause the fans to speed up, plus this make my room hotter. Sometime the raid card runs at 60-65C too.

This is exaclty what I think too. But does anyone have tested this and is the theory same as in reality?

Backup up is not an issue of course! Restoring either, 10GB cards at the rescue!

How hot ? and what model ? is it the same ?

There is a SAS connector on the Motherboard, but I have 12 drives and I’m unsure if it would work. Nothing gets reported in the OS as another RAID controller on the OS.

I thought about plain HBA too, but if I can avoid putting money for now ahah

Firmware is the latest, I try to keep my systems up-to-date as much as possible!

I might try it, but for now I don’t really want to put the server offline for a test ahah, I’ll try to get info about this port tho.

A friend gave me a PS2 for free a while back, I’ll need to try this one day
