Honestly I hope this bites them hard. Theyā€™ve done way way worse to small businesses and competition for decades now.

b3an,
@b3an@lemmy.world avatar

And that money then went to the employees right? Or there were fines issued to companies for that right? Neither of those are in the article from what I saw.

The article doesnā€™t say thatā€¦ And it also makes a weird segue into if communism is the answer. This article is weird tbh.

CEO of Google Says It Has No Solution for Its AI Providing Wildly Incorrect Information (futurism.com)

You know how Googleā€™s new feature called AI Overviews is prone to spitting out wildly incorrect answers to search queries? In one instance, AI Overviews told a user to use glue on pizza to make sure the cheese wonā€™t slide off (pssstā€¦please donā€™t do this.)...

b3an,
@b3an@lemmy.world avatar

Heā€™s done a great job nosediving Google too. I have relied on them in the past but they stopped being competitive or improving. Search results, literally their originā€¦ Is so shit now. Iā€™ve moved to other tools. I pulled the plug on we hosting after they neutered ā€˜unlimitedā€™ storage, even if I was in the percent which probably used the least storage. I just liked having the option. You canā€™t call them on the phone. They donā€™t protect email privacy. Their translate used to be my go to also. Itā€™s not improved in years despite people crowdsourcing improved translation. Itā€™s just a pile of enshittified crap. Worse than it was before.

ā€œYou thought we were hard the first time? Get. HARDER.ā€

b3an,

They wonā€™t answer you because itā€™s a baseless troll statement they made. Muhbothsides! šŸ¤£šŸ¤£ love it

@b3an@lemmy.world avatar

Fuck Broadcom. I liked VMware and their products and actually paid for them as a consumer. Broadcom is a ham-fisted money grabber and cares little about anything else. This will not end well for any businesses they serve to. Why? *Maya Angelou: ā€˜When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.ā€™*Theyā€™re focused on milking the cow dry, not spending money on anything (despite their R&D claims). They have a history and have straight up said who they are before, and said who theyā€™re planning to continue to be. Flee while you can.

Companies need to stop using TWITTER for anything. Theyā€™re walling up the garden we built, and itā€™s a cesspool of bots and run by a megalomaniac charlatan.

b3an,
@b3an@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, not like the working classes arenā€™t starved of actual cost of living wages and have to scale back everything in the ā€˜age of subscription feesā€™. This also isnā€™t limited to NL.šŸ„²

I too would like to change from Alexa echos to something else. But I donā€™t know what devices are readily with omni-directional mics and easy to migrate to. I use Alexa for simplicity but would gladly fill the gap with Home assistant and recommendations on good replacement mic/speakers.

b3an,
@b3an@lemmy.world avatar

Agreed. I canā€™t seem to find something that I can migrate to which doesnā€™t require a huge reprogramming effort. I would love local control but donā€™t want to spend my Saturdays and freetime struggling to figure out why itā€™s suddenly not working. Alexa is shitty and doesnā€™t have tons of flexible control, but itā€™s ā€˜uptimeā€™ is very good, and does well for playing audio for the fam. self noteā€¦ Get away from Spotify while Iā€™m at it šŸ˜

b3an,
@b3an@lemmy.world avatar

Donā€™t take it personally. Itā€™s just a few trolls who think theyā€™re superior. Your question is valid and Iā€™m also interested in alternatives too. I have home assistant, but itā€™s another thing entirely to more easily swap out Alexa for some equally well supported mic/speaker hardware. Iā€™m sure this will change with people being motivated not to give Amazon subscription fees and ā€˜to finallyā€™ cut the online requirements. I would love local voice control so that Iā€™m not reliant on phone apps if the internet goes out.

Blinken hints at US sanctions against ICC over arrest warrants for Israeli leaders (www.independent.co.uk)

Antony Blinken has indicated that he will work with American lawmakers on potential sanctions against the International Criminal Court after it sought arrest warrants for Israelā€™s prime minister and defence minister, setting the stage for a confrontation with the world court in the Hague.

Yeaaaah they were not calling out you specificallyā€¦ xD Theyā€™re saying: ā€œWhy would Biden do this?ā€

b3an,

This is disheartening because itā€™s true. šŸ˜

b3an,
@b3an@lemmy.world avatar

Throw in Turkey too.

How Turkey became Putinā€™s ā€˜pit stopā€™ for selling camouflaged fuel to the EU

Moscow bagged ā‚¬3 billion through a sanctions loophole that allows Turkey to relabel Russian oil and ship it to the EU.

b3an,
@b3an@lemmy.world avatar

Correct. While there is little to no progress on it, officially I believe they are still trying to be. That said, I was definitely thinking about NATO when I wrote that. Apologies for the mistake.

b3an,
@b3an@lemmy.world avatar

I agree that they need to better explain what the hell happened without making the fucking media break it down for us:

Apple says iOS 17.5.1 fixes ā€˜rareā€™ bug that caused deleted photos to return

It is notable how quickly Apple pushed this fix out. But more detail and addressing consumer concerns would go a longer way than this single explanation they provided:

This update provides important bug fixes and addresses a rare issue where photos that experienced database corruption could reappear in the Photos library even if they were deleted.

Itā€™s like Bernie Sanders said:

ā€œBut please, do not insult the intelligence of the American people by attempting to distract us from the immoral and illegal policies of your extremist and racist government. ā€¦ It is not antisemitic to hold you accountable for your actions.ā€

Sanders hits back at Netanyahu: ā€˜It is not antisemitic to hold you accountableā€™

Honest question, what do we do that we are now living longer, and have better quality of life and medical advancements? With AI progressing exponentially, this will likely increase average lifespans in developed countries. You might be arguing against your own comments here when you hit 65 and realize you still maintain mental acuity and are thriving.

Personally, I feel like we should be spending our time and focus on fixing a number of other issues. Namely lobbying, special interest groups tied to anti-consumer companies, ā€˜slap on the wristā€™ fines for billion dollar companies, predatory lending, student loans. I mean the list goes on. These things arenā€™t an age problem, itā€™s a corruption problem.

b3an, (edited )
@b3an@lemmy.world avatar

Then you are not apprised of history.

In 1900, the average life expectancy of a newborn was 32 years. By 2021 this had more than doubled to 71 years.

But life expectancy has increased at all ages. Infants, children, adults, and the elderly are all less likely to die than in the past, and death is being delayed.

This remarkable shift results from advances in medicine, public health, and living standards. Along with it, many predictions of the ā€˜limitā€™ of life expectancy have been broken.

Iā€™m not saying weā€™ll be doubling lifespans, but if you looked at the big picture, weā€™ve made HUGE strides and advances in a very short period of time. Especially if you consider how long humans have been around. Now we have CRISPR gene editing for example, and very obviously artifical intelligence/machine learning will grow exponentially fast.

This is not ā€œmagical thinkingā€ about ā€œfar-off technologicalā€ theory. This is modern day and recent history, and already we expect global life expectancy to increase by nearly 5 years by 2050 despite geopolitical, metabolic, and environmental threats.

I also didnā€™t say anything about ignoring policy in lieu of science, and pointed out several areas I personally feel could use attention. However that is my own opinionā€¦ Just like you on running/not for office.

It is also clear that some aged people are ā€˜sharpā€™ to the end, just as some can be debilitated earlier to disease and age. Sensible policy is also welcome. I just donā€™t think we should lump everyone together using an arbitrary metric.

Once they have everything, then what happens next? If there is nobody to buy things

Turkey simply relabels Russian oil products and exports them to Europe, research indicates (www.intellinews.com)

More evidence that Turkey simply relabels Russian oil products and re-exports them to Europe as Turkish emerges from a new study by the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) and the Centre for the Study of Democracy (CSD)....

I totally understand! Speaking of my own use, itā€™s particularly nice because I get more relevant returns and there is the lens feature. also I use the summarization for a lot of things. Very useful
