Just heard from the NHS that the stool sample I sent them was peanut butter. This begs the question of what I sent to the home made peanut butter competition.

Still working on that email. I’ll run the latest draft by Best Beloved before I send it.

snaptophobic,
@snaptophobic@mastodon.me.uk avatar

It got sent.

I have a reply. It’s good. I am pleased.

Now to tie up loose ends.

Post office/convenience store to post a letter to Germany, buy a birthday card for my baby sister, and replace the giant granny purse I bought a few months ago with something a little more pocket sized.

Then, pharmacy to collect my first ever free prescription because I’m now officially old.

And a run round the Co-op to top up on things to eat and drink.

I call that an okay sort of morning.

It helps that all the points are in one small shopping centre.

A side benefit is the walking has helped my back. I should do it more often.

And after yesterday’s festivities, reality kicks the door open and shits on the carpet. Father in law has had another fall, so my wife has left to see what’s what. She’ll be back tomorrow, I guess. This is the pattern now.

@Hairydalek

Oh my. It is really no fun getting old.

When Best Beloved had his unscheduled sit-down and I called the ambulance service for help, we’ve since had lots of worried professionals round with lots of advice on how to avoid falls.

I hope that’s happening with your FiL.

Morning world. We might go for an adventure today. I might end up going on my own (which would be easier).

Today, in a break for the seemingly never ending avalanche of shit that we have to deal with here, my sister got married. So that was nice. I appear to have gained a brother in law.

(They’ve been together for 29 years, so it’s not like there’s some random person suddenly turning up).

Trying to draft one of those emails to a good client.

It’s not going well.

snaptophobic,
@snaptophobic@mastodon.me.uk avatar

I generally find a brain dump of everything I’m trying to say helps. I then walk away for a bit, before coming back and reading what I dumped. An edit here and there, perhaps another pause and review, and usually I end up with something worth sending.

Well?

I heard you have a blog. Yes. Yes, I do. Is it going well? I’ve got a couple of regular readers, had a few comments, acquired a few “subscribers”. To be quite honest, I’m not in it for the clicks and likes. So what happened? I thought you were going to post every week. I was. Life tends to get in the way…

Morning everyone. Not a particularly happy morning for me. Apart from feeling rubbish and oh so tired, I have this year's bullshit appraisal meeting at ten.

I used to get very anxious about these, but now they just annoy the hell out of me. It's meaningless; I have to pretend that I've developed professionally and plan to make significant career progress in the next twelve months, when there's no possibility for either (and I've spent all my time dealing with data problems).

At least the senior colleague who's doing the appraisal knows that this is the case.

I suppose, looking for a bright side, it's not actually Monday today.

Morning world. Well, it seems my back problem isn’t getting better by itself. I’m going to have to go and see a professional - again.

It took a decade to sort out last time. 😔

snaptophobic,
@snaptophobic@mastodon.me.uk avatar

@pthane

I take a vitamin D and something for blood pressure.

The back problems go back a long way, before I was on regular meds. I even have a blog post about it! It’s poor posture and doing something very silly a couple of decades ago.

Last summer I sent a cheque and order off for some bits and pieces. My letter outlined my order, prices and total including postage.

I heard nothing back, and assumed it was all lost in the post.

I decided to try again today. I discover there’s an actual order form on the web site to print out. How 20th century!

I shall assume this organisation is actually curmudgeonly enough to ignore orders not on official forms, and simply couldn’t be bothered to let me know. What a way to run a business!

snaptophobic,
@snaptophobic@mastodon.me.uk avatar

@gavin57

I think it’s more they haven’t dragged themselves into the 21st century. We expect online ordering and next day delivery. It’s somewhat refreshing to have to physically mail an order and have to wait a month for your delivery.

I’m okay with cheques, btw. 👵🏻

Halfway through a long weekend, and it’s hitting already. It’ll happen again about this time tomorrow.

Another job jobbed.

Some of us are old enough to remember when telephones were attached to the wall, and you had to run all kinds of extension cables if you wanted a phone in another room.

(I'm older than that and can remember when the phone provider made you pay extra for an extension!)

I’ve just removed the worst of the extensions, which mostly had been unused for the past decade or so.

Of course, it’s left lots of little pin holes in woodwork. As the whole house literally needs gutting and redecorating, I’m not worried. They can be dealt with another time.

snaptophobic,
@snaptophobic@mastodon.me.uk avatar

@Workshopshed

I guess that applies here, too. A whole new cable was installed a few weeks ago, so the old twisted pair is completely dead from both ends!

Morning world. Crap kippage last night. I had rather overindulged for dinner, and my back decided to add to the misery.

A quiet day of pottering, then.

I guess it’s been 20 years since that Ethernet cable was left dangling from the broadband router. It’s now sort of neatly pinned around door frames and skirting, and no longer a trip hazard.*

(* It was in an area of little traffic, but still.)

snaptophobic,
@snaptophobic@mastodon.me.uk avatar

The old cable TV co-ax is now extracted, too. One day, I suspect I’ll need to get someone to redecorate and make good the minor damage, but for now I’m content there are no more dead cables annoying me.

Best Beloved is a radio ham. One day, I’m going to have to deal with his shack…

snaptophobic,
@snaptophobic@mastodon.me.uk avatar

@pthane

The WiFi reaches the shed, but I do prefer a wired connection. The small bedroom/Best Beloved's shack is a shared office space, and was networked before we got wifi installed anywhere.
