Don’t worry, not being able to turn left is all right

Often we say infinite growth (capitalism) is not sustainable and reasonable. Can we also say infinite progressivism is also not sustainable and reasonable?

This question is social/political, and meant to trigger a nice debate on the negatives of imbalanced infinite progressivism we seem to be heading in social and technological spheres, ignoring science, practicality and reason....

They’re opposite. One is about everyone trying to get larger pieces of pie. The pie is only so big though, so it means people miss out, and it only ends when one person has the entire pie to themselves.

“Progressivism” is about ensuring everyone gets as close to the same amount of pie as possible. Once everyone has equal access to the pie, there’s nothing more be done.

It should be pretty clear why one is more sustainable than the other

The joys of being a 2E student.

Gifted, with undiagnosed ADHD.

Flew in to university without ever learning how to organise my time. Smashed every exam university put in front of me. Failed every form of written assessment that required time management and planning, instead of just knowing the answers. Even after they put me on academic probation and I understood how serious it was, I couldn’t fix it, because I didn’t know I had ADHD at the time, and had never learned the organisational skills required, because I’d never needed them to succeed academically before.

That comes down to infrastructure though.

My workplace has a bike storage room, change rooms, showers, irons and lockers, so the problems you’re describing as impractical are quite practical for me.

It won’t be the norm for workplaces for a long time, but my city also has semi public spaces that offer the same in the CBD. Basically, for a subsidised monthly fee, you have access to the facilities I described above, in a dedicated bike storage space. And that could easily become normalised

Last time I was applying for work, asking about end of trip facilities was one of my routine questions, and they always had a good answer to it

Oh, that’s good to know!

I’ve been with my current employer for longer than I’ve been cycling to work, so I don’t have any other points of comparison.

It’s really cool! Not much practical use for anything, but it makes the bird nerd in me happy :)

I only set it up today, so it hasn’t even been 24 hours yet, but 24/7 is the plan!

We haven’t bothered with water proofing as it’s set up on the back deck of my house, which is under a roof. We do have a plastic case for the Pi though, just to protect it from incidental environmental issues, but it’s by no means water sealed.

Just a re-purposed desktop USB mic at the moment. But I’ve been told that it works fine with the cheapest crappiest USB mics you can find, so I’ve ordered a couple of those, and will take the desktop mic back inside once I’ve got them setup

To OP, I’d have thought better mikes would allow identification of quieter calls, and be better at avoiding misidentifying non-bird noise, so might still have value.

I’ll get back to you when I’ve got enough data to compare a cheap mic with a good mic

ada,
@ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Just a tip. Double check the identification algorithm. Mine defaulted to the older, less accurate model. Things improved a lot once I changed it over!

If you think you look better with it on, then chances are you do look better with it on, because you’ll feel hotter and more confident! So wear it :)

Hot. Damned hot.

30c to 32c is my ideal

I don’t use jelly, because as an Australian, jelly means something very different to me. Jelly on a sandwich is… just no…

Queer folk don’t owe their oppressors space, especially, whilst their oppressors are still actively targeting them.

On further reflection, it was not the first time I've been accused of Purple Prose.

It was my American Literature teacher, that haggard old fuck how I wished I could have been there to see her face when she got fired for striking a student over something petty, I can only imagine it was a lot like the look she gave me when I thanked her for her words but better. She didn’t like my paper over whatever we were...

The things you say!

ada,
@ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

You burden me with your questions. You’d have me tell no lies. You’re always asking what it’s all about, but don’t listen to my replies

ada,
@ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

This time, I realize, I’m going to shoot through and leave you

So, would you say your purple prose gave you away? Unbelievable!

is there an arch Fork where I can compile every package myself?

In order to be able to Further configure my system, I am looking for a fork of my current OS (artix with openRC as init system) in which i am able to compile every package from source in order to Further configure it with make flags. I am currently not using gentoo, and because the packages in its default repos are only updated...

This is kinda the opposite of what you’re asking for, but might address the reason that you’re asking the question?

CachyOS is an Arch based distro, but it precompiles many arch packages (and some AUR packages) in several versions, optimised for either x86_64-v3 or x86_64-v4.

So if your goal is “optimised” rather than “compile yourself” it might be worth looking at
