I'll be entirely transparent with you.. when i say i "had money" i was not financially stable. i was the sole earner for two disabled people. i made $82k per year, our rent is $1100, there wasn't a cent going into savings with our medical expenses. The typical income for someone of my skillset and experience is more like $140k. I'm not good at interviews, negotiation, or overall standing up for myself.

i was well enough off that i could be like "oh i can push this thing back and it'll be okay" when i saw a friend in trouble and help out. i could drive across town, help them with a thing, buy them food, whatever.

i was always ready to jump to help a friend.

the mental toll of not having an income has a long list of shit. the worries about how to pay for things, making sure we have food, all of it is rough. but the one that straight up makes me sad, instead of stressed or worried, is not being able to spring into action to help someone in need.

This time last year, we had just taken in a fellow trans who was about to be homeless and he lived with us as a secret roommate for the next eight months. We paid for all his groceries and he paid nothing. He saved up for and bought a car and is now on his feet in Colorado.
This time last year we gave a friend $1500 to get out of a predatory payday loan and he was like "ok uh what interest do you want, what schedule do i need to stick to," and i had to talk him down and reassure him to only pay back a grand total of $750, no interest, and i actually yelled at him to stop giving me money when his top surgery bills started rolling in

Now i can't fucking do that kind of thing. i can't help people in need. i'm the one who needs help, and i have people all around me who want to help in any way they can, but i don't know how to ask for it because everyone is suffering in mostly the same ways

If you have an opening for a software developer position, I have a decade of experience. Most of that is full stack, filling the roles of dev, qa, dba, sysadmin, whoever else, because the companies were 30-200 people and job titles are just averages really, with most of the work being php/js with frameworks laravel and angular respectively, with experience in variety of other languages and environments including Java and C# as well as hobbyist experience in rust.
I've used all sorts of tools and operating systems, you name it I've used either that or some similar thing, I'll pick up the basics in an afternoon. I've been both full stack and my own DBA this entire time, so I'll normalize your database and keep you safe from Bobby Tables. I've even done a lot of RPA work, I didn't expect to learn that. A decade of experience throws a wide variety of tools at you that you have to pick up fast. Whatever your company does, if I don't already know it by heart, I will.

@vantablack I'm a fan of these tablets that dissolve in water and make a tasty drink, they also help with the spiro bullshit. kinda pricey tho, we got them for my partner's chronic dehydration problems but I like them too

It always makes me really uncomfortable with someone when they feel the need to censor swear words, like type out the word but block out one of the letters, like they're trying to avoid doing something indecent?? You already typed the fuckin word, you're swearing, don't be fuckin dainty about it. There's no goddamn algorithm here, you're free, so the only hangup is your personal feelings around swearing and I don't want to be around you if you're gonna give that stifling energy
