There’s hypothetically a bunch of different version of communism for everyone. The thing is, Marx described the problems with capitalism, and some vague sense of what socialism could be, some guidelines of what it should aim for, then kind of left the details up to each individual society to get there how they think is best based on their individual material conditions. He gave his own guesses, but didn’t think he could predict that part fully, it would be up to the people of the future to figure it out and build on. A third world country, rural serf based near fuedal society, like Russia, would have completely different needs from some post-industrial country, like if Germany turned communist, for example. If the world’s sole superpower, the US, turned communist, it would probably be a lot different than communist countries that had to transition under siege neighboring imperialism, like Cuba, North Korea, or Vietnam.

This is just to answer your last question. Don’t think this really addresses your other questions, but just wanted to explain that part, as I’ve had it explained to me before. But I generally agree with you. There should still be some form of democracy but it might look different than what we are used to here in the US or liberal west.

You have to imagine other people have no idea about Marxism but what they’ve heard from US propaganda. When they hear you support China, Cuba, and Vietnam, they just hear you supporting dictator for life Xi Jinping and one party state Cuba and Vietnam. You guys need better answers than this.

So the rule was spamming? They should make that an actual rule then instead of banning people for posting articles supporting their opinion.

You should make spamming too many articles within a certain X time a rule then. I think it needs to be more objective. This is getting into partisan territory.

I guess it’s a combination of spamming plus one point of view. That still doesn’t really strike me as bannable, as most people will post articles they agree with and hence want to share that way. As long as the posted articles are true, then the only issue I see is the spamming part, which is the only thing I agree could be an issue.

You should look up the history of USAID. It would probably make any country nervous when they get involved.

It’s not like it’s all ancient history. Sanctions are ongoing, there was the attempted coup with Operation Gideon, plus the weird attempt with Guaido, propaganda campaigns, etc. and how many things we don’t know about. The US is still meddling. They are the largest empire in the world, the sole superpower. Of course they can do a lot of things and have a lot of affect. Of course Venezuela has a lot of itself to blame for its problems, like not diversifying from oil more, but you’re going too far the other direction and acting as if the US has no effect on its own sphere of influence.

Oh that’s cool. I’m happy that it exists and now kinda sad it’s only owned by one VTT. That would’ve been a good resource for other VTT’s out there.

Same thing with Biden lol. Obama interfered hard to get him elected during the primary. He’s not great, but he’s been surprisingly better than Trump (in every way but the genocide thing and immigration) so hopefully she’s better than expected, too!

Ya this doesn’t sound like a bad lesson tbh, but it needed to have some kind of warning and a way to not participate, plus it should have had all students in the slave auction and not just the black ones, so even the white kids could see what it was like at the time. The needless “n” word could also be dropped lol.

There’s a huge movement to do so that. Look into land back rights and all that. But the Israel Palestine thing is more urgent because it’s better to stop a genocide from happening in progress right now, then to make up for one that has already happened. The only people comfortable with America’s genocide are the same right wing and centrist people supporting Israel right now.

It's been around a year since a lot of us quit Reddit, myself included. I'm happy with Lemmy, but I still feel a bit lost online since leaving the old site. Discussion?

Been thinking of making a post like this for some time, apologies if some of this is not completely relevant: this community seems more like it’s about Reddit the platform/product than Reddit the social “thing”, but I’m sure a lot of people have similar experiences to mine. Maybe on some instances more than others....

Haha ya, I totally get that. For me: I’ve been doing more little projects on my phone (designing games on my off time, researching work problems, etc), started carrying around a journal to write in on my bag, I downloaded the Shonen Jump app and started reading manga for anime I’ve wanted to watch but haven’t gotten around to, and I listen to podcasts not just when I’m driving. Hope some of those suggestions help or kickstart your own idea.

I also want to start carrying a book around with me like I did when I was a kid, because I have such a big list to get through and I have lots of pdfs for rpg books I’ve downloaded but haven’t read. I’ve tried to read them on my phone, and I succeeded with one book but the screen is so small lol. Maybe I need to look for a good e-reader that reads pdfs without straining my eyes, like I heard e-ink readers or something like that do, but apparently not with pdfs, I guess?

Thanks! I’ll look for that one! And you can tell, I really want to avoid returning to my reddit level of online addiction I was at previously. I’m close with Lemmy, but there’s not enough content for me to get there yet lol.
