you know it's a corporate phishing test email when they have to add a fake “this message has originated from an external source” banner because they had to make the sender trusted

my friend made a cool twitter thread about mixbox, which is this incredible colour-mixing algorithm that behaves like real-life paint https://twitter.com/cirkelnio/status/1793970960196055141

why are sugar-free noncaffeinated soft drinks an almost nonexistent product category in germany. what does this say about german culture

what's so strange about the current ai goldrush to me is that almost every implementation of it in an existing product is exactly the same. every product i use is trying to convince me to use its new ai feature. but it's like… the same feature. in every product. it's so… boring?

i recently bought a Yamaha CBX-K1XG. it's an old MIDI controller keyboard from 1995 that also has a built-in Yamaha XG/General MIDI tone generator (i.e. it's also a MIDI-controlled synthesizer). it seems nobody else out there has recorded its demo song… so now i have!

Video consisting of a static photo of a Yamaha CBX-K1XG, a beige plastic mini-keyboard MIDI controller with 37 keys (the original box and an unoriginal copy of the manual are also visible in the image), with the audio being a recording of the device's built-in demo song.

my morally unassailable position on the israel–gaza war is that knowingly creating and maintaining the conditions in which up to two million people are likely starve to death is not defensible under any circumstances and that “genocide” is not an inappropriate word to use for it

i think rust is great, easily my favourite programming language, and i agree with rust advocates on many things, but the sort of culture war-y way some people approach it gives me the ick, no matter which side you're on

i got addicted to twitter again and i am Regretting it. there's all this panic about how social media is bad for kids or whatever, but i think more specifically algorithmic timelines are bad for everyone and should probably be limited in some way

touchHLE (my iOS emulator project) is gonna end up in fork hell and there's already people uploading builds with no source included in shady places. so… what if i added a build step that literally embeds the entire source code into the executable 🤔 i think it would be good

i don't love the tone of this article but i agree with a lot of what it says about gnu automake. my experience with it in php was awful. it belongs in the dustbin of history https://felipec.wordpress.com/2024/04/04/xz-backdoor-and-autotools-insanity/

haskell is really the universe brain language because it doesn't really have mutable data types or assignment, so it ought to be useless, but the type system is so powerful that you can just reimplement them from first principles as a library and it's almost convenient to use!

as an art appreciator i think non-irrecoverably damaging a unique original physical artwork as a political protest about its subject can be respectable sometimes. you know, the damage adds to the work and becomes an inescapable part of its history

an exciting personal report from the world of "e-identification" (sweden)

in sweden, life revolves around the "mobile bankid". this is a service owned by major swedish banks that provides a smartphone app equivalent to a state id card, but which can be used to log into websites

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, WINE/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, WINE plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning WINE system—

if you're a googler and are designing the next nine build systems that will be imposed on the software industry, please name them after the circles of hell from dante's inferno. it won't make anyone like them more but maybe they'd earn a begrudging respect at least
