He said while his pillow company is “doing fine,” “I don’t have any money.” “I have a pickup truck and a house that I live in. That’s it,” he said.

Bullshit. It’s always funny to me what drama queens fairly well off people become when they experience the slightest financial setback.

True, I feel like I’d just continously slip and fall like a looney tunes character trying to get out

Adaria Vending Services told MathNEWS that “what’s most important to understand is that the machines do not take or store any photos or images, and an individual person cannot be identified using the technology in the machines. The technology acts as a motion sensor that detects faces, so the machine knows when to activate the purchasing interface—never taking or storing images of customers.”

“You should totally trust us about this, even though we failed to disclose the use of facial recognition software upfront.”

This company needs to develop some software to go fuck itself.

Yeah, this was hard for me too. Not sure if you’re anarchist, but this still might help:

From “Anarchism and Its Aspirations” by Cindy Milstein:

If we understand this sense of negative and positive freedom, what appears as a contradictory stance within anarchism makes perfect sense. An anarchist might firmly believe that the Palestinian people deserve to be liberated from occupation, even if that means that they set up their own state. That same anarchist might also firmly believe that a Palestinian state, like all states, should be opposed in favor of nonstatist institutions. A complete sense of freedom would always include both the negative and positive senses—in this case, liberation from occupation and simultaneously the freedom to self-determine. Otherwise, as both actually existing Communist and liberal regimes have demonstrated, “freedom from” on its own will serve merely to enslave human potentiality, and at its most extreme, humans themselves; self-governance is denied in favor of a few governing over others. And “freedom to,” on its own, as capitalism has shown, will serve merely to promote egotistic individualism and pit each against each; self-determination trumps notions of collective good. Constantly working to bring both liberation and freedom to the table, within moments of resistance and reconstruction, is part of that same juggling act of approximating an increasingly differentiated yet more harmonious world

I’ve been pretty consistently accused of being a bot and/or Trump supporter, whenever I point out that Biden supports genocide. Maybe you don’t see it because it’s not directed at you. Empathy is hard…

What’s really funny is that some of the same infamous neoliberals appear whenever a post like this is made, going, “Are these neoliberals in the room right now?” because they know its them, but they can’t help but express themselves in a condescending, implicitly ableist manner.

I think the point is that Democrats are making absolutely no concessions to anyone who’s not extremely right-wing or pro-establishment. I understand the concept of damage control, but what I’ve seen leads me to believe that Democrats are willing to dismiss the concerns of any leftist or progressive, even using dehumanizing tactics like calling us “bots.”

I myself plan to protest in the primary but vote for whatever ghoul they put forward, but I can totally sympathize with people who can’t morally bring themselves to vote for someone who is actively contributing to a genocide, who is increasing the number of innocent refugees being imprisoned and deported at the southern border, and the like.

I think it’s also worth noting that committing genocide is never okay, no matter how many Americans think otherwise. What would happen to me if suddenly the majority wanted me in the “out group.” This is why we call it “fascism” – that’s not an exaggeration, it tracks with what Biden and our nation have been doing.

I think you just haven’t met the right people

I agree a lot of people can be selfish like this, so I somewhat understand feeling like this, but I assure you there are certainly caring, selfless people

Edit: I agree that the vast majority are pieces of shit, though. Being online has made me realize this.

Not to mention that even the “socially left” is highly questionable. When I see a leader who’s willing to throw other marginalized groups such as Palestinians, refugees, and BIPOC under the bus, I have no doubt he’d have us LGBTQIA+ people lined up and executed if he thought it would help him win elections. Establishment Democrats are not allies, no matter how many rainbows they project on the White House.

lemmy.world seems like a good server to have that experiment because they’re large enough to not get completely overwhelmed

I tend to think the opposite. Being federated with the largest instance means more power they can exert against the fediverse. I don’t think it will bode well.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I just made a similar comment.

Alcohol nearly killed me, lost me a career, nearly lost me my marriage. My brother is totally zombified by alcohol, and also a lot of people who used to be my friends. It’s basically like watching late-stage opioid addicts on the street, except that alcohol is even worse in a way because it’s socially acceptable and even encouraged. My grandpa died of alcohol related illness, and I’ve watched so many people descend into the depths of despair because of alcohol. It’s 100% a horrible, horrible drug.

But I agree with you that banning it is not the answer. I actually believe in decriminalizing all drugs because the war on drugs has been an utter failure and has only managed to ruin lives even more.

I think education is the answer. We need to make people more aware of how destructive alcohol really is, and make them see that anyone can become an addict/alcoholic. None of us is immune, and the people who say “not me” are probably the most likely people to gradually descend to where I was before I got sober. I know because I was one of them, and I’ve seen the same story play out over and over and over again with people I know, to the point that it’s nearly consumed my entire social circle.

It seems far more possible to have a good socialist country than it does a capitalist one

At least it ostensibly seeks equity, whereas capitalism is inherently inequitable, and no amount of regulation can ever change that

We’re so immersed in capitalism that we subscribe to the illusion that it’s a good system, similar to how people centuries ago would have perceived the divine right of kings

LinkOpensChest_wav,
@LinkOpensChest_wav@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I’m in the upper crust of an exploitative capitalist nation that relies on slavery, human trafficking, and genocide for the illusion of equity. Claiming that capitalist nations are saving the world is absolutely unhinged. We’re actually destroying the entire planet while we dance on the backs of many marginalized groups.

I’m actually anarchist, but I’m just saying socialist nations at least seek equity, unlike really egregiously awful countries like Canada and the US. I could name some nations that are better than this, but I suspect you’re not going to respond in good faith and/or will merely parroting McCarthyist brainrot.
