Alexander Smith, a contractor for the US Agency for International Development (USAID), said he was given a choice between resignation and dismissal after preparing a presentation on maternal and child mortality among Palestinians, which was cancelled at the last minute by USAID leadership last week....
President Joe Biden promised Black voters Wednesday that he would appoint progressives to the US Supreme Court if elected to a second term, suggesting he expects vacancies on the high court over the next four years....
It suggests that Republican SCOTUS judges might want to retire but they aren’t under any obligation to do so in the next 4 years. Unless he’s ready to pull the trigger on court reforms or he’s got an assassin lined up this is just another empty promise.
Care to offer an actual list? Every time someone tries to offer an actual list it turns out to be meaningless victory laps. With the possible exception of the NLRB Cemex decision. But that’s getting it’s stress test right now so it’s a bit early to celebrate.
I mean usually people try to curate it to stuff with physical outcomes. Otherwise 90% of that list is performative crap like this one. And if you don’t think that was performative have a look at what red states are doing in schools.
On that action he could withhold funding. Any police officers enforcing bathroom laws can be arrested and charged. He can federalize the Texas National Guard so Abbott can’t use them on the border. He could direct Darpa to research battery technology and make any resulting patents free and open for anyone to produce.
That’s 3 ideas in his power in less than 5 minutes. The laws are already on the books. He refuses to use them and keeps running this “woe is me, congress is out of control” narrative and I’m tired of nobody calling him on it.
If you check my post history you’ll see I do go through the entire list when it’s reasonable. I’m not trawling through a thousand EOs and NSMs for an internet stranger though. That’s dangerously close to trying to prove a negative and will take multiple months. If they want to prove a point they need to support that point. Not do the source version of waving vaguely in the direction of the White House.
I think it’s pretty clear the rich people fucked them up too. The working class isn’t chomping at the bit to go oppress people. The Royal Navy literally abducted sailors to keep it’s empire going, and Rome forced “barbarians” into the military to create a civil military divide that protected Italians from really feeling the cost. But then that system killed the Republic, and later the Western Roman Empire.
Workers want two things. To provide for their loved ones and to have a bit of time they can enjoy with their loved ones. The ideas of imperialism and especially radical conservatism have to be jammed down their throats from day 1 of school. That takes money and influence. You know who has money and influence?
Oh? The US forced the French to keep operating in Africa until (checks notes) last year? The US forced them to operate colonies until they couldn’t be militarily sustained anymore? The US forced the dumbest drawing of country borders? The US forced Europe to take part in cold war geopolitics?
I don’t know or care. RFK is polling surprisingly well but he’s also RFK. So maybe we don’t vote for president this year. Maybe this year we protest the system instead and challenge the idea that this is a legitimate way to represent us.
I’m aware. Please sit and think about the comment you responded to though. Are there really Soros bucks? Does it follow that Koch bucks are likely either? Or maybe I’m just poking fun at the fact that the right accuses me of being a Soros funded Communist and you guys accuse me of voting for Trump
No. You just used sweeping generalizations with the barest of a fig cover. Even now. They’re “exceptions” meaning you think your post is the rule. So you’re just trying to split technical hairs so you don’t have to face criticism.
That is the very definition of a sweeping generalization. For example, how do you quantify “a lot”? And yeah that would be convenient for you wouldn’t it? Getting called on your attempt to demonize independents by someone who fit your profile. Alas, no.
Arguably the hard right foreign policies of the US from the last 10-20 years are responsible for a lot of the migrant waves Europeans are fearing.
That’s not what you said. The conflicts from the last 10-20 years are rooted in colonialism, the break up of the Ottoman empire, and the rise of single resource economies. The US is certainly the leading imperial power right now, but they didn’t set this stage.
Look up title 10 orders. The president is the commander in chief. If he won’t pull those guardsmen out of there it’s because he doesn’t mind what they’ve done.
The pure fucking irony of you saying that when everything I just suggested is based in existing law and precedent.
We already had our chances at good people. The Democrats kept that from happening. At this point I’m really starting to believe the only choice is to back up, and protest how we elect presidents in the first place. It doesn’t seem to produce a representative of the people. And the more people tell me I have to vote for Biden because of Boogeyman, the more sure I am.
So now we’re moving the goal posts. It’s political capital and not political system.
I agree, what he spends his capital on shows what he cares about. Good thing there’s not some black hole of a situation he’s just dumping capital into right now…
