good news and bad news today!

good news: my UPS setup got properly tested, verifying that network (and internet) and server remained up AND I got instant matrix and e-mail notifications of power going down and back up.

now for the bad news: just had to order a new iron (power outage root cause)

One of my Sonoff ZigBee switches stopped working, but I found it was still on the mesh under a new address: "Device":"0x0570","IEEEAddr":"0x0000000000000000" 😳

Not sure what happened there but that's not what I want to see

When I set the device to pair mode the bridge rebooted, and the switch showed up again with its old (long) address

So maybe this was the bridge acting up

Finally bit the bullet and ordered the NiSi Close up lens for my Sony RX10, should arrive tomorrow.

Also ordered some TPU filament to experiment with, and a lot more stuff I had listed to order at some point.

In fact I think I overdid it a bit as together with previous orders I'm now tracking a bit over 25 parcels 😳

bit of a learning curve, this lens, certainly mounted on the Sony RX10

zoom too much and your DOF is expressed in mm 😳 so it s all about finding the balance

A long thin cardboard tube
Several cuts (a bit over halfway) in the cardboard tube, spaced 1cm apart.
Inserted spacers and hot melt glue in the cuts to create a bend in the cardboard tube

The result is better than I had hoped

Bent white cardboard tube has tape strips and is being sprayed with red paint
A huge white and red drinking straw
Final cleanups with white paint, to fix the spots where red paint should not have come

I wonder who thought this was a usable, inclusive web design.
Even with relatively good eyesight I can't read yellow on bright green - and that's when I can try to read it because the annoying automatic popups hoover over the content all the time.

Tonight she also told a fun thing:

The 'Royal' in the school name means the queen sometimes pops in to visit, with a 1 hour advance notice.
When the notice arrives a whole plan comes into action to clean and tidy the building 😂

That didn't happen yet this year but for some odd reason it got mentioned this week so maybe somebody has a more advance notice? 👑
