Happy Birthday AS13030 🥳

So happy to have an ISP that fights for access to fiber and defends net neutrality.

Oh, did I mention the amazingly fast and reliable 25 Gbits/s connection they offer at a reasonable price?

turned into the Trump fundraising club

Musk co-hosted with David Sacks a secret dinner of a dozen folks including Nelson Peltz, Peter Thiel, Steven Mnuchin & Rupert Murdoch.

The discussion at times centered on how attendees could give money to Trump outside of public view.

I still read a lot of "paper" books and take A LOT of notes which often slows me down. My process is to transcribe from the book, there has to be a better way.

Does anyone have any apps that are very streamlined for taking notes while reading on paper & automatic appending to a note?

Update: Actually, Highlighted is exactly that. Capture OCR highlights from books, export a TXT/Markdown/CSV…

Thank you @damirstuhec so much for building Highlighted 🙌🙏

@Kensan Wish it would be more streamlined.

Open App, Tap Book Currently Reading
Loop {
Opens Camera to record
Select Text to Automatically add to the currently book’s note
}

Switching back between Photos, Camera and Notes app is a bit painful.

« reassured » US officials about its ability to remotely disable the EUV machines in Taiwan when the Dutch government met with the company on the threat.

The Netherlands has run simulations on a possible invasion in order to better assess the risks, they added.

🚀 Pretty cool overview by Tim Dodd of the design of two German rockets: #RFA One and Isar's #Spectrum 🇩🇪🇪🇺

I had the chance to visit the Spectrum assembly hall so already knew about the amazing 3D printing of their thrust chambers, but didn't appreciate how different the design philosophy was between both companies.

RFA is heavily leveraging an automotive supply chain to reduce cost and offer a scalability advantage compared to other aerospace companies.

well, I wondered how many Starlink satellites would fall out of orbit after the solar storm, and we have an answer: somewhere between 7 and 13

fj,

@gsuberland I don't think that's related?
The ones that have re-entered were already scheduled to be de-orbited ahead of the solar storm.

~100 more Starlink v1 satellites will be burning up in the upper atmosphere in the next 6 months, bringing up the total number of de-orbited Starlink satellites to ~500 out of 6000 launched
https://api.starlink.com/public-files/Commitment%20to%20Space%20Sustainability.pdf

De-orbiting satellites by burning them up did work when the volume of satellites was small, but already 10% of aerosol particules in the stratosphere contain aluminum/other metals.
The problem is only going to get worse with the launch of megaconstellations https://www.pnas.org/doi/full/10.1073/pnas.2313374120

fj,
@fj@mastodon.social avatar

7 Starlink satellites burned up in the higher atmosphere yesterday.

Unlike what some are saying, these are satellites that were already planned to re-enter ahead of the solar storm and were launched in 2020/2021.

fj,
@fj@mastodon.social avatar

@doc From their own press releases, it's 5 years maximum.

> Atmospheric drag at these altitudes
will deorbit a satellite naturally in 5 years or less
