Unite, Labour’s biggest trade union backer, has refused to endorse the party’s general election manifesto, saying it does not go far enough on protecting workers’ rights and jobs in the oil and gas industry.

I thought we were going Green these days? Not supporting fossil fuel industries.

Hopefully this loses him the grey vote. Third place please. Doesn’t even deserve to be in opposition.

Fair. But before the end of any peace process when they know there will be no peace process is the equivalent to saying we’re kicking the can down the road.

Peace process aside, do Labour want to recognise Palestine or not? Ireland, Spain, Norway want to and so have. But it sounds like Labour don’t want to with these words.

Additionally do Labour want to instruct their future UN representative to admit Palestine as a full member? Or do they want to wait for an impossible situation to transpire in the distant future?

I will be the most surprised person in the world if their position changes.

Hypothetically, though, if you thought that recognising Palestine now might hinder, rather than help, any eventual peace process (I’m not saying that this is what I think, to be clear), would you still want to go ahead with that recognition?

I would decline to recognise. But: I would make it very clear why that is. For example I would say, “we refuse to recognise the Palestinian state because we don’t believe they are capable of functioning as a state with or without considerable help from the international community and without such a functioning state peace negotiations would fail”.

Something like that. But instead we get “now is not the time”. Well why is it not the time. We’re not fucking idiots, tell us. “It’s just not the time”. Oh ok it’s like that.

Are we suggesting defederating everyone on lemmy.ml? Or just certain users that break feddit.uk’s rules? Sorry I am not up to speed on how to defederate. I would say defederate single users (if you can) who break the rules but also track how many you need to defederate per instance to decide if it’s just not worthwhile and instead defederate the whole instance. For example if you end up defederating 10 users a month then… meh… that’s not so bad. But if you need to do 10 a day then fuck that. You decide what the appropriate numbers are, mine are hypothetical.

If they’re not breaking our rules then forget about them. It’s a losing battle to change their minds so just workaround them.

Having said that, I do also think we should stop calling them tankies as a pergorative. If we are complaining that they don’t have basic respect for their users then we should probably set an example and not stoop to name calling.

Feel free to call me a cunt 😜.

Jeremy Corbyn enters the War:

Who do you think. You are kidding. Mr. Starmer? If you think we’re not running for election. We. Are the Left. Who will stop your little game. We. Are the Left. Who will make you think again. 'Cause who. Do you think. You are kidding Mr. Starmer? If you think old Labour’s done?

They’ve spent the best part of thirty years cashing in. Why stop now? Seriously? People love the music they made in the 70s 80s.

Their grandkids need new shoes too.

Starmer on July 5th:

We’ve seen the desperation that fourteen year’s of Tory chaos has brought us. They’ve even stooped so low as to lie in order to gain votes. Now that I am your prime minister I promise I will never lie and I will work tirelessly to improve the country for everyone.

Heckling news journo:

What about HumanPenguin’s suggestion about making it illegal to lie in politics?

Starmer:

Now is not the time to introduce laws when our country is hurting, our children are hurting, our NHS is hurting after fourteen years of Tory chaos. We need to heal the division and come together. I’ve said that we won’t lie and you should just trust me.

That’s kinda pretty much how it will go, I think.

To be fair, so did Starmer.

I agree the moderator had a hard time getting anything of basic value from either candidate. But I wouldn’t go so far as to say she encouraged Sunak’s lies. She just wanted to get it over with.

mannycalavera,
@mannycalavera@feddit.uk avatar

He wanted to make it the slogan of the campaign and I think it probably will be, despite this revelation from the Treasury. Starmer really should have challenged this more robustly… or at all.
