I’m not in the US. My local library is tiny and their home improvement section is geared toward housewives.

I mean, sure. I’m not asking how to become an expert in every appliance. I’d like to learn how to do general troubleshooting. How to understand how and where to measure voltage, how to figure out which part is faulty, how to find a proper replacement, etc.

I had a coworker who watched some idiotic video where someone showed “proof” that microwaved water kills plants. I never saw that video so I imagined they poured the boiling water onto the plants. He was adamant that it was true. “I know what I saw”, blabla.

Most of the world does not have English as a first language and thus the meaning of the word “gimp” is not widely known. Personally I do agree that the name is dumb, but it’s a very English as a first language issue. My daughter is learning to do basic stuff with GIMP in school because it’s free. The name is not an issue because nobody knows what a gimp is.
