TheDarkestShark,

Deep Rock Galactic. I kept wanting to toss a flare anytime I walked into a dark room.

TheDarkestShark,

Making me feel lucky my public elementary, middle, and high school all had rock walls. They spanned the whole length of one side of the gym and were around 10 to 15 feet high so you really only climbed laterally, still a lot of fun.

TheDarkestShark,

There was this one game we occasionally played in elementary that had no name, everyone knew what we were doing that day as soon as we walked into the gym, I’ll just call it islands. The gym teacher would split the class in half and put out 6 wrestling mats. Each team started on their own mats and had to traverse to the second and then the third without touching the ground. The mats were spaced about 50 feet apart and we were given a bunch of random objects like pool noodles, a wheeled dolly, a plunger, a few stepping stone rubber pads, and I’m sure some other stuff I’m not remembering.

The objective was to be the first team to get all members on the third island, if anyone touches the ground you had to go back to the first island. It was mainly a team building exercise but my favorite part was to play the pirate. I would take the dolly and plunger and scoot over to the opposing teams side of the gym and taunt them from my ship as you could not physically interfere with the enemy.

Definitely my favorite game, I still have fond memories of that.

Funny though, I have no stand out memories of an activity I hated.

Very few times since I switched off reddit, have I had an “opens post and sees my exact thought displayed at the top of comments” moments.

This is one of the those times.

TheDarkestShark,

Just got this game called Tunic on PS+, currently the free game of the month. Went in thinking this is pretty cute, wonder how long I will stay engaged with this obviously kid targeted game. Turns out, it is about as in depth with the creepy lore and map memorization as hollow knight. The combat can also be quite difficult, it’s an isolated camera so hard to compare to hollow knight there, more dark souls like but much more limited in enemy depth or player abilities.

Thoroughly enjoying it, good progression of skills and unlocks. It has a very unique way of guiding the player through the game, you find these pages throughout the game that when put together slowly form an old school game guide book. Everything from upgrade guides to area maps have to be found, the weirdest part is 98% of the words are in a fictional language and only very specific words are translated like the name of a boss or area. I’ve reached many areas in the game where I know I need to do something to that alter or rock or whatever and I just give up and wait to find the page that shows a picture of it and try to figure it out from there.

Overall a fun game to figure out, it’s the first I’ve played since Subnautica where I am refusing to look any game guides because I want to figure this out myself.

TheDarkestShark,

Fuck, I just guessed this on your other post.

Do I need a new phone for 2FA? (Tad Long)

So recently my work, a mid sized engineering firm, decided to start upgrading their IT security. The rumor is that we have potential DOD work coming our way. Over the past few months there has been multiple company decided changes to our 2 factor authentication mobile app. I willingly installed the app on my phone over a year...

TheDarkestShark,

My company is very good at giving me and my coworkers the best available, my workstation plus my laptop are probably around $5000. That is why it is so hard for me to believe they will not reimburse me for a new phone, I have feeling they do not want to set that precedent.

I currently use a 3rd party app called DUO, previously there were several options for 2FA, txt, call, email, and push notification. Now the only options are push notification (will not work on my phone) and administrator backup code. The IT guy had mentioned the security key option, but he said they would not work on most of our desktops because they are all custom built PC’s, not sure of the specifics on that one though, I might bring that up to him again. I keep saying a good invention would be a little Wifi pager device that’s sole purpose is 2FA.

TheDarkestShark,

Thanks for the advice,

My takeaway is that I should look into a 2FA dongle and offer it up as an alternative. I mentioned in my post that the main IT guy looked into that and said it would not work on most machines, not sure if someone has any insight on that. My company started building custom machines a few years back for the CAD users and everyone ended up getting one eventually. My PC runs windows 11 and is pretty much a gaming computer from 2020, I9 processor, a 2080 super, and some random motherboard. What reason could there be that my computer would not accept one of these dongles?

TheDarkestShark,

Oh they knew my phone was outdated, and so did I based on a direct email to me but I was not made aware of the consequences for non compliance and therefore could not react accordingly. That’s why I am in the spot I’m at, willing to fold but still looking for alternate routes.

TheDarkestShark,

Update 1.

Talked to my boss and he said dont worry about my upcoming timesheet because he can fill it out for me but he will not do that indefinitely so a new phone is required. He also told me that I can start using the phone bill stipend, which is 40 bucks a month so that almost covers my bill plus a phone payment plan.

I asked about the Yubikey and he told me that in the next policy change we are going to remove usb access on all of our machines to further comply with security demands, so that would defeat the purpose of the 2FA dongle.

Guess I’m getting a new phone. I looked into the lineageOS route and it seems I would have to factory reset my phone anyway and that is probably my biggest problem with getting a new phone anyway so I won’t be attempting that.

TheDarkestShark,

It’s funny, as an american, the farther right I move on the map the less beers I have heard of.

TheDarkestShark,

Is this an appropriate time to say Okay Groomer?

TheDarkestShark,

I have a mug at work but I prefer to drink coffee out of my thermos, on occasion I’ll fill the mug up with ice and pour some red bull over it. This is exclusively how I drink it for the first few sips. It started as a joke I would do mid conversation with some coworkers and somewhere along the line it just hit me that the first few sips are so much better this way.

Don’t murder me.

TheDarkestShark,

I just want to say I find it hilariously creepy that the image generator put both the Nike and under armor logos on her shirt and in the correct spots.

I have no guess other than The Ocean by Zeppelin, since I know that is probably not it could you please do that one, for me?

TheDarkestShark,

NGL, I kept waiting for an outro scene where they played The Wanderer by Dion while one of the characters walks into the wasteland with dogmeat by their side. Seriously missed opportunity, they probably used it for a trailer that I missed and didnt want to overuse the song.

TheDarkestShark,

Not sure what the politicians in question have against it, but my apprehension to lab grown meat is the possibilty of the corporations making our food even worse for us for the sake of profit. If you think our food is bad now just wait until some greedy fuck can cut corners on the molecular level.

Also I dont understand why banning this is seen as such a negative thing in the US. A lot of European countries have already taken this step because most of those countries already have strict laws against GMO’s, glyphosate, growth hormones, and “enhanced” grains.

Less factory farming is obviously a great thing but to what end? To me I see this as another opportunity for our replacement food to be worse for us than the original and not be realized until way later. So why not slow down the introduction of this technology until we can prove that it can be done safely.

TheDarkestShark, (edited )

Our hiring manager just flat out sucks at his job, rarely ever see him interviewing people and I know of several coworkers who have dropped their friends resumes on his desk and he never follows up with these recommendations. One of his main jobs is to keep in contact with our student co-ops and let them know their start dates after each semester, he doesn’t reach out to them and actually dodges their calls. Now here is the real shocker, he is untouchable because he is the former owners son.

So, I noticed the past few months he’s been interviewing a lot more than the past few years, pretty obvious because he gives a building tour after each interview. I was talking to my secretary about it and she told me he got a real ass chewing because current ownership found out, after the fact, that his request to work from home ALL OF DECEMBER was actually a request to work from my vacation house in Florida, dudes barely older than I am and he just lives life on easy mode.

Edit: Hope you see this, Fuck you Kyle!

TheDarkestShark,

As someone who holds both left and right views depending on the issue, I understand wanting to lean conservative. Social programs, better infrastructure, and higher taxes make sense when you can trust your government to spend your money wisely. The problem is they don’t and people in government are incentivised to not do their job efficiently because then they would lose funding or their job entirely. And lately, the right has no concern over lowering taxes for the average citizen or increasing government efficiency despite that being one of core fundamentals of the party.

TheDarkestShark,

How many times does it need to be said. Make Titanfall 3.

Cowards

TheDarkestShark,

I guess I’ll just jump into the nearest body of water, even better if it’s at night.

TheDarkestShark,

This happened to me but with the God of War Valhalla DLC. Like I know the game is not that hard but there is a natural progression through the game of unlocking new skills and weapons. The DLC starts you off with everything unlocked and there are so many combo moves, it doesn’t help that you have to really conserve health through the whole thing.
