Gaza officials say the death toll from Israeli air strikes on a camp housing displaced Palestinians near Rafah in southern part of the strip has risen to 40....
Too lazy to see CNN, BBC, CBC all reporting the same? If you take the IDF’s word alone maybe their acknowledgment of civilian deaths in the strike will suffice?
I don’t get why even capitalists are ok with the economy being so focused on investor hype. Whatever happened to companies making profit by providing valuable goods and services? We don’t even factor the consumer in anymore, it’s all just executives trying to woo investors no matter what it does to the product or service quality being offered.
I’m a socialist, but you’d think there’d be some capitalism advocates that are anti stock market at this point.
A system doesn’t need people to get together and collude in order to manifest certain behaviors. The market is regulated either by legislation or by people’s actions. I’m wondering why pro-capitalists have no intention to regulate this or change their behaviors.
Nobody cares what investors think, games are an artform and the PC market is most accessible to small creators. Yeah investors care about the things you say and so we might not get “action game with rpg mechanics and crafting 14 battle pass edition” on PC until they milk console sales, but there’s plenty of amazing content that’s PC first
when a huge multinational corporation worth more than the GDP of many nations organizes their resources using a plan decided by executives, and starts to vertically integrate to control their supply chain, and reaps the cost savings, that’s just good capitalism.
No organization that’s publicly owned could ever vertically integrate and make efficient use of resources, no, you need a dictatorship where the wealthiest have all the power for that kind of thing to work
The reason markets trend toward monopoly is that it’s so ineffective
It’s like they don’t realize that having non-violent ways of affecting change are important because otherwise people will turn to violent ways after a certain point.
I think it’s fair to acknowledge the additional strain caused by immigration and to acknowledge that halting it would cool things down a bit, but also to recognize all of the additional moral and economic issues with doing so.
Canada needs immigration, and also has a moral duty to allow immigration from parts of the world we’ve helped to place in dire situations w.r.t climate and economy, and the solution is to better invest in housing and related infrastructure, but I think it’s alienating to people which can still be saved from falling into the right wing pipeline to ask them to deny that more people equals more demand.
Amputation is a way to deal with a rash, whether or not it’s the most logical way.
You’re telling on yourself quite a bit here. Your mental health doesn’t have to suffer if you find a “biologically mature” woman attractive but after a certain age if you’re seeing a “hot woman” and not “a young girl” there definitely is some deviation from the norm.
We’re talking about sexual attraction to children that don’t know how to file their taxes and are just learning what it means to be an adult. If your sexual attraction to someone is purely physical and not affected by your rational mind telling you that they’re a kid then there really is a bit of a disconnect there.
Maybe you’re closer in age to them than I am, there’s certainly a range of “adult ages” where people are still developing mentally, but when you’re old enough that you’re finding a woman SEXUALLY attractive who is the age of your daughter or your friends’ daughters that’s a red flag and worth some introspection.
I’m really not trying to engage here but if you’re appealing to what makes biological sense then killing your sexual rivals and responding violently to aggression or stress are also perfectly normal and should be allowed by your reasoning.
You’re jumping through a lot of hoops to justify sexual relationships between people of vast maturity level and power imbalances.
The defining feature of human civilization is that we move beyond biological impulses
Point is we treat those psychological violent urges and don’t brush them off as natural. We teach people how to cope with them. We don’t spend an awful lot of time justifying those impulses.
Humans cooperated and formed large confederations long before capitalism and liberalism were ideas.
It’s true that unequal and selfish organisations have often consolidated power and squashed other organisations but we’ve also seen humanity going the opposite way many times before.
To shrug our shoulders and say humans are inherently greedy so socialism can’t work is a cop out. We’ve dismantled unequal power structures many times before and we can do it again
I feel like if an LLM spat this out every time the word “Turk” is mentioned they’d do a few more iterations before launch but in any comment thread on Reddit or Lemmy we get this wonderful reverse Turing test
