The thing is like this: I have a windows laptop I use for work, and a Linux desktop machine. I have a single screen keyboard etc. and I switch between the two using a docking station. But, I wonder if there is a way for me to “cut the middle man” and just plug/unplug my linux machine....
I have thought about this on and off for quite a few years now, and I was just wondering what people here have done while maintaining account / device security....

You do it essentially while joining the domain. If you hit the “work” option instead of “home” it immediately goes to a “sign into your domain” screen.
More efficient manufacturing, falling battery costs and intense competition are lowering sticker prices for battery-powered models to within striking distance of gasoline cars.
Zero reason why companies haven’t done this yet other then sheer ignorance or greed from oil, or both.
Or maybe it’s because hydrogen tanks take up a fuck ton of space and are impractical because of it. The Toyota Mirai has a horribly small trunk for a vehicle it’s size. In anything smaller and you have almost no trunk. And retrofitting it into a car not designed for it? Good luck getting any reasonably sized tank in there without hacking away at the floor and making your own.
24H2 is supposed to make it a lot better, but when I first used the translation layer on my M1 Macbook through parallels it ran things pretty well. But that was also an M1 Macbook Pro.
Waking from hibernation is sooo much slower than waking from sleep. Apple silicon macs are very efficient in their S0 standby so they’ll go days before entering hibernation. Kinda odd that they bring that up now that Apple has fully transitioned to ARM machines where this isn’t really an issue. That said S0 standby on this 2019 Macbook I have for work is dogshit.
Gnome is a little too minimal and ends up being kinda difficult to use because of it. Especially when you’re used to windows. I tried it again for like a week when Ubuntu 24 came out and said “fuck this shit” and installed KDE.
The Intel MacBook waking up from hibernation is about 30 seconds to get to the login prompt, 30 seconds for the login prompt to actually work, then 10-15 seconds after entering the password to get to a usable desktop environment with the wifi generally connecting within that window. It’s now awful, but traditional S1-3 standby was so much better. S0 standby is great if you’re frequently opening and closing the device, but is unusable on higher power devices.
But that’s with only 8 gigs of ram on this MacBook, the more ram the longer it takes. The 32 gigs of ram in my actual work laptop (ThinkPad P1 11th gen i9) takes about a minute to wake from hibernation, and like 2 minutes for it to fully get situated. If I do that on battery that’s about 3-5% of my battery just waking from hibernation.

4th Gen. Intel only supports DDR3 which maxes out at 32 gigs of ram across the 4 sockets. You’d need to upgrade your entire CPU/MOBO/RAM to get more than 32.
Getting a new mobo you can only sidegrade at best. You could get z97 for M.2 NVME support, but not more ram.
This is something that I actually interesting culturally. Here in the US multi generational family homes are essentially considered a bad thing, but down in Costa Rica where my family is Multi generational homes are maybe not a goal per se, but something expected as your parents age, or as your kids grow up. You’ll grow up, move out for school, to get a job, and as you get older you’ll try to stick next to your family, and eventually your parents move back in so you can take care of them.
Obviously doing this out of necessity is bad, but a fun culture difference to observe.
