Our internet bill has gone up by a little over 150% since we moved house less than two years ago. Same provider, same plan.

Apparently this massive increase was completely unavoidable, and purely attributed to something the provider refers to only as “cost of living”.

You know what definitely causes a cost of living increase? A 150% increase in utility charges.

Time to switch.

@avoca All that privately rented housing stock wouldn’t just disappear though. There would suddenly be a lot more housing available for the state to provide to folk like you, so you’d have more choice of where to live, not less.

Currently if you want to rent privately you’re competing with a surplus of other renters who can’t afford to buy AND usually paying off the landlord’s mortgage on the house in a market where the supply is artificially constrained by property investors.

It’s hilarious to me that when YouTube copied TikTok for Shorts, they also carried over the little music/audio credit. Except in YouTube it only ever says “🎵Original sound”, because if it’s not, they take the video down.

A huge group of gamers were ready to burn down Sony last week for a business decision that prevented a chunk of players from being able to easily access a game.

Watching that same community today guffawing and dismissing people who want more accessible design in games is a stark reminder how much ableism there is around the gaming world.

People asking for less minuscule UI text are met with “lol wut is ur tiny TV bro?” and “just sit closer”.

Super disappointing.

“Um, do you know how much it costs to add resizeable text to a UI? Developers can’t afford that.”

Meanwhile their “solution” is for players to just spend a grand on a huge TV.

I should never watch screen adaptations of books I love. Dune is probably the exception to that. But finished 3 Body Problem yesterday and haven’t felt that disappointed since Ender’s Game.

@markboulton @peterme @apolaine Netflix adaptations seem to have this recurring problem of trying to jam everything into too few episodes. Presumably it’s some combination of the limited budgets, short production schedules and a lack of faith in Netflix not to immediately cancel it if season 1 isn’t a mega-hit.

Just learned that Apple Music on the PlayStation only shuffles the first 100 tracks of any playlist unless you manually scroll all the way to the end each time to force it to load the rest.

Sometimes people will respond to anarchism by asking “how would anarchists stop the strong or charismatic from taking over” and I look at the people who actually do rule our world and think “do we live on the same planet?”

Edit: I should have been so much clearer than I was. I mean that the people who rule us are neither strong nor charismatic, nor particularly smart or otherwise capable at all. Elon Musk? Seriously? We’re not in the situation we’re in because we’re ruled by strong, charismatic people.
