I am fairly sure that I am being laid off with other Sr. Engineers tomorrow and need some ideas. Basically, I saw a calendar mistake by HR, so oops!...
Yeah as much as I’ve fantasized about going nuclear on past employers (or more recently, when firing a client), it just doesn’t bring any good besides a fleeting moment of feeling superior. It’s not worth it, be the bigger person and keep it professional.
Yeah the solution isn’t no prisons, the solution is better prisons that focus on making folks ready for society again. When that’s not at all possible then lifetime in good living conditions is fine, maybe these facilities are more medically oriented than straight up prisons. Nordic countries are once again showing the way there.
Yeah it’s pretty shit tbh, but also total weekly is 35h max, tons of vacations, etc etc etc. Also very dependant by workplace, depends if the boss is modern or old school, etc. Some people definitely enjoy the long mid-day break, also realistically if the bossman takes you out and orders a bunch of wine, expectations for the afternoon are gonna be low…
Also shit gets weird when you start going south, shops will close from 12:00 to 16:00, morning open at 10/11, it’s maniana maniana. Overall I would rate France not the best country to work in but it’s mostly because you then have to deal with not only French people but also French administration, and F that. Overall work conditions and benefits are good (salaries not so much). I personally GTFO of there and much enjoyed the faster pace where I live now but I’m kinda getting over it and the slower rhythm sounds more tempting now.
Station wagons remain extremely popular in Europe (even though SUVs have eaten a good bit of their share). It’s the most sensible if you need more space than a hatchback without all the stupid compromises from SUVs (also smaller SUVs provide much less space than a good wagon). I’d only prefer a small van like a recent Citroen Berlingo, but they are expensive, older ones are not that economical and also not comfortable/“sexy”.
We have a couple things that run in the family. All men in my direct family (so me, my dad and my brother) can twist our mouths in both directions at once, so upper lip one side lower lip the other side, looks funky. We can also do eyebrow dances with moving only single eyebrows but I think that’s more common.
I’d love to hear about her obscure K-pop, or your strange south American alternative, or whatever really, I’m never gonna say no to at least learning about it and hearing it out, if I don’t like it I’ll just not listen to it again.
I really miss maps. Like, not the objects themselves, I could just buy some nice maps if I wanted to today, but I miss the feeling of exploration you got from navigating using one. You’d have to pay attention to your surroundings, get lost and found again a bunch of times, etc. Totally inefficient but it was adventure. By the time I got to adulthood and could really do my own trips we started getting GPS and all that jazz and it’s just not the same making it to an unknown destination anymore.
Ok buddy, guess I’m dead from all the charcuterie, steak tartare, carpaccio and sushi I’ve eaten in my life and typing this from hell (obviously wouldn’t be heaven, what with the meat eating and all).
Yes that’s fair, I can see how it was interpreted that way. The chicken example I had in mind was a specific one, and the chickens aren’t wild at all just well cared for and extreme care is given to the preparation, I didn’t have wild animals in mind at all which carry a whole bunch of other well known risks, only ones that are farmed in good conditions and used to prepare raw meat dishes every day across the globe.
I drive it regularly when I visit a friend, it’s so funny watching all the comments calling it fake. Well I guess it’s fake in the sense that most Dutch landscapes are “fake” (man-made).
It’s not a city ordinance at all but it is however quite complicated and lots of “grey areas”, the stuff is basically illegal up until the point it magically appears in the coffeeshop, and then it’s illegal over 5g. In any case traveling with it internationally is a big no-no even if it’s between two destinations where it’s legal. This is all very silly of course, hopefully with Germany going legal we’re finally gonna start seeing some progress on the topic, if daddy Germany is ok with it the rest will likely follow.
If you knew in advance about being laid off, how would you YOLO the exit interview?
