lolcatnip,

Only the presumption of innocence by the court is important to our legal system. Anyone not part of the trial has no obligation to presume any defendant is innocent.

lolcatnip,

I feel like if browser history was invented today people would have the same reaction to it.

Robot cars can be crashed with tinfoil and painted cardboard (www.theregister.com)

A team of researchers from prominent universities – including SUNY Buffalo, Iowa State, UNC Charlotte, and Purdue – were able to turn an autonomous vehicle (AV) operated on the open sourced Apollo driving platform from Chinese web giant Baidu into a deadly weapon by tricking its multi-sensor fusion system, and suggest the...

lolcatnip,

What is the purpose of accountability other than to force people to do better? If the lack of accountability doesn’t stop a computer from outperforming a human, why worry about it?

lolcatnip, (edited )

That is simply not true. The law since basically forever had held that manufacturers are liable if their product malfunctions and hurts someone when it’s being operated in accordance with their instructions.

Edit: I hope all y’all who think the rule of law doesn’t exist are gonna vote against the felony party.

lolcatnip,

I’m from Seattle. I don’t even need to watch it to know the police here are murderous thugs.

lolcatnip,

I assume they’re all going to just ignore him, since he has no power to make them do anything.

lolcatnip,

OMG, so evil!

lolcatnip,

There’s the “Google can do no right” attitude I come here for!

lolcatnip,

I love Gimp but I would never suggest it as a Photoshop alternative for professional users.

lolcatnip,

Now “forced pregnancy Republicans”, too.

lolcatnip,

Republicans are scum and they’re tired of pretending they’re not.

lolcatnip,

Suppose you work for an email provider and you agree not to talk to law enforcement about your customers’ data without a subpoena. Seems pretty legit to me.

lolcatnip,

That’s what I had in mind, yes. A blanket ban sounds super shady.

lolcatnip,

I’ve lost the ability to stop media playing. Fortunately I have a Google Home with a pause button.

lolcatnip,

My vote is for bone cancer. Just do an image search and you’ll see what I mean.

lolcatnip,

I think if you’re trying to estimate the odds of an impending civil war, you’ll do a much better job if you take into account how widespread calls for it are, rather than simply noting that there are always a few calls for civil war.

lolcatnip,

What makes you think a civil war outside the military wouldn’t also be taking place inside the military?

lolcatnip, (edited )

Everyone doesn’t have to decide a war is preferable, just a critical mass. And it probably won’t be a war like you’re imagining, with battles and such, but rather a whole lot of terrorism and assassinations. Only a fool would attack a well-armed group directly when there are so many soft targets all over the place. Most Trumpanzees are dumb as bricks, but there are enough of them with a basic knowledge of military tactics that they won’t just throw themselves into a meat grinder.

lolcatnip,

Think of how many times you can trick a dog that trusts you before it starts to figure things out, and consider that Jones’ audience is more loyal and less intelligent than a typical dog.

Sometimes a program is slow to start up because it’s so boated that just loading it from the disk takes multiple seconds. Wasting a few kB doesn’t hurt anything, but if you’re doing it thousands of times in one program, your users are gonna have a bad time.

lolcatnip,

Those downvotes are people’s way of telling you that your comment is so comically wrong it’s not even worth a rebuttal. I agree with them.

lolcatnip,

Yawn.

lolcatnip,

It’s not funny at all if you know any actual cyclists or vegans.

lolcatnip, (edited )

Jan 6 almost succeeded.

lolcatnip,

On a side note: I love how on the one hand we get stories like this about American consumers having absurd monthly credit payments and barely any cash on hand, but at the same time we get stories and even Fed numbers saying consumer credit is doing fine actually.

I can only assume the Fed and government agencies make a point of only reporting metrics that show everything is fine. Lying with data is easy if you’re in control of how it’s summarized.
